Yes! The thrill of the hunt is gone now. Finding new figures in store is not as exciting anymore when retail is now about $24 after tax for an elite and even more than that for an AEW fig. When they were $16 at Walmart it was an awesome find. But now retail isn't any better than finding online. An over 20% price increase is insane. Give it a month or two and Ringside is much cheaper than retail these days.

online.... i hate even going into a packed store to look for something , when they have nothing , or better yet have old stock thats rotting and completes my wasted time and gas. used to buy the newer talent also when i really liked the figure, now i pass completely.

I go hunting significantly less than I did just a year or two ago. I cut way back on what I'm buying and I pass a lot more than I used to with the price increases of figures and just about everything else. I've also started to notice that sales in stores have seemingly slowed down a lot lately. I've been seeing things on clearance at Target for almost the first time ever. This is coming from a store that literally NEVER discounted the most notorious shelf warming figures through the years. So now I'm either skipping completely, or I'm just waiting to see what hits clearance. Occasionally I'll grab something at full price but it's becoming less and less.

Ever since I started collecting, the thrill of the in person hunt has always been a big draw. I don't collect in the quantities I used to so nowadays I order through Ringside if there's something I really want. The Walmart and Target in my area are never stocked that well but I did see a few new things this weekend which were cool to see in person.

Nothing comes out in Australia. I order off rsc normally pre order then get sad when the prizes halve. FOMO is real.

no the prices havenβt ruined the hunt for me
what ruined the hunt was my Walmarts hardly getting good stuff in, and not living near a Target. plus I mainly use PayPal credit or their pay in 4 for my figures so canβt use that at retail.
if itβs something I really want I usually order it from RSC when it goes up but Iβve learned I should wait for their sales on most things because of their prices. a month or so after RSC gets in something new and itβs not on pre-order/back-order they seem to start dropping their prices on them, plus their sales drop prices some, too. so a couple or few months after theyβre closer to retail while retail or most retail still hasnβt even gotten them in yet

Living in Australia is even more rougher, new elite figures cost $45, basically no retailer sells AEW figures, you have to pay $60+ for new ones online or wait a year and get them for $30, Supremes cost $100, most Ringside Exclusive figures cost $100, Ultimate editions cost $70 and Target exclusive ones cost $100, legends figures cost $70
I would die if I could buy all my figs for $20-$30

Still have to hunt retail for exclusives when certain retailers are too lazy to fulfill preorders, but I started doing online during the pandemic and really didn't look back. The extra month or two head start they get on retail with product is just something retailers really can't compete with. Add in the price hikes, and there really isn't a reason to drive all over the place and waste gas hunting right now.

I rarely pay retail price for figures anymore. Only if its a character I really want or one that I imagine will be hard to find (which is rare these days), I will pay retail or a bit over retail to preorder.
But other than that, I wait for a sale or I get figures for below retail price online. I'd say I do this for about 90% of figures I buy now.

I play βthe long gameβ for most of my figures. Retail prices and stock are not good. I look forward to Ringside Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals so I can catch up on the WWE/AEW figures Iβve passed on or didnβt see at retail.

I used to primarily get all my figures at my local fig shop. They would be marked up about $5-$10 dollars, but I didn't mind because I didn't have to go hunting. But now, distribution has become a lot better for WWE figures in my area, and with the price increase I don't want to pay $30-$40 for a regular elite. So I usually am able to grab most of the WWE/Marvel Legends figures at retail, but AEW figures are still hard to come by, so I still pay the upcharge because I know it's unlikely I'll find most of them at retail.

I'm cherry-picking my collecting nowadays for numerous reasons. One I was at one point, just buying figures left and right to avoid some of the problems I had in life. I then realized I was buying stuff that didn't make me happy in the long term, so little by little I started selling off my collection. I'm looking into minimalism. I've stuck with mainly collecting the Attitude/Monday Night Wars rosters with a sprinkle of other characters I like. After I sold a lot of my figures it just became overwhelming to realize how much time and energy I put into something into collecting. I still have a bunch of stuff that I'm getting rid of and it's been somewhat of a headache. Listing things online, finding prices, buying shipping materials, dealing with long post office lines etc. Now when I make a purchase I think about whether it's a figure I really want and if it adds any value (sentimentally) to my roster. Now, there are days when I just want to give it all up and just sell off my whole collection... There's other things I'd like to do and collecting does take a portion of mental space. Who knows? As far as purchases, I haven't bought a figure in stores in years. It's an absolute waste of time. I'd never find anything I want. I just order it online when they're in stock. There aren't any figures that I need to order in advance either, so for me just online.

I haven't enjoyed the figure hunt in years, but that's a distribution issue. Occasionally I'll find a great deal (I got the UE Mr. T on clearance at Target recently!) but if I'm in a big box store, it's for something incidental rather than specifically for figures.

Honestly, lack of space is my biggest deterrent on buying anything new.

I think in a way it's like any other addiction. I still like figures, just not the way I used to though. Have you sold any of your stuff?
