We’re hitting 20 years since the name change. WWE still sounds a bit weird to me. Even weirder to think they’ve been WWE longer than WWF in my lifetime.
I remember a friend telling me the morning of the change and thought it was crazy. Sadly we didn’t have mini computers in our pockets yet to settle arguments. So it was to the library with the slow internet that this was confirmed.
What are your memories of the name change?

I still hate the name, ugh.
I remember the day the news broke my brother had confused a few stories & said they were splitting the company into 2 brands, WWA and WWB and I was like, WHAT!? lol but yea, it was unfathomable that they’d change the name, I was so disappointed. WWF just sounds so much better & it had the history. I still hate it
WWE sounds like the dollar store version of WWF. Like how they’d have the Z-MEN instead of the X-MEN

I remember being shocked as it came outta nowhere. Hard to believe it's been 20 years already. I remember those ''get the F out'' ads like it was yesterday.
I know one thing...World Wrestling Federation> World Wrestling Entertainment

I know one thing...World Wrestling Federation> World Wrestling EntertainmentAnd it's not even close... I wasn't watching wrestling as much during this time, so I didn't even know it happened. I turned on Raw one night, and JR was talking about the WWE champion, I had know idea what the hell he was talking about. I thought they were doing another invasion type angle and the new companies name was the WWE. I've never cared for the new name. Granted it's not that different from the old one, but calling someone a World Wrestling Entertainment Champion just doesn't have a nice ring to it.

The company even started going downhill since the name change.
The WWE will always live in the shadow of the WWF.

I remember watching Raw that night with my friend and Lillian Garcia saying, "and the new WWE European Champion" and I was like, "ha ha ha Lillian messed up once again! She said WWE and not WWF" and then Jim Ross called it WWE and Jerry Lawler and everyone else and I was like, "what the hell?!?!"
WWF was better than WWE but I will say this... 2004 - 2006 for WWE were definitely their best years for matches, feuds and programs.

The company even started going downhill since the name change. The WWE will always live in the shadow of the WWF. Omg it was like overnight the company went from being hot to heading directly to where it is today. The brand split, as soon as that happened the shows just lose all their air. They also stopped creating new stars because they brought back every wrestler that had ever been a star there, in 1 calendar year. Edge was well on his way to becoming a star in 2002…who’s gonna wanna see Edge in a title match though when you have a returning HBK, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Scott Steiner, Goldberg, so on and so on. It totally derailed the process of creating news stars & the company has sucked since. Now they try to make new stars but they just come off second rate.

Don’t get me wrong since 02 til 2022 we’ve seen some great matches , storylines, feuds and some real big superstars made in the WWE but the original WWF will always reign on top in my opinion.

At the time it was the dumbest thing ever to me! Here in the UK on Sky TV for a while before the change it would be listed as WWFE RAW and WWFE Smackdown and I thought for sure that WWFE would be the new name and that they would keep the WWF logo, but just have the word entertainment under it.
Over time I have just come to accept it, the weird thing is I have no problem saying WWE, but saying World Wrestling Entertainment I think still sounds stupid. Crazy to think that there have been more WWE WrestleMania's than WWF WrestleMania's at this point!

I know one thing...World Wrestling Federation> World Wrestling EntertainmentYes definitely! I've never liked the new name, although I had pretty much lost interest in wrestling 2-3 years earlier anyway. It irritates me when wrestlers talk about The WWE - "the World Wrestling Entertainment" just doesn't sound right to me.

Just adds to the list of what I don't like about Vince and his vision for pro wrestling.

Crazy to think that there have been more WWE WrestleMania's than WWF WrestleMania's at this point! Yeah, they should have went with WWF Entertainment. They could have kept the old logos and just added "Entertainment" underneath. This way you could still call the company the WWF. From what I remember reading about the lawsuit, the World Wildlife Foundation was upset about the use of WWF in foreign markets (advertisements, websites, etc.) If they would have just added the "Entertainment" part to the logos, and the website could have been WWFE.com or WWFentertainment.com, they might have been fine. I remember being shocked as it came outta nowhere. Hard to believe it's been 20 years already. I remember those ''get the F out'' ads like it was yesterday. It irritates me when wrestlers talk about The WWE - "the World Wrestling Entertainment" just doesn't sound right to me. The thing that irritates me the most is when former WWF stars, who never wrestled in the WWE, call themselves a WWE champion. You were in the WWF, call yourself the WWF champion...

Like everyone else, I was shocked as it literally seemed to come out of nowhere. And apparently all because a world wildlife fund employee was mistaken for a WWF employee (or due to Vince not paying a licensing fee to the world wildlife fund; whatever story you want to believe).
The WWE does sound like knock-off brand of the WWF that you’d find at a Dollar General. To me, it also signaled the change in marketing where everything was about the “WWE Universe” and “XXX MOMENT.” Rather than let things happen naturally, it’s all forced and manufactured.
WWF > WWE

What's scary is there will be a time where people view WWF like someone like me views WWWF
I wasn't around for WWWF so don't know a lot about it
Crazy
WCW and ECW ending and WWF name change all happened in a span of what 18 months?

One thing I am glad was settled was the blurring of the WWF both verbally and physically on old footage. That made stuff from 98-02 impossible to watch
I remember watching 24/7 back in 2012(when it was settled) and seeing stuff unblurred for the first time in forever and saying finally!!!
