I’m pretty sure on the WrestleMania V disc of the Anthology set they dubbed in Hogan saying WWE instead of WWF during an interview. One I remember being weird but it only lasted a little while was on 24/7 when the full WWF name appeared on the nameplate( I remember specifically Vince entrance) they blurred out the ''Federation'' part. I'm like WTF I thought they can still use the full name. I guess the edit guy didnt get the memo. Other times I remember some edits getting past the censors like when somebody would say WWF real fast.

Like everyone else, I was shocked as it literally seemed to come out of nowhere. And apparently all because a world wildlife fund employee was mistaken for a WWF employee (or due to Vince not paying a licensing fee to the world wildlife fund; whatever story you want to believe). The WWE does sound like knock-off brand of the WWF that you’d find at a Dollar General. To me, it also signaled the change in marketing where everything was about the “WWE Universe” and “XXX MOMENT.” Rather than let things happen naturally, it’s all forced and manufactured. WWF > WWE The entire thing is Vince's fault. They had an agreement that Vince could only use "World Wrestling Federation" in Europe. That agreement was working until the internet came along. WWE decided to use WWF.com as their URL in Europe, which directly violated the agreement.

Vince McMahon could've kept the WWF initials if he made annual donations to the World Wildlife Fund and helped promote awareness for endangered species but he refused.

What I don't get is why they can't use any of the WWF logos. They just look like a W with an F at the end.
It's annoying when you see classic belts with a WWE logo and even old school arenas in video games.

Yeah, that was the most disappointing part of the New Generation Arena by Mattel, it has the W logo on the ring skirts, not the WWF logo.

It’s somewhat odd that when “that other place” started making classic replica belts in 04/05 timeframe they used the block WWF logo. I’d love to get the dual plated winged eagle they have on WWEshop, but the W logo kills it for me. It’s that or rolling the dice with Pakistani makers.

I got the WWE shop winged eagle and yeah it sucks the F aint there but it's still gorgeous in person. If you can afford it I recommend it.It has good weight behind it and looks awesome displayed.

I remember going onto their website and seeing WWF replaced with WWE with no explanation and being confused as hell. Thank Christ the WWF logos aren't blurred out anymore though.

I forgot all about the horrible editing if the WWF logo! Those anthology sets they released were near unwatchable, especially the Attitude Era stuff. I remember being so thankful for the Tagged Classics series during this time.

I still don’t believe that Vince just lost this. Perhaps he was ok with letting it go & didn’t really care to fight & win for it.
I remember before a Raw episode they had the commercial about Get the F out & it’s the WWE now. I didn’t know what was going on & figured it’s not real. It’ll be WWF again next time.
To me it’s WWF. When wrestlers talk about their days in the WWF & I hear “Back in my days the WWE…..” it’s weird.

It might be a little of both the lawsuit and Vince wanting to make a "brand" WWE the initials itself seem like a brand name. I think back in the days of our youth we might have specified if we were watching WWF or WCW but since WWE bought WCW and changed the name, so many associate wrestling with WWE. The lawsuit may have got things rolling, but I think it was also probably Vince wanting to have his global entertainment brand. The only thing confusing is still having "wrestling" in the name.

I agree. Perhaps he had pictured this whole new brand idea & with selling shares in the company or in the coming future the idea to brand out & not be WWF anymore was easy to do.

Wasn’t the main issue the Wildlife company couldn’t be found on the internet? When ever people searched for it wrestling would come up?
I mean come on, the Wildlife was .org & WWF was .com. If you mess that up that’s on you. Key phrase search.

it still feels like a fake placeholder name.
Just watch an old video of Mean Gene saying "World Wrestling Federation" and it just sounds right.

Anything that existed before 2002 should have the accurate logo.

WWF just rolls off the tongue better. Took me awhile to get used to "WCW" instead of "NWA", but it eventually stuck with me. 20 years later and WWE still doesn't sound right

He blatantly violated their prior agreement. www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2002/feb/27/charitieslaw.charities1The change is entirely on Vince and the WWE.
