I see people explaining their Doink love and I still think Doink is a lame pick. I admit I didn’t watch the New Gen as a kid, but that’s why I don’t have the nostalgia goggles on. Evil Doink was a fine idea, but evil clown is not a gimmick that’s going to sell a lot of tickets. That is a mid-card gimmick. Why? Because it’s a clown and clowns are lame, evil or not. I’ve seen his stuff over the years and it was interesting, but it’s still a clown gimmick. There’s nothing that screams “That’s so cool!” about Ultimate Doink if you’re not a big Doink fan.
Doink elites were released twice and they were not flying off the shelves. I could easily find both Doinks at retail for months. This campaign is for a niche audience with a high goal for a figure woth an even smaller audience. When I think New Gen, I think the Kliq and I think wrestlecrap gimmicks. Razor, HBK, Bret, 123 Kid, Luger probably would’ve been more interesting. The only people that care about Ultimate Doink are people that are big Doink fans. An Ultimate Doink would rot on shelves.
I like everything else about the campaign (would’ve gone with a better Diesel attire), except for Doink. He does nothing for me and I know I’m not alone because New Gen didn’t do great business at the time.

I just don’t believe that. Obviously they’re not a charity but I still think the margin on this thing will be crazy, whatever they say. There’s plenty room to add in some existing talent available with a couple of new headsculpts and deco updates and still make very good money. Even the major pod who were trying to convince people to buy basically talked themselves out of it as it’s not a $250 item even with Doink and the skirts. They could even look at going the other way and adding in more for an extra $30/50 and be more successful (I think that would be greedy personally) but for me, it’s not that $250 is a lot of money…it’s a lot of money for what they’re offering. It’s about Value. Give us value and more people will buy. If they put something up that was $400 but it was stacked with awesome stuff and value for money, I’d back that. This isn’t value, people argue to suggest we don’t know about production, I know a little and I can’t see how they can justify $250 for the plastic bits we’ve been offered so far. Again, I don’t take major pod for gospel at all but when they’re trying to justify it and can’t, that tells you a lot. They definitely do know a bit about production costs. The bigger issue is that not enough people display/buy rings to justify buying one that size. That’s a big factor in my decision-making. Yep. Me as well. People who are trying to sway others to jump onboard by saying we won't get another crowd fundraiser if this isn't successful are sorta ignoring the fact that Bill already hinted the next planned campaign will also involve a ring...I don't have room for one ring, let alone two. This just isn't doing it for me. It's also worth mentioning, all the new features of this ring are only seen when you're building the ring. So for the everyday adult collector, how often are they taking apart and rebuilding their ring? I think they should have tried a 4-6 pack offering first for $100-150. Or even a Retro campaign. This was just too ambitious.

I feel like one big problem is that this is marketed at a group of people who don't generally play with their figures. This is definitely cool conceptually and something I would've begged my mom to pay 250 dollars for when I was a kid running a fig ged. But, at this point, I'm an old dude who buys characters he likes and puts them on rows on a shelf. I think that's largely true for others who'd have the funds and nostalgic connection to this particular item. It's just not something that has utility for them, and since it's an item rather than a character, their collections won't feel in any way incomplete without it. The Sentinel and Galactus, in addition to having larger fanbases, worked because they are characters. They further complete any display someone might be assembling. Obviously, this has Doink and Diesel, but both have been released in slightly different versions and neither have the fan following necessary to compel such an extravagant purchase. This is an interesting point. I think on here we’re very quick to post our fantasies of entrance stages and full arenas and so on and swear we’d buy them, but when it comes down to it, that’s a lot of money and a lot of space. And outside of the few who commit to picture feds and figure feds (or people who have a ton of space), many of us just don’t have the need for that sort of thing. I know that between Jakks and Mattel, I’ve bought probably half a dozen or so rings/playsets that I’ve never or barely ever used. I mentioned a few pages back space and I don’t think it’s something enough people have comments on. I have 1 shelf if figures, I have 3 kids, I don’t have room to display a stage and ring. A lot of people have discs issues either because of family, or a multitude of other reasons. Take the recent huge hasbro figure - it’s tall but could still be put on a shelf. This is large in width and depth. This is a cabinet piece not a shelf piece

So anyone else had an email from mattel creations informing you that they’ve actually taken the full amount up front? Considering they specifically said they would not take the payment on the page this is diabolical. Probably illegal?
Wording on the page has changed back to taking immediate payments too. They clearly don’t want this to be backed.

Yep and I backed it yesterday after it was changed. They’ve now seemingly changed BACK, and taken the money from those who backed yesterday.

No, most of everybody will charge you to make sure the funds are there and it will drop back off, just like target does, if you pre order from them , they’ll charge your card once a week until the item ships, but the charges always drops off.

And I also think it depends on what card you use as well. I use my Apple Card and Target is suppose to charge on pre orders then the orders drop. But when I use my Apple Card , I never remember the charges dropping after pre orders, so it may depend on the card you use.

They said yesterday they were going to start just using pending charges, and they changed the wording on the page to reflect that. Now today, they're back to doing full charges, and they've changed the wording back to the original text. Understand?

Ok, then just cancel the order and wait till the last day, it’s not getting funded anyway, so i wouldn’t worry about it.

They were not authorised to take the payment unless it was successfully backed. It’s not like they’re going to be paying the currency conversion charges for the international buyers they just baited and switched on.

Finally getting a bit of momentum and now this =/ What not offering another ring? Big deal you’d have this one already. Maybe they’d just offer/add new ring skirts and turnbuckles as a tier of the next one.
