History is always taught by the winners, and we get a very WWE-centric view of most things. ECW, a company Vince wanted to help and through WWE lenses is presented in a rather positive light. On the other hand there’s a lot of negativity surrounding WCW, WCW management and where they went wrong. However when it comes to the Mattel figures, there’s a reasonable amount of WCW alumni figures ~ which I kind of love. Though there’s kind of a gap when it comes to ECW alumni. I’ve got my ECW Bam Bam, my ECW Cactus and that’s about it!

The problem is the talent being willing and able to sign legends deals. ECW originals are either bitter or dead. You can get RVD and Terry Funk…

The problem is the talent being willing and able to sign legends deals. ECW originals are either bitter or dead. You can get RVD and Terry Funk… Not sure about the dead comment? New Jack, Balls and Axl. Um, who else? Every wrestler besides Kronus is alive from their first PPV. |

This biggest issue is ECW was a niche promotion & many of those fans arent around any more. There's some names that Mattel could make money on because you could get a variety of looks like Douglas, RVD, Dudleys, Taz & Dreamer...but guys like Pit Bulls, Balls & Axl, Tanaka, Corino etc will just simply rot on shelves because nobody has a clue who they are.

I am not suggesting they come out with ECW packaging or Best of ECW like Jakks did, but doing Terry again with a shirt and the ECW belt would be great, they could could do RVD with something he wore in ECW with a belt, could easily do Rey, Eddie with the ECW TV belt. That’s 4 figures. Paul E. with his ECW hat is about to be released. They could do another Paul E. Anyone extra after this is bonus. I’m sure there’s at least one or two others we could add.

Eddie in his ECW American Flag gear is something Mattel has to do, it’s so toyetic, Dom wore a tribute gear of it a while back too

ECW is iconic, it needs more representation in the line. I think we’ve only got RVD, Cactus, Bam Bam, & Funk. Luckily I have some customs to fill the gaps, but I need to get some time to make more. I’d love a green zebra tights tv champ Eddie Guerrero.
The fans still chant for ecw and the promotion went under 22 years ago.

A lot of the big names are still somewhat active and don’t want to be tied down with a legends deal. Guys like Raven, Dreamer, Buh Buh. Shane and Sabu appear to have burned bridges. Candido is controlled by Tammy and they probably don’t want any association with her right now.

Also keep in mind WWE has final approval. So even if Mattel wanted to do ECW Eddie, Rey, Austin, Heyman, another Funk, etc. it’s likely WWE nixed it and said to do another more recognizable/modern version instead.

The best chance at ECW figs is with the lines outside of WWE because of the Legends Deal issue. Jazwares (if they ever decided to do a separate legends line a la Classic Superstars), Zombie Sailor, maybe even Powertown if they decided to go down that path.
