What drew me into start collecting WWE figures was the idea of building a Women's collection around Becky Lynch starting from Elite 72 around the time of Wrestlemania 35. The idea of them releasing a new women's figure in every elite series appealed to me. So anyway I was watching some Smackdowns leading up to the Royal Rumble 2019 and I can't help but think that they missed the boat on the Women's figure roster from this time. Now that they have gone past this timeline, it's somewhat dissapointing the decisions and the toys that they did and didn't release. It feels incomplete, they didn't release one babyface Asuka toy from this time, yes they released Naomi but it was her Wrestlemania 33 2017 look. They didn't release a Bayley/Sasha Banks two pack from their historic Elimination Chamber win. What are your opinions of the Women's figures that they made from this timeline?

Outside of a select few, Womens figures arent strong sellers and have to be carefully packaged. Even though I despise them the best and most logistical way to release women is in the basic lines. Not to mention they've screwed up scaling on the figures so bad, even once they started with the new scale that its just a cluster

I feel like they are doing a decent job with the women. They have at least one women’s figure in each set now, some with even more than that.

I can only think of a few that should have been made that weren't like the Kabuki Warriors but even those weren't that big of a deal considering Kari had a figure not that long before. Maybe a Sarah Logan to finish the Riot Squad in elite form. They should make an elite Dana Brooke and especially a Tamina within the next year or I'd say that was missing out.

I feel like they skip important attires all the time, in the men and women figures. We never got Thanos Rollins, we never got Io Shirai before she turned heel, a Naomi past 2017, pre-heel Candice, etc

I hadn't thought about it, but probably a fair point. It's a tough balance to strike. Female Elites don't do well, but also tend to have pretty intricate deco that can't work as a basic.
But Sasha/Bayley from their tag run is a pretty big omission. And it's generally ridiculous that they have only released the women's tag belt once, with half of a team. But that's a pretty fair parallel for how WWE has treated that "division" in general.

I'm not sure if it's the same time line because I don't really watch current wrestling but my brother sent me a picture of an attire that Mickie James wore at a PPV and I really would have liked it as an elite. It was mainly black with red hearts. But I would have bought any Mickie James that they released, current or flashback.

I'm just happy Mattel managed to make Chyna since that was my major want in the Classic Superstars line that never happened. I'm not sure on the scaling issues since I only have Chyna, Trish Status and Lita.

I collect primarily womens figures so I'm always on board for more of them.
That said, womens figures have a history of not doing well. I mean, that's what I've been told, anyway. I've never seen it in my walmart but if you look on RSC, womens figures often have to drop well below retail before they sell out. Look at the Io Shirai elite. One of the best women's figures in some time and she's rotting SO HARD on RSC. Both Naomi Elites are lingering as well and Becky Lynch is still on there from Elite 72!
I wish it wasn't so but they have to limit the womens figures they make. As it is, there's usually one per basic and one per elite line now. Do I think there are more women who could have and still could be made? Absolutely. Tamina is the longest tenured superstar without an Elite and I will forever cry over not getting the Kabuki Warriors. Also, 2020 Royal Rumble Naomi is one of my biggest wants. Plus, never getting the Marlena figure stings and Maria Kanellis leaving the company without a Mattel figure to match Mike makes me really mad. There are a bunch of figures that have been missed, yes.
But I really think they are pushing them as hard as they can right now.

I think it's a tough thing to balance. There is just less interest in women's wrestling and therefore less interest in women's figures. I'm not saying no interest, just less. If there was more interest, the WWE would have figured out a way to make Evolution an annual PPV.
Unfortunately, this means there's less of a market and when things don't work out it makes it harder to produce women's figures. Having so many women's figures being exclusives really makes them hard to collect. I didn't buy the last Mandy Rose Elite because there was never a chance to find a Sonya Deville. As an Australian the IIconics would be great to own but I never saw either on a shelf. I wish they made more women's figures but with so few available, it's hard to make the effort.

To make it work they needed to release all the major players from that time at least. They needed to release an Asuka elite definitely. I don't know why they didn't. They have so many series every year even aside from their mainline, that there is no excuse to not have all the key players of the current roster. For all the number of toys they release every year, there feels like they have wholes in the current roster collection where as the Hasbro's had less toys but they were from a set time and so the collection felt alot more complete, and less people missing from it.

You're not gonna get every look. You're not gonna get the looks from every big event or all your favorite looks.
You're gonna get enough to not have glaring holes most of the time. Asuka has 3 elites with a 4th on the way. Naomi had the chase elite recently and has had like 4 basics. Outside of Charlotte, becky, bayley, sasha, alexa...and maybe bianca or rhea if they REALLY get behind them...you aren't gonna get many figures of the rest of them. But how often do we really need a new Nattie or Nia?
I think they do great, outside of not quite nailing down some of the scans

I think their womens figures are great. The Io Shirai figure was great.

Did we ever get Mania 35 Ronda? We didn’t right?
We also never got Mania 22 Mickie. Which to me is insane. The best women’s angle in WWE history. Mickie was back for like four years and we got one figure of her and it was based on her very first match back.
It took us ten years to get an iconic Triple H. You essentially have to be a lifer to get the iconic attires. Even then, we still don’t have late 97/early 98 Taker. Or Mania X7 Edge. So it’s not really a surprise Mattel has skipped must have attires on the women, who get less places in the line from the onset.
Look at the recent fan Takeover or Ultimate votes. Forget the winners, they’ve been awful by the way, but look at the actual options. When we still don’t have stuff like a Python Power or Hulk Still Rules Hogan, I think there is a major disconnect between WWE history and MDT priorities, unfortunately.

I'd agree that every big or popular attire for anyone would be impossible but I'd be happy with minimum of one figure per person per era or drastic look change/gimmick. For example we got Riot Squad and return black Liv so if they release one figure in her current look I think that's good.

I sort of agree but there seems to be far more basic compared to elite. The basic figures from about 4 years ago (first time ever Alexa Bliss, first time Natalya) were actually pretty impressive for basic. They were well articulated. The Stephanie McMahon and Renee Young figures weren't bad.
I think the MOST IMPRESSIVE woman elite figure ever was the Nia Jax with different head molds. The body was well made and was just very realistic and well done. The Rhonda Rousey elite with black pants couldn't even stand properly for me.

I’d rather different characters than different attires but I know not everyone would agree.

Speaking of Triple H, it still blows my mind that we STILL never have gotten a Lemmy beard HHH with the black and silver trunks. That’s one of his most iconic looks, and we never got it in any form. And again, because you mentioned WMX7 Edge, it reminds me that we never got any flashback Dudley Boyz, nor did we get a Team Xtreme era Matt Hardy. We just recently got a Team Xtreme Jeff in the two pack, but that’s it. Hulk Still Rules Hogan is another big want of mine. In regards to women’s figures, I only really want Asuka’s TLC 2018 attire (which we probably won’t ever get, sadly), or some kind of Elite pack based off Sasha and Bianca’s Mania match.
