That is too bad. I understand Native Americans not wanting to be mascots or halloween costumes, but we can't go back in time and take the warbonnet and tomahawk off of Strongbow. This was a politically incorrect but historically accurate figure intended for adult collectors that should have been released. Mate “politically incorrect” is a very generous way to describe Strongbow’s gimmick. Racist is the appropriate word. Strange this thing was getting made in the first place. This figure getting made or not does nothing for Strongbow’s historical relevance, he’ll still have existed without this precious historical artifact of a collector’s edition. Just so we’re all aware of the landscape regarding native american characters in film and entertainment around this time period: www.sportskeeda.com/amp/pop-culture/news-john-wayne-1973-oscars-attack-clint-eastwood-mocking-sacheen-littlefeather-explained-will-smith-x-chris-rock-slap-sparks-debateGuess Yoko, Razor & Kamala are all racist too.

Guess Yoko, Razor & Kamala are all racist too. I mean, yeah. It’s not hard to understand. The context of those all differ in severity, but are you really gonna tell me Kamala is an accurate depiction of black men in Uganda? Edit: obviously the men playing the characters aren’t racist, they’re just trying to keep a good job.

Primitive, barbaric, savages who needed to be wiped out by the heroic, civilized good guy cowboys. To the best of my knowledge, the character of Chief Jay Strongbow was always a heroic babyface, and was played with dignity, poise and respect by Joe Scarpa. Nothing about the portrayal was cheap, comical or stereotypical. He was even very close with Tatanka, an actual Native American, and Tatanka called him a mentor. He was one of most over babyfaces of his era and one of the first WWE Hall of Famers. When the alternative to releasing the figure is to sweep a piece of his legacy under carpet, I personally think that does more damage than if it were released to be enjoyed by his fans.

This 100% Nobody would care if this was released….This has become a bigger issue by not releasing it. Nobody is offended by this figure.

Why are you still buying figures made in China then? I’m about done. While I do support products made in China atleast I’m willing to call them out on their human rights. Mattel would grovel at chinas feet if it meant saving a penny all while acting like an Italian man playing dress up 40 years ago is the worst thing ever. Why dont you call out human rights issues in the US?

That is why it is remarkable that wrestlers with gimmicks like Wahoo McDaniel and Jay Strongbow were over as babyfaces.
You are right that Strongbow will be relevant whether this figure is released or not. But I see figure collecting as another way to record wrestling's history - the good and the bad. We recently had a Col. Mustafa released - an evil Iraqi character played a wrestler from Iran (Iraq's archenemy). That would seem to be just as racist, if not more.

I hear you, I still think that’s roundabout logic to try and justify Strongbow’s character and I don’t think it holds up. Strongbow was a baby, yes, but he was 100% comical at times and almost always stereotypical. It might not have been as vindictive as other portrayals in media at the time, but that’s a high bar to set with how blatantly racist a lot of those old westerns are. Also getting Tatanka’s approval means very little to this argument lol. That’s the “but I have a black friend” argument. The point I’m trying to get at is these characters are obviously offensive in their portrayals, and maybe an action figure glorifying that offensive portrayal isn’t the classiest way of honoring their “legacy”.

Personally I think this is a big fuss about nothing, there’s no way all of you cared this much about Strongbow. I mean when was his last match, 1982?
I just never want to miss a chance to diss Ryder because he’s made this hobby so much worse the last 4 years lmao

Ever hear of Guantanamo Bay? And what woman in China disappeared for claiming assault? International tennis player Peng Shuai. Accused one Xi Jinping's ex-cronies of assault then vanished. Global newsmaker, then showed back up and dismissed everything. Hope this is my last contribution to this thread before it gets locked.

She never said she was assaulted and her social media post was twisted and mistranslated. It was just a common extramarital affair and she got dumped. She was seen with friends all over Beijing and then showed up at the Olympics.

The only contribution I’m making to this topic is that it’s as always hilarious that there are people who will literally spin anything in this board into being Cardona’s fault. Is the reason conspiracy theory they they posted the figures on eBay themselves?

Fair takes. I think you’re just consciously looking past the real issue of a white man playing a hammed up native american, regardless of his presentation of a baby or heel. Like, these folk were genocided and forcibly moved off their land by white folk. Any appearance of white folk portraying their race and lifestyle would be triggering as hell. Having your identity be constantly rewritten and reimagined by the people that murdered your culture in the name of commodification is gross. Strongbow’s character is offensive in a unique fashion. Mustafa is a messed up figure to make, but for differing reasons we don’t need to get into.

As I said, she accused him, she cut off communication for weeks, she reappeared on a globally televised event put on by her country after her story reached international levels retracting it.

Yes this thread is locked because politics and all of this talk of wokeness/cancel culture and such does not belong here. There are other places to talk about that, not here.
