Best thing mattel could do now is change the stretch goals. Give Doink and the skirts to everyone at 5k. I think that could be the difference between this being successful or failing Yeah, as it is now, they might scrape 5k, but no way they'll get 7 or 8. I'd go in if we were getting everything at 5k.

Without argument can anyone explain the substantial difference of being charged now or later? If the charge now conflicts with bills etc. how will it not affect those things when they charge it at the end? I have the fund either way but still plan on waiting until the end to order it So, I can't speak for others, but I'll use my own example: the difference for me is this: While I can afford to make a purchase at this level, it benefits me greatly to have some lead time to put funds aside from two checks as opposed to one chunk, especially since my wife and I are going on our thrice-postponed honeymoon at the end of this month. When the funds were being removed right away, I was going to be forced to wait until near the end of the deadline to back it. This way I can back it now, and just make sure the appropriate funds are available when necessary. Granted, this is obviously a very specific example to me, but I would think the base of putting the funds together slowly is probably common.

Good move by Mattel here. I said why not even extend it a few more weeks? They could announce they close this on Aug 22nd but we won' take payment until September. Give people 6 weeks to save the money.

But commiting up front can give folks a couple of paychecks worth of time to plan or budget. Plus the initial release came at a time when many of us had dropped a lot on SDCC releases and pre orders. It's as much psychological as anything

I have the fund either way but still plan on waiting until the end to order it Because now if it’s not successful then no money actually exchanges hands. And for people outside the US, it means that firstly they aren’t charged a currency conversion fee for an item they won’t receive and secondly they won’t lose money on the currency fluctuating day by day. On a 250 item, you could easily lose 10-15 for nothing.

Plenty has been said about this now but rather than trying to re-invent the wheel…in terms of what is realistic, with the mostly confident knowledge we have about talent Mattel actually could utilise (and they would need to be New Gen I’d say to make sense, roughly 93-97ish?) what would make people currently unsure or unwilling to invest, take the plunge?
For me, I think if the Diesel is sharpened up to have silver and black attire with elbow pad and wrist tape that’s an improvement easily made at this stage. On top of that, if they brought the Doink and the Skirts etc into the 5K and added in an ultimate edition of any of the following:
Bret - ideally Hart Foundation Jacket included for those who missed the DM or Wrestlemania 9 all pink Mr Perfect (surely an ultimate needed and some great facials/crazy hair for alternate heads)
Or Elites of any of these:
Gorilla Monsoon (another distribution challenge in the past and expensive on the Bay) Vince McMahon with the jacket Headshrinker Fatu Kama & D’lo NOD Re-release improved red pants black belt Yoko or a fresh white pants with red belt
The package at the moment just feels like it’s a bit short for $250 and it’s not getting to 8k.
How much do Mattel want this to work? Rather than both sides being stubborn let’s meet in the middle. There’s time to rescue this if Mattel add in some extras like the above and I think if they make it 5k minimum for doink, skirts and a couple of the figures above, they would actually exceed the 5k without needing to ask people to reach 8k, they might get there or past it anyway.
The change to payment is nice but the idea of getting locked in at 5k level set as it is with just Diesel is stopping me and many others from backing. Come on Mattel, some of the above figures are easily doable, there’s plenty of time for production, let’s add some extra figures and get this done.

Without a price increase, I would think Mattel would end up losing money even if if it was funded if they added another figure and messed with the tiers like that.

I backed it before I was planning to because of the announcement. I was always going to get one, but it felt right to just get it over with and commit now versus waiting 'til the last minute. If the tiers could ever be adjusted, that would be beyond great. I'm not expecting that to happen, but even this little change of direction gives me hope that it will make it to 5k. Even if that's all we'll get from it, I'd be happy just to own the entrance and Diesel, and maybe I'll make room for the ring someday.

A thing they don’t advertise on the site itself, but did say in the video is that the first tier would go into production as soon as the project hit 5k. So if they hit that number on day one, they would have started production. That’s probably why they were taking the money up front. What they should have done instead is wait to take the funds until it hit 5k. Then, at least, people would have felt better about the money coming out sooner.
The lack of communication clearly being an issue with this campaign from the start.

They have added 91 backers since changing the payment terms. They went from 911 to 1002.

Where do you see how many backers so far? When you go to the mattel creations site, the item is the first thing you see, click on the "Back Now" button and the page will open up with how many people have backed it so far. You also see the details and what you get at the other levels. You don't have to log in or back the project to see this information page.
