Was thinking WCW Cactus Jack, but will take literally anything Foley they want to release. He gets skipped over for random sets (MOTU, Garbage Pail Kids, etc) that I think he'd be great in. I really think Foley deserves an Ultimate Edition figure - and my vote would be Mankind in brown tights/white shirt look. It's the most iconic match (and moment!) of his career... plus, we've only ever had that look as a Basic 🤷‍♂️. I wonder whether they could soft good their way to having both the white and brown shirt in (I say this on the assumption that the tights and boots are the same, which I don't know for sure). Failing that, include his crappy self-made referee shirt as the soft goods instead.

If you sacrifice the detailed boots he wore in 96 for plain black boots that he wore in 98, then it’s possible to make a Mankind that is both the brown attire and Corporate Mankind with the shirt and brown pants I would rather have a proper Dude Love tho

Everyone is going to get unrealistic hopes up and then bash Mattel when it’s not who they want. There's plenty to bash Mattel for without going into fantasy booking. Using child labor for garbo repaints in the legends line comes to mind. Sometimes that “garbo repaint” to you is a figure another collector has been anticipating so…

Whether a handful of people buy the garbo repaint or not. Cheap repaint rubbish

Not a fan of straight releases, but I do think major characters should get repaints/improved figures in different attires at various points, the frequency of which roughly determined by how popular a character is. That’s pretty much a win-win for everyone.

That’s pretty much a win-win for everyone. In the case of JBL specifically, I wasn’t collecting when he came out. I have since bought a loose version for a “decent” price on eBay. But since he was a figure from so early in the line, he suffers from a soft headsculpt that honestly isn’t even as good as some Jakks versions. So I absolutely want an updated version with TrueFX. And that’s true of many older figures. If people don’t want them, just don’t buy them. It seems like some people say they don’t want updates because then they’ll *have* to buy a double or whatever, but you really don’t have to.

As a foreign customer, I'm hoping that the Acolytes are the wrong part of the Legends 15 and they get a wider release in the regular Elite line.

Updated figures in different attire fulfill the wants of collectors who weren't buying a decade ago, fix issues with the older figures for people who were collecting back then, and if someone who owns the old figures doesn't;t want to buy another of the same character they simply get to save money. Honestly, I really don't understand why anyone has an issue with it.

My only issue with it is if it takes priority over a new/different look... especially when that wrestler's only had a couple of Elite figures in the first place. As I said, I'd much rather have a brand new Acolytes Bradshaw or Justin Hawk Bradshaw over an updated JBL (...which would probably be the exact same figure, just with TrueFX and maybe a belt). That's all.

That's all. I do get that to a point, but I can also see the flipside where JBL is clearly the most successful run of his career, and likely the most in-demand version. A tights Acolytes and especially a Justin Hawk Bradshaw are almost niche in comparison. I also think that Mattel is essentially in uncharted waters here. They've almost matched the timeframe Jakks had the license, and unlike Jakks haven't changed core form-factor several times, so really they have to juggle appealing to the people who were collecting 12 years ago vs people who've begun in the last 3-4 (especially new or returning adult collectors) who want representations of their favorite wrestlers for their collection. And while it's easy to say "they should get them on the secondary market" it's frankly dumb on Mattel's part to do that. Again, I'm not banging the drum for direct rereleases, but digging up attires that haven't been made yet that allow the character to reappear in the line while at the same time not iminihing the collectibility of the previous versions are fine by me.

They absolutely don’t have to care about people who have been collecting since day one. That only holds them back from a business perspective by deterring collectors of all types. If someone gets mad or quits collecting the line because Mattel rereleases an attire, how invested were those people really? Are they worth taking seriously? Not to mention, the tech and sculpt capabilities have increased a lot in that time frame. It’s different enough to warrant some upgrades.

I think they can care in the sense that improving on the figure sculpt and attire-wise could get some of those people to double-dip, as opposed to a straight rerelease. Plus, while I don't think business can be guided by it, I do think there's a way to balance out not letting them dictate the line while at the same time keeping them content in their collections maintaining sentimental and/or financial value by not dropping exactly rereleases. (FWIW, I definitely wouldn't count a figure with upgraded tooling or sculpting as a straight referees, even if the attire was similar)

Additionally, in some other collector markets even if an item is almost exactly re-released, there's still additional value applied to the "original version" in many cases. Not that they should massively care about what the resale market is doing, in fairness. Ultimately, from a business standpoint, a re-release would: a) be accessible for new collectors b) be accessible for current collectors who missed out c) probably FOMO a decent % of the current collectors who had the original into getting the re-release They could just make tiny adjustments. For example, L5 Rick Martel could be re-released without the jacket. Little details.

Longtime collectors (I am one) tend to forget how much happens in ten years. A whole bunch of kids are born. A bunch of kids who were too young for this stuff are now teenagers or 20 somethings with disposable cash. People like me who quit after Jakks, but got back into it along the way. Just saying “too bad, go to eBay” is selfish and dumb, and ultimately not something Mattel or retail stores should ever care about. Obviously not ever person or attire should be remade, but really iconic attires and characters absolutely should.

Royal Rumble 91, arguably one of his highlight moments in WWE, when he set the ironman record. The same event, he cuts a promo in the full gear (bowtie, glasses etc) without the jacket and comes to the ring without the jacket. It'd hardly be a shocking or dumb choice.
