Official Ultimate Edition New Gen Arena Megathread

Was anyone really asking for a new ring? Honestly. We all have 2-3 that we have no room to display as it is. I still think the entrance and the 2 figures at $120-130 would’ve been a better approach.

Honestly, I think just an Ultimate Edition multi-pack would’ve been a better move for their first attempt.

… but that might just be me not caring about another ring that’ll go into a bin. Haha

The ring is probably ruining this. The stage alone could’ve sold at a lower price point. The ring is something many of us have no room or use for due to the many scale rings that have already been made over the year.

First and foremost, I’m not sure if I’m backing this thing. Financially, my wife and I are finally going on our thrice COVID-delayed honeymoon at the end of the month, then moving into a new place, so money is a bit tight. Beyond that, I’ve never been one to display a ring and honestly even with the new place I don’t know if I’ll the space to dedicate to something that large. That being said, there’s one thing about the discourse here I’m not getting:

So I’m probably going to get lambasted here as a Mattel schill, (which is ironic, since as I said I haven’t backed yet and am not sure if I will be able to) but I feel like the price is pretty fair for what’s being offered when looking at retail prices.

Comparable real scale rings go for $100, so I’m using that as a starting point. Considering this ring has more detail with the structure/boards/etc. I would think it would retail by itself for at least $120.

Regular Ultimates retail for $30.

Then the biggie. I’m not sure where people are pulling some prices from in their heads, but a nearly foot tall (judging by photos with Diesel in them) full LED in-scale stage would be retailing for at least $75, honestly maybe closer to $100.

That comes out to between $225 and $250 depending on whether ones goes with the higher or lower end. If it hits the Doink tier, it’s even arguably a value IF one is interested in everything.

All that being said, I do think Mattel made a mistake here: $250 is a crazy large amount, even if it is “fair” for what’s being offered.

Judging by reactions both here and other places, I think they would have been better off doing the LED stage and Diesel with no ring for $150 (with the Doink tier and then the ring skirt tier replaced with something like a commentary table maybe, or guardrails). Speaking for myself, I would have been able to justify backing that to myself much more easily.

I would like to have it, but I can’t and won’t spend $250 on it. Especially what if it only hits 5k and doesn’t hit the next marker? Then it’s $250 for a figure, ring, and entrance thing that’s worth more like $150.

I backed it yesterday , but seeing 24 hours later only 755 backers makes me nervous .

Anyone else think it’s crazy that it needs $1,250,000 in preorders to go into production?

I do not think it’s going to make it. And I’m speaking as someone who is not backing it because it’s not something I want. There have been 3/4 Diesel elites, this might be the blandest one of them even if it’s an Ultimate. The Doink has two although this will have the best accessories.

The stage is a great concept, and I would love a Nitro version of one with LED and music. That should be something they look into doing. The ring is killing it. I have two rings, one AEW basic and the AEW full scale. The Basic sits on a shelf with figures in it, it’s just the right size to display and is an awesome ring. The full scale sits semi assembled in its box because it’s huge and only comes out to play with my kids.

Also why put wood slats underneath? Like someone said that’s like putting a detailed brain in the head of an elite, really no point. Wasted budget on that item.

This will be lucky to get to 5000, I can almost assure you that it won’t hit the first tier much less the second one.

I have to echo what others have said. I already have the Authentic Scale Ring that has the blue cage that I'm currently still trying to figure out how/where to display now that I've finally moved in to a permanent house. I really want the entrance stage, but a custom one can be had for like $50. Sure it doesn't light up and isn't the best scale but it's good enough. Had Mattel just done the entrance and the Diesel for even as high as $150, I would have jumped on right away. At this point the only way I'll get this is if I can sale my ASR to get a down payment to back this.

I really want to back this, because that Doink is THE Doink that was on my mind when the first Elite Doink came out.
