Oh, and I'm still kicking it old school. REFURBISHED ATARI 7600 MOTHER ERS! LOL. I have a 2600 in a tote somewhere. Still worked last time I tried it. You sort of have to jury-rig it using a coax cable, but when I had it out before I loved playing Pole Position and Pitfall. Also had Donkey Kong and Pac Man but I was rubbish at both of those. It's really fun. My dad had it and my early gaming memories are of it from when I was like 3 or 4 in the early-mid 80s. I'm a big retro gamer. I have a Raspberry Pi built. I have Mame on every desktop and laptop. Every emulator. It's fun going back and visiting my childhood videogames. I was an arcade rat from 6 years old on haha ALONG with having the Nintendo and all those systems. I actually have an original dedicated Cabinet of the 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with original everything (except new wiring of course) and I actually broke down and bought myself a couple of Arcade 1ups for Christmas (Turtles in Time, and X-Men) because building up original machines would be a bit too expensive and time consuming at the moment. I AM excited for a current game finally though. I'm going to start this Back 4 Blood game this weekend. I LOVE the L4D games. I have really good memories of playing that with my buddies when that came out (one of whom isn't here anymore. RIP)

I remember how stoked I would be to find a full sized X-Men cabinet that would let me play as Dazzler. Don't know why, but she was my favorite to play as. One of my biggest hits as a kid was Wrestlemania (the arcade game). I think by the time my local arcade shut down I had every score in the top 25 or whatever list. Just row after row of my initials... which, being the utter cringe-monkey I was, were actually Shane's initials.
Man. Just... flashbacks.

Actually the joke is on you, I have a gaming PC too, along with a Switch. Can't wait to pick up Tomb Raider trilogy from Epic for free tomorrow. But hey you keep being the cool guy with your MaSteR pC rAce 😉 One of us used technical skill and ingenuity to build a gaming pc for less than $300 that could easily rival one for 3k and the other paid for at least 5 gaming systems, not counting previous gen but yes, the joke is surely on me here PC gaming is the single most overrated, genuinely not fun thing I ever tried. Not to mention when I mention my ps5, nobody hits me with the stereotypes and assumptions that come with PC gaming.

Not to mention when I mention my ps5, nobody hits me with the stereotypes and assumptions that come with PC gaming. I do PC and console. I never understood why people feel the need to dig their heels into the ground over one versus the other. PC gaming is typically reserved for co-op games - I'm not out here trying to buy a subscription on top of a full priced game just to play alongside other people in real time. That said, I only play co-op with my friends, so we're only buying games that the rest of us are buying as is. I much prefer to play single player games on console. I feel like I can relax and immerse myself in the story better that way. I'm actually holding off on the next gen to see if MS buying Bethesda has any exclusivity effect on the next Fallout game, cause that will absolutely be a decision driver for me. TL;DR...PC vs. console is one of the dumbest wars the internet has ever come up with. ¿Por que no los dos?

It’s not a grey area, really. Selling old toys that are no longer available in stores for whatever price you want: not scalping. Sometimes that sucks, but that’s the nature of antiques/collectibles. Selling off Kickstarter/preorder stuff for whatever price you want: not scalping. Was available to everyone and by it’s nature, the buyer is offered the opportunity to act as the “store” if they so choose. Buying brand new figures/cleaning out current store shelves with the intent of gouging others who now can’t buy the same item: scalping. People can justify it however they want, but that’s what it is. I guess the gray area I'm referring to is your first topic. How do we know the people selling MOC Hasbros in 2021 for insane profits weren't scalpers in the early 90s? It's very possible. Is it not scalping as long as you wait (x) amount of years before reselling? I agree with your points, but really do believe there just isn't a perfect answer that satisfies everyone when it come to the aftermarket. If I had bought these Hasbro WWF figures in the 90s instead of comic books and sold them in 2021, I could buy an island in Hawaii. Crush Kamala Nailz Owen Hart Razor Ramon Shawn Michaels Bam Bam Bigelow Bret Hart Narcissist Lex Luger Mr Perfect Undertaker Yokozuna Doink Hacksaw Jim Duggan Rick Steiner Scott Steiner Tatanka Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase Bushwhacker Luke Bushwhacker Butch Headshrinker Samu Headshrinker Fatu Marty Jannetty Shawn Michaels Razor Ramon El Gigante 1-2-3 Kid Adam Bomb Ludvig Borga Bart Gunn Billy Gunn Crush Yokozuna

What a way to end 2021 with this thread!
Summary:
1. Scalping bad
2. Selling old toys you collected / played with 40 years ago which happen to have vastly increased in value is not scalping
3. PC gaming v console - really depends on game / game genre and what you play. Tight side scrolling platforming on pc? Not so much. First person shooters? Yep
4. Personally I only went to ps2 level but went back to mega drive (or Genesis if your in the usa) and nes/SNES. 8/16bit fits what I play/need/want fine
5. Happy new year!!!!

No because that was a month or so long open pre order available to everyone If a local store has 3 figures and someone buys all 3 with the intention of reselling 2 that’s different to the above Like say a store has 50 of a figure and someone bought 2 to resell leaving 48 available that’s different but unfortunately they clear the pegs. If they left figures available that would be one thing but it would defeat the reason for scalping

Yeah, the problem people have with scalping is that it artificially limits local supply, which forces collectors to go to an aftermarket venue where the items are only available at inflated prices. Committing to a crowdfunding campaign with an intent to resell actually contributes to a supply increase and doesn't prevent anyone else from ordering.

I’m going to start scalping PCs. I know this is a joke, but if you had an old computer parts store near you that sold circa 2000 or so computer parts, you could probably build a nice rig to play retro pc games and then sell it for loads to an old school gamer.
I sort of want one myself so I can finally play Descent III after all these years. Never did find out what happened to the Material Defender.

I’m going to start scalping PCs. If you can get your mitts on just the parts, you won't need a job. A good CPU or GPU could buy you a few Harley Race Elites.

I would like to know your thoughts on people who purchased the upcoming New Generation set with the intent to resell. Do you consider that scalping? Not at all. People who ordered multiple just to resell helped it reach it’s goals so that it could all be made. Scalping is buying the last 3 figures a store has just to resell, which leads to people having to go 3rd party and pay more if they want the figure(s) that they may have been able to find for retail themselves if not for the scalper.

Sold 3 older figures. Made some money. Called it a day. Actually I hate selling. Makes me have to go to the post office. The money isn’t worth it.
