We all know Hall exaggerates like crazy, but if this is even close -- it's pretty impressive. And also makes you wonder why more guys don't sign Legend deals unless they're with AEW...

It's probably because WWE doesn't offer them to very many people.

Hall probably got his share back of merch equity of NWO from Nash.

Hall was my favorite as a kid and all these years later he still is. So happy for him that he's doing so much better.
I don't think Legends deals pay the kind of money he's talking about. I think he's talking specifically about merch since apparently all 3 of those guys make money off all the nwo merch.
And yeah it sounds like Nash sold Hall his share back. 2 sweet.

Yes -- but I assume Merch royalties are part of his Legends deal...

Could be, but I think the nwo merch deal they have goes back to wcw. There's a really old interview where Nash talks about it a bit. That may have changed though, who knows.

Yeah but who will that benefit really? Austin, NWO, DX kinda talent. Even guys like Sid and SGT Slaughter aren't going to see those kinds of t shirt sales. So lower key guys really won't benefit as much as Hall is.

I just watched a video of Greg Valentine proclaiming what he and Beefcake made in royalties in the mid 80’s. He alluded to the LJN figures and the money was awesome for that time. Still getting paid because of the Mattel figure. Not sure why anyone would turn down a Legends deal after listening to him.

Back years ago I heard Scott Steiner said it wasn’t worth using the legends contract to “wipe his a**” that it’s $10,000. But I’m assuming thats $10,000 + royalties so I’m sure it can get pretty lucrative depending on how much merch they produce for you and obviously what gets sold. I don’t know the limitations it comes with but we’re still getting figures of guys who are on AEW television so idk

Some people don’t want WWE making any merch profit off their likeness and some don’t want to be contracted with a Legends deal that might interfere with other projects or potential money. Like Angle.
Also WWE isn’t going to sign anyone they are on bad terms with or who they probably feel like won’t draw enough money to be worth it.
I’m also willing to bet some don’t give two sh**s if they have toys made of them or not.

I think for some guys it’s just harder to fully merchandise them like the top tier guys. I’ll use Hercules for an example. A figure would be great and I’d buy instantly. Outside that and maybe a t-shirt what else are they going to produce of Hercules that’s going to be a money maker?

Yep. 120,000 for a LJN figure is way more than I thought he would of made from figures unless he is exaggerating.

For wrestlers like this they need to make just a simple contract and not put them under a full Legends deal. Offer Hercules a contract that is only for a Mattel action figure and nothing else. Don’t tie him down with other stipulations like not being able to sign autographs at wrestlecon ...Ect. A simple contract! We will pay you $2500 cash and .50 per figure sold. That’s simple!

OOOOF.
I'd heard the $10k figure tossed around a lot, but I never knew it was fashioned as an advance. That's a whole other ballgame, and having heard how paltry the royalties can be in those contracts (and seeing Graham's up above there), I can't blame anyone for leaving a Legends contract on the table. That's doodoo unless you're really hurting for cash.

That's doodoo unless you're really hurting for cash. Yeah, it's a 10k advance with royalties paid against that advance. In exchange, talent sign away global licensing rights for a set percentage of merch and licensed properties and a pre-set appearance fee for Axxess, etc. From the contacts I've read I think the rate for action figures is 25% of WWE's cut of the profits. At face value, that sounds pretty good. But WWE's cut on an Elite is probably around $2-3. So you're talking about talent making $.50-.75 per figure, perhaps a bit more. It makes a lot of sense for some talent. Big names who move a bunch of merch can definitely make 6 figures as Hall claims. For an estate who doesn't have any other way to monetize their career, it's a great source of passive income. But a lot of wrestlers can probably make the same money or more selling at shows, their own website, and avenues like PWT that allow them to keep a much higher % of the profit.

Because WWE doesn’t care about niche figures that much. They aren’t going to make a Mattel figure exclusive Legends deals. Also Hercules is dead so they’d be offering it to his estate. Less incentive for them to make it happen.

The next time Mattel’s contract with WWE comes up they should push WWE to do this.
