I might be missing something here... but how come people are going so crazy for Doink? If he was released as a standard UE, I doubt they'd be that much interest (...they'd probably be complaints that it's a waste of an Ultimate figure). 🤷‍♂️ I think it’s because it’s the heel Doink. A lot of people, myself included, liked that Doink best.

Glad I’m not the only one who’s really wanting Doink here. 🤡
But I do like the light up entrance and the boards for the ring for the more authentic feel.

we're over 1/5 to the minimum goal with over 20 days left. i feel like doink is possible It’s gonna take some business backing 1000 of these but I hope we get there. This. A couple online retailers are gonna have to take the chance for this thing to reach Doink levels. With the change in charging methods, they might reach 5,000 now. They got well over 100 backers last night after announcing that, and it’s grown today. We’ll see. This is a lofty goal.

I'd rather have them lower or drop the tiers than extending the time.

I'd rather they switch the Doink and Diesel. I want the Doink way more than Diesel.

I think you might underestimate how popular Evil Doink was. He was one of my personal favorites and it's a shame Matt Bourne was fired so quickly that we never got to see where the character could have went. It's also a great looking figure and despite him having two elites this one is the full package with extra heads and coat. This guy gets it. People say doink and most think his feud with Bam Bam and the survivor series where we had the 4 doinks none of which were doink and the survivor series v lawler with dink stink wink and pink When I think doink i think the clown who even watching back now you know is genuinely a little unhinged and while bourne was a great wrestler he was by a lot of accounts a somewhat nasty, cynical guy who played nasty tricks on people and that’s what made heel doink so good, he was an extension of matts real life persona

Oof. This didn’t move the needle very much. That’s incredibly disheartening.

1,040 in a week. If it keeps on that pace, it'll fall short by like 800+.

Oof. This didn’t move the needle very much. That’s incredibly disheartening. Optimistically it jumped a lot more the past 24 hours than it did the few days before it. I still think mattel needs to do more, it’s their blunder. They should just announce that Doink and the skirts will be included no matter what, and consider saying that it’ll move ahead whether 5000 are backed or not. If people know they’ll get everything in the package and that it’s a guarantee they’ll get it then it’ll pass 5000 anyway.

I realise. But part of running a company is also admitting your mistakes and looking after your customers. They can still order the 5000 and reappropriate them or sell them on their store at a later date.

I think if it doesn't make it to Doink the people who backed it should have the option to pay a little extra to get him as a thank you for backing the project. The best case scenario is they drop or lower the tiers and include everything.

I feel like one big problem is that this is marketed at a group of people who don't generally play with their figures.
This is definitely cool conceptually and something I would've begged my mom to pay 250 dollars for when I was a kid running a fig ged. But, at this point, I'm an old dude who buys characters he likes and puts them on rows on a shelf. I think that's largely true for others who'd have the funds and nostalgic connection to this particular item. It's just not something that has utility for them, and since it's an item rather than a character, their collections won't feel in any way incomplete without it.
The Sentinel and Galactus, in addition to having larger fanbases, worked because they are characters. They further complete any display someone might be assembling. Obviously, this has Doink and Diesel, but both have been released in slightly different versions and neither have the fan following necessary to compel such an extravagant purchase.

I didn't get either of the two previous releases, but this version I want. The Doink figure is my favorite part of the entire lot. I'm not a big ring guy, so that and the ring aprons don't matter that much to me. The entrance is nice though.

I have a ring, but I can't remember the last time I even played with my figures in that way. I just display them in rows now a days.

Yeah, these are one-of-a-kind items that will never be released in stores. They have released other Sentinels and Galactus figures but they are no where near this size which is how they looked in the comics. Not really sure if there is anything that Mattel can make that will compare with these. Even if you do the smackdown fist entrance, people will complain that it is too much, or that they need the ring, guard rails, rings steps, entrance ramp, etc. The only thing that could really compare to the Sentinel or Galactus figures that Hasbro released would be if Mattel made a 2.5 foot tall figure of one of the wrestlers, like Steve Austin, or The Rock, Hulk Hogan, or Andre the Giant. But I'm not sure how many collectors would want that. And, like you said, the Galactus and Sentinel figures completed peoples displays/collection.

Without a price increase, I would think Mattel would end up losing money even if if it was funded if they added another figure and messed with the tiers like that. I just don’t believe that. Obviously they’re not a charity but I still think the margin on this thing will be crazy, whatever they say. There’s plenty room to add in some existing talent available with a couple of new headsculpts and deco updates and still make very good money. Even the major pod who were trying to convince people to buy basically talked themselves out of it as it’s not a $250 item even with Doink and the skirts. They could even look at going the other way and adding in more for an extra $30/50 and be more successful (I think that would be greedy personally) but for me, it’s not that $250 is a lot of money…it’s a lot of money for what they’re offering. It’s about Value. Give us value and more people will buy. If they put something up that was $400 but it was stacked with awesome stuff and value for money, I’d back that. This isn’t value, people argue to suggest we don’t know about production, I know a little and I can’t see how they can justify $250 for the plastic bits we’ve been offered so far. Again, I don’t take major pod for gospel at all but when they’re trying to justify it and can’t, that tells you a lot. They definitely do know a bit about production costs. I think you listened to a different MajorPod than I did, because frankly the only one of them who dissented a bit was Mark. Brian and Matt basically were in the “we understand people’s issues, but it should still be backed” camp. As for value, I really don’t think that’s the issue. At retail by themselves, that ring goes for between $100 and $120, Diesel is $30-$35, and the entrance stage would be between $90 and $100. Even if you take the low-end prices (which they wouldn’t sell for) that’s about $220-$230. The bigger issue is that not enough people display/buy rings to justify buying one that size. That’s a big factor in my decision-making.

This is an interesting point. I think on here we’re very quick to post our fantasies of entrance stages and full arenas and so on and swear we’d buy them, but when it comes down to it, that’s a lot of money and a lot of space. And outside of the few who commit to picture feds and figure feds (or people who have a ton of space), many of us just don’t have the need for that sort of thing. I know that between Jakks and Mattel, I’ve bought probably half a dozen or so rings/playsets that I’ve never or barely ever used.
