Has anyone else here ever met a wrestler by pure happenstance? ….I have, here’s my story…..back in 2001 my first wife & I had tickets for a Kid Rock concert in a neighboring city …..when we arrived at our hotel we still had about 5 hours before concert time so we decided to take in the local mall ….as we were walking we were talking & not really paying attention to any one store, then we came upon a GNC, when I glanced over in that direction I did a double take & stopped dead in my tracks, it was Nikita Koloff at a table outside the store talking to one of the employees….we walked over & right up to him ….talked to him & got an autograph on a flier that he had with his pic on it, as I didn’t have anything with me for him to sign because I had no clue he was going to be there that day …..also this was in the days before everyone had smartphones with cameras built in so I had no way of taking a pic with him but it was still a cool meeting …..anyone else have something like this happen to them? ….If so who did you meet?

Since I grew up at the Jersey Shore, one holiday season (probably somewhere between 1996 and 1999) as a little kid I was shopping with my parents at a Christmas tree store (one of those like Treasure Island type places) and happened to be shopping at the same time as Bam Bam Bigelow and his family. Definitely one of those “What are the odds of that happening” type moments. Was one of the coolest most down to earth guys you’d ever meet. Getting to meet him was an absolute larger than life moment that ill never forget.

I remember my buddy and I were shopping at Walmart before a WWE show in 2006, and Matt Striker went walking past us. We didn't say anything to him because we were too shocked that he walked past us. But even so... it was Matt Striker, so meh. Still cool though.

I was on the boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey, with my mom back in July ‘03 and we saw Virgil signing autographs in the shade. Well, he would’ve been had anyone actually stopped at his table, so we sauntered over to where he was sitting and paid him $15 for a signed 8x10. Even then, at the age of 14, I knew that was too much lol. He was friendly, though. I think he asked which school I went to, and when I told him, he said that he had a nephew (pretty sure it was nephew) who went there, too. I figured he was probably working me because I’m from Maryland and honestly what are the chances of making that kind of connection, but it was a memorable moment, for sure. I think if I’d known in advance that he was going to be there, I probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to meet him. I can say that I got to see Lonely Virgil in action, though, so that’s one for the bucket list.

While waiting in line for a concert at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas (The Pretty Reckless if I recall correctly), Dean Ambrose walked past with a few friends. It was a small venue they were playing so I didn’t mind losing my spot in line. I approached him and said “excuse me”. He let out a bit of a huff while his friends laughed, so I immediately knew he was hoping not to be noticed. Still got a photo with him though. intellectually- disabled person me asked him what he was doing in Vegas, turns out he lives there.
While at an expo similar to Comic Con, I noticed Jake Roberts wandering around outside. He was one of the main attractions so obviously you had to pay to meet him. I asked him for a photo which he seemed happy enough to take.
Wouldn’t call this meeting one but rather almost. On the day of a house show, Sheamus, flanked by two massive bodyguards that made him look shorter than Adam Cole walked past me while I was chilling in the hotel lobby. Later that night I planned on hitting the hotel gym so I scoped it out before going to my room to grab my gear. Anywhozel, those same two guards along with another three equally sized guys were waiting outside the hotel gym so obviously some of the wrestlers were in there. I’ve used that gym before and know for a fact that it’s pretty small. As someone that hates exercising around others like your average person, let alone WWE wrestlers, I just thought ‘hell no’ and went to my room and ordered a burger instead.

I got into a fist fight with Greg Valentine back in 87' over some donuts. Turns out I had the last dozen but bigshot wrestler wanted to use his pull to get them. We put enough holes in each other that we resembled some Dunkin's
But for real, I was working the morning shift a few years ago and in walks Rey and RVD. They were touring with 5 Star Wrestling and popped in for breakfast on their travels. I got to make food for them, Rey is a greedy boy. Made my day.

At an all wrestling collectable store one time in NJ I met Kevin Sullivan.I walk in and there he is sitting watching some old school rasslin' on a tv set up by the counter drinking a coffee. To say it caught me off guard would be an understatement considering he wasnt advertised to be there.
Got to talk to em for a good 5 mins as nobody was in the store at the time. Helluva nice dude.

Never a wrestler. But after a Raw in Brooklyn 4-5 years ago or so we went to a bar down the street and Sal & Q from Impractical Jokers were in there. Made perfect sense since they're always at the Brooklyn shows.

Tito Santana got gas at the station I worked at. Only a few hundred feet from the hair salon he owns.
In 2005 on a flight from Florida to New Jersey, George Steele was sitting a few aisles behind me. I did a double take but didn't want to bother him.

The only 2 times I can recall I came across a wrestler outside of a wrestling event itself was when I saw Sean O’Haire back in 2002 at the Westchester Mall. He was sitting on a bench waiting for his girlfriend who was shopping and we asked him for tips (in regards to becoming wrestlers) and he said “don’t get into a relationship”. 😆
And then I saw Kevin Owens at Universal Studios with his family in the Simpsons area when he was still known as Kevin Steen. That was a few years back and I being much older didn’t want to bother him while he was with his family haha.
Edit: Forgot one. I saw Zack Ryder at Epcot walking into France lol. Again, I rarely approach them in public, I feel guilty about hassling them. When I approached Sean O’Haire I was with a friend and much much younger haha

I got to meet him backstage at a CZW show (I think CZW) in mid 2017. The backstage area was packed with young wrestlers, their friends and Shane Douglas and lastly Nikolai Volkoff, who brought me. Kevin is a super quiet guy despite his on screen personality but he worked that room like a politician. He talked to every person there. He treated every person in that room like they were a Hall of Fame legend. And everything he spoke about was not wrestling related either, it was normal every day stuff. I feel like he probably doesn't get recognized much unless it's a wrestling show, he is so quiet and unassuming but what a great guy he is. People probably talk to him every day and yet don't even know who he is. He's just a really nice, kindly older man who will talk "stuff" with you but you won't know he was a wrestler.

I saw Billy Jack Haynes at a grocery store in Portland a few years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

1. Sherri Martel - Airport the first time. Also saw her in Birmingham a few times since I lived there and she had family that lived in the area.
2. Greg Valentine & Bobby Eaton - Restaurant of some nature. My wife swears up and down that it was Full Moon, but that doesn't make sense because I hate BBQ. I think it was Outback or Chili's. It was in Fultondale for sure though. There was hardly anyone in the place at the time, it was like a weekday in the afternoon. I paid for there meal but I tried to do it anonymously, but the bartender gave me away.
3. Vince Russo - Not sure if this counts but he used to be a frequent shopper at the store I was a general manger at. I had several conversations with him because we both listen to vinyl, but I never brought up wrestling with him.

Mick Foley-saw him on the LIRR back in 2001. Talked to him a little when we got off the train.
Matt Striker-saw him in Long Beach back in 2007 I think. Did not talk to him.

That's such an awesome story on the sense of how unique it was. Heenan was right, it's Billy Jerk Haynes. Randomly passed Hulk Hogan at O'Hara Airport but didn't wanna be the one to bother him.

I did a double take but didn't want to bother him. I delivered to that salon one time while working out of my normal center. I was out of the Wayne Center, but the Morristown center was down drivers so I worked one of their routes one day. And one of the stops on the route was his salon. He gave me an “Areba!”

My good friend and former coworker avalanchefan84 met Gene Sntisky in the toy dept of the Walmart in Hazleton. Snitsky was looking for his RA figure. My friend helped him look for the figure. Sadly they didn't have his figure
