Fan Takeover voting worked, I don'y know why they don't go that route more often. Didn’t always work. Like when we got a fourth release of WM6 Warrior over new attires. Non collectors vote and just vote for the most ‘iconic’ choice Well that’s their fault for putting a dumb choice like that in there |

Extremely on the fence. The stage looks incredible, but I just feel very uninspired. The figures are cool, but meh. Plus, you’re not even guaranteed to get them all. I don’t know.

I'm gonna share my thoughts on this all in one place now....
I will preface by saying I am absolutely ordering 1. I'm really happy about this entire thing because it's just good for the hobby overall.
I'm also going to start with the positives...
The entrance stage is awesome. It's iconic. It's perfectly done. Everything about it RULES. The deco, the size, the lighting. What an absolute home run. If I was 16 years old I'd be losing my MIND with excitement to get this.
5 Ultimate Edition figures is also a great bonus. $35 each (retail) = $175. Making up almost half the cost. When you think about how much the entrance and ring cost in the new gen set, this feels right. I definitely don't feel ripped off by this price point IF we get to all tiers.
The figures themselves are mostly all iconic. I don't really think Warrior qualifies...but he is the last tier and really counts as a bonus. It's a unique look and cool to potentially have in figure form.
Now getting to my alternative opinions on all these figures...
Hulk Hogan-
An absolute must for Ultimate collectors. A WCW "debut" is an important piece for us. But why do we need 2 shirts? seems kind of unnecessary. Especially given the next few tiers. It seems like they went heavy on Hogan accessories not saving room for much else
Rey Mysterio-
This one is a head scratcher TBH. It's not a memorable attire, I guess it's gonna come with a robe, but like we JUST got a Rey in a robe with the legends figure and its WCW-esque. Not to mention we are also JUST getting another Ultimate Rey in a way more impressive attire/look. It's a weird choice to say the least. I'm not all that thrilled about it.
DDP-
This is where they both have and lose me. DDP in jeans is his most iconic look in WCW. his peak was when he was wearing jeans. Plus we haven't really gotten it in figure form properly. This feels like a miss. No title belt, no rib tape,just very few accessories. It's going to be a VERY light "ultimate" figure. It looks cool, it's a nice figure. I just feel like it's the wrong choice overall for this set.
Scott Steiner-
This is an excellent way to debut Steiner in the line. It will sell on name alone, I'm glad he's coming with the US belt, it still feels light on accessories though for an "ultimate"
Ultimate Warrior-
This one is both puzzling and cool at the same time. I get it being the last tier because its really obscure. Glad it would be coming with a full duster, that will help put it over the top. But if we were going to get a figure in jeans for this set....it should have been DDP, and they could have put anybody else besides Warrior in the last tier. It seems like warrior is taking up a lot of budget with a detailed duster.
The figure choices are solid, but I honestly feel like they are just the wrong moves. We have an overload of Rey, Hogan and Warrior in every line... DDP is not in his most iconic look and accessory light. Steiner is obviously the standout and it feels like he should be the guaranteed one.
This thing is FOR collectors, not casuals. They don't need 3 anchor figures....and it feels like they dont have enough confidence in this to go a different route
Debut Ultimate Booker T, debut Ultimate DDP (in jeans) and debut Ultimate Scott Steiner would have been sufficient. Then you bring a Hogan and either Warrior or Rey if you need "top" guys.
Lastly, I still firmly believe (unless they have it in their back pocket) that one of the teirs should have been WCW themed ropes, turnbuckles & ringskirts. We've just bought 2 real scale rings in the last calendar year. Those have sold pretty damn well. Everyone would love the ability to convert one of those rings to match this entrance. Again, we don't know how this is all going to play out, but I feel like if they started with those accessories as a tier instead of a figure it would have gotten WAY more positive responses.
All in all, this thing OVERALL is fantastic. I'm absolutely in for 1....I just would have handled it differently if I was creating it

Re. Figure choices - I do wonder is it 1. Lack of confidence in wcw only / primarily guys? (I don’t think so, at least not from Steve’s perspective but he’s only one person) 2. Licensor (ie wwe) not wanting to push wcw? (There’s a fair few wcw DVDs out there issued by wwe so I don’t think so) That leads me to think there’s a batch of wcw guys who never come to wwe (or did for a cup of coffee) not signed I will say though I love that warrior. I get 100% the people who don’t, but for me it’s such a different look to all other warriors (similar to the raw after hof one) that I like it WWE/Vince has always been weird/petty with how they have treated WCW and people that worked for the company. I find that more likely over Mattel thinking this was the best batch of people to go with. On the other hand, it's possible someone from Mattel could have pushed for these figures. My overall thoughts: If Hogan was going to be in it, he should have been in another NWO attire with better accessories (such as a non-plastic boa). DDP was a good choice, but he should have been in jeans like everyone wants (probably didn't go that route since Warrior is in jeans). Warrior - my fav so def hope he makes it, but I don't think 11K will back this. I said this before, but Warrior, Scott, or another Macho Man should have been the early bird. Maybe they'll throw in another. With that being said, something seems off with the figure. Scott - great choice, but he is going to get a lot of figures so I feel like they went with a boring/plain attire on purpose. Rey - Rey overload/fatigue (plus we are getting an ultimate in the RA line) for someone that is always going to get lots of figures released as long as he is under contract. Should have been swapped for Lugar, Mr. Perfect or singles Booker T. Overall, I would have rather had Harlem Heat and the Outsiders, but I'm sure they are being saved for RSC releases. Bischoff doesn't really need to be an ultimate and is probably being saved for Legends or as a BAF release. The stage is awesome and is the true star. I definitely will back it, but like a lot of people here, I'm not sure where I will put it and I'm underwhelmed by the figure/attire choices. |

This is where Mattel should open up a little more and have a fan choice crowd fund. First option A Attitude Era stage or option B wcw stage. Then whoever wins that give us options of what we want included and the top 5 get put into tiers. Once again a free think take for them. Them keeping things so secretive blew up in their face but it’ll be out fault because we didn’t back it. Fan Takeover voting worked, I don'y know why they don't go that route more often. If Fan Takeover voting worked Hogan wouldn’t have been the early bird. We woulda had him already. |

I wonder if Mattel would be willing to change DDP into his jeans over the tights we’ve already seen multiple times in the Elite line? Maybe there’s a reason they held off and we will get it down the road.. but now seems like the perfect time to make it happen.

The more I think about it, the more hyped I'm getting, and will probably back this. I was one of the many hoping for maybe more fun/new/interesting figure choices to come with the stage, but Steiner is at least new and my WCW shelf is all NWO right now anyway, so it's not like I have one of the previous DDP's or Rey's. Fingers crossed that this is the start of some sweet, sweet WCW reveals and releases.
