Only idiots boo Cody Those of us who don’t eat paint can correctly see him as the only “tweener” who isn’t a good or bad guy. why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?

I was perplexed at the boo’s, cody isnt forced, he puts tons of people over, he isnt in title pictures. I generally think what happened was people just prefer malakai more and even though he is the heel he is just to over and people would have turned on any babyface he was up against. I enjoy cody and like the face role. Aew doesnt need more cocky heels. Thats what the elite, pinnacle and inner circle are.

Personally, I don't like the yankee doodle schtick, but that's because I HATE the USA with every fibre of my being, which means whenever he comes out dressed like a full on seppo I feel a physical hatred. I’ve never actually seen someone use the word seppo…you britts are a kooky bunch.

He's boring in the ring. His stories don't seem to mesh with the other things that are going on. He sucks talent in and they get wasted the "cody verse". However, with that being said, he does a hell of a job at getting a reaction from us marks, so I think he is doing something right, lol.

I loved Cody but he has gotten almost "cringe"...I hate to use that phrase but I just don't know how else to explain how I feel about him. He's just tacky as hell.
I remember really loving Cody up until like right after his first few TNT title defenses. When he returned to face Brodie and he had the black suit and black dyed hair, it was eye rolling. I think it just snowballed from there. He has conveluted in-ring action that is a bit challenging to pick up on because its a little to nuanced; he gets his own entrance point; he cut that horrendous "I love America and it isn't racist because I have a half-black baby on the way" promo; and he just comes off as a disingenuous guy who isn't playing a character but truly sees himself as the top guy. Not to mention, there really is something mentally unhealthy to do with the fact that he got that Nightmare Family logo on his neck like that.
What killed me most recently was when he took off his boots after that first Malakai Black match. It made zero sense to me why they would do that angle. Who would buy for a second that Cody is retiring, or that that match was his send off? The fake tears, the worked shoot lines in the promo about "EVP in-fighting," it was all just...unappealing.
I'd say up to those Dynamites where he was wrestling Ricky Starks, Janela, Sonny Kiss, etc., he was probably my favorite wrestler in AEW. I LOVED his stuff with Dustin Rhodes, Darby Allin, Jericho, and MJF. Now I sort of just see him on television and get uninterested in whatever he is doing. There just seems to be something just a bit off with his stories and matches every time he's doing something new. Also, I've seen all of Rhodes to the Top so far and he comes off like such an arrogant, goofball tool in that show.
With that being said: I wouldn't personally boo him but I 100% understand why he is being boo'ed. He's almost just out of touch with what makes AEW really work; or he is just so disillusioned with his own status that he truly thinks all of this stuff is cool.

By then though, the WWE will have bought AEW with Vince McMahon coming out of his frozen chamber he was buried in to save his body just so he could come back from the dead one last time to say, "I bought AEW... I own my competition. Tonight, not only is WWE Raw airing on a special Wednesday night edition, but WWE will be airing on AEW Dynamite on TNT.... Turner Network Television. See, I got it right this time, Ha ha ha." Only for Triple H to say, "Uh, Vince.... AEW Dynamite has been on TBS for the past few years now." Then Vince can say, "Ahhhh dammit!" and then his body disintegrates.
And that will be the best ever angle for wrestling...... ever!!

My only reservation in regards to AEW was the announcement that all the top talent they had signed at the start would be VP’s. I expressed that at the time, that I thought that was a bad idea because you are now taking all the best galant you have, what you’re building the company around, and IMMEDIATELY subjecting every match they have to scrutiny. Every time they win, it’s gonna be, ugh they’re booking themselves to win.
Truth is, Cody SHOULD be winning, the Bucks SHOULD be winning etc. These are the guys AEW was building a company behind, these were their biggest stars and IMO, they took them off the table by making them VPs. I knew if they win too much it’s gonna be perceived that it’s because of what’s happening behind the curtain, not in the ring.
And I think AEW has navigated those waters very well, it was unnecessary IMO to even have to weather that storm though.
Which leads us to Cody being boo’d. They did the right thing with the Bucks & Omega by masking this and turning them heel. Now they can lean into all this and win all they want, it comes off as heat. Cody is still trying to be a babyface, but wrestling fans just see him winning against guys they feel he’s burying. In a way he’s looked at the same as a guy like HHH who he claimed to be against. Ironic
I do think fans are being too hard on Cody though, he’s a likable guy and a great wrestler & I don’t think we’d be enjoying the same AEW that we currently are without guys like him & specifically him had they not took a chance and left the comfort of the WWE nest. This guy was Stardust a few years ago & now he’s definitely one of the top stars in the industry. Give Cody s break but at the sim time, AEW didn’t do him any favors
I also think his wife accounts for 90% of the heat he’s getting lol.

He was definitely trying to put over talent, but the problem is that he really isnt a big enough name that a win over him would mean anything for most wrestlers. i disagree. he gave MJF the biggest win of his career, elevated brodie lee, and has now cleanly put malakai over big.

The issue is people have a problem with Cody winning AT ALL. He’s definitely one of the faces of the company, but he can’t win or he’s burying people? That doesn’t make sense, and I put all the blame on AEW because they should have never made the top guys VPs…I KNEW this would happen. The only way out is to remove him as a VP which seems like they realize that’s best, or turn him heel so he can just lean into all of it like the Bucks & Omega.

Cody has been great, and booked properly.

I haven’t had an issue at all with his booking, I feel they have actually gone out of their way TOO put over other people, all of the Elite have. IMO, the elite are the guys you want winning. They are the stars, especially in the beginning. The VP thing was a bad decision, I said it at the time and I feel like here we are living it out now. I feel like they took their top stars off the table doing that because now they have to put everybody else over in an effort to satisfy “the fans”. I’m a fan of Cody, I wish people would appreciate what he gave up and what he helped build in 2 years. It looks like a great decision now, but it was a tough choice not to take that guaranteed WWE contract. All those guys made a company and look at it now, life can exist outside the WWE Universe. They could have easily all been blackballed out of their careers for doing something like that, the only reason they won’t be now is because they were successful.

I like Cody, but I think the influx of talent in recent months has shown hes a good hand, solid upper midcarder, but not THE top guy a company builds around.
He tries too hard to be the “All American Hero” like his father, but it just doesn’t work for him, especially in today’s wrestling scene. His entrances and promos are overly long, and feuds like his with Anthony Ogogo are channel changers to a lot of fans (die hard s and casuals). Outside of the Shaq stuff earlier this year, I can’t say I’ve been that interested in his work.
Again, I’m a fan of his, but I can see why fans in general are turning on him and why a heel turn might be needed soon.
