I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already here, but I was just re-watching the official figure reveal video from the fan fest. I noticed that the Unmatched reveals of Cody (Series 1) and Sting (Series 2) had some strange set numbers on the packaging. . Cody is listed as being #08. Sting is listed as #16. Each set is made up of 6 figures, so does this means that the LJN & Luminaries figures that Unmatched will feature are going to act as either the rare or chase figures in the set? I'm also curious if this means that Unmatched series 1 will feature the same Cody but in regular AEW figure style inside the set of 6 and likewise for Sting in series 2, we could possibly get a non Luminaries Sting inside the base set of 6 figures. Apologies if this is boring for some, I really did find interesting though and I'm curious to see how it plays out. Thought I'd share.

I think Cody might just be to match the name lettering, because the LJN is definitely the regular figure, it’s on the boxes instead of a normal picture of Cody
Sting is more confusing tho. However these could just be mockups. The packaging changed a good bit between Chicago Toy Fair and Unrivaled 1-2 release

The set numbers changed If I recall, the chase/rares were originally a lettered variant of the original set number and then upon release they had their own number. This is probably what's happening here then.

I appreciate your vigilance but I really hope they’re just part of the series the LJN is a large reason I’m buying in and don’t want to look at ebay prices for $27749 for one

Can’t get my head Around why they are luminaries it’s not like they are legends style they are current day legends not flashback I gather it’s about the person who the figure is for, not when the attire is from. Sting is a legend whether the look is from yesterday or 20 years ago. I think it’s just a way to acknowledge greats from the business, IMO this is the spot to see guys like Taz and Tully in future sets.

Can’t get my head Around why they are luminaries it’s not like they are legends style they are current day legends not flashback We have only seen one Luminaries figure so we don't know for sure whether all are modern-day versions of past-era wrestlers (like this Sting) or if some will be older wrestlers from their prime (like if they did a '90s Sting). But with that said... it does seem strange to me too, to brand this Sting figure as Luminaries when it's based on modern-day active roster Sting.

Each wave will have 6 mainline figures, 1 chase and 1 rare just like the unriveled line. Making 8 figures in wave 1 and 8 in wave 2 for a total of 16.

They should change the gold section on the top of the LJN boxes to red, it might be less of an eyesore if it was all blue and red

Right, but the reason they brought it up is because the chase and rare figures have been the 7th and 8th figures of each wave.

Can’t get my head Around why they are luminaries it’s not like they are legends style they are current day legends not flashback I simply think that is to differentiate themselves from WWE. WWE/Mattel has the Legends line at Target, and they do not want to use the same word. In short, I am expecting Luminaries to be like in the Mattel Elite line with an occasional Flashback in it. Plus, with Sting, I am sure the only look they can really do is how he appears on the show. All the other likeness rights are most likely tied up with WWE/Mattel. Same for some of the others (Jake the Snake). Now, to get past this, AEW can have some sort of "Throwback night" on the show, and anyone that falls in this category could appear dressed as they did in the past. For instance, if Sting came out in the black and white makeup looking much more minimal, like when he first started the Crow gimmick, (and coincidentally looking just like the Legends Figure Mattel had to pull) then they would be free to make that likeness based on that appearance. Could be a way to sneak some old school looks into the line if they are currently not able to use those.

We’ve had this thread over and over again, WWE don’t own Sting’s likeness, they can make all the Surfer Stings they want

Stupid question: what is luminaries? Legends/flashbacks Right, that’s what it means, but in Jeremy’s warped secondary market value mind is it going to be used as a super limited sub-line within the main lines that nobody is going to find? Or is Sting going to be in every case?

Yeah I know that, but what I'm getting at is that the LJN style Cody and the Luminaries Sting have both been given set numbers (visible bottom left) that resemble the set numbers a Rare/Chase figure would have even though they were both revealed as being part of the series of 6. So my query is does this mean that all of the LJN/Luminaries are going to replace the Rare/Chase figures in Unmatched and what does this mean for the remaining slots that Cody & Sting would've taken if they were in the set from #01 - #06. Will they be standard AEW style figures? another LJN/Luminaries figure?? If they'd both have set numbers that were from 1-6 I wouldn't be questioning it. Also regarding the Chase/Rares in Unmatched, I've seen a few people mention that Brian Myers said he believes they're going to be available to purchase on Ringside Collectibles like Mattel's Elite variants are. Let's just hope they're not stupidly priced if true.
