It is 100% worth what they are charging. But that really isn't the point. I mean a Lamborghini is totally worth the price as well but that doesn't mean I want to spend that much on something that isn't practical for my lifestyle. I love the WCW stage, and I love that they made it considering everyone was asking them to when they displayed something similar last year. But at the end of the day $400 is a lot of money, and I would need a place to put it and enjoy it and I just don't have that. It really sucks, but I bet a lot of people are having the same issue.

Do I think the cost is a lot of money to spend on myself at once? Yes, I do. Do I think what Mattel is charging is a fair price at the base 5000? Yes, I do. Hell, I was willing to pay more. But I do see how $450 + after shipping can be a high price for people to spend at once. That’s why I had to negotiate that first weekend with my wife before I backed it. I was willing to buy it for more and in a way I did. Because part of the deal I made with her to spend so much on myself was we’d redo the kitchen and her home office regardless if this gets backed or not. The only thing in my favor is if the stage doesn’t get backed then I get to keep the funds I was spending on this to spend on something else.

$400? Sure Problem has always been charging everyone outside the US $626 plus postage. $695 CAD plus postage and tax for Canadians. Grand total = ~$800-$825 depending on what Province you live in.

I think this stage is worth the £400 although as an international buyer who purposefully limits my collecting space it’s not for me.
I also think this threads well intentioned and the initial post makes good points but I think we have two camps and I don’t think any further debating, explaining or rationalising will change peoples opinions.

I agree on the opinion that the stage is worth $400. It seems to be a great stage and a cool accessory for collectors. As for me. I backed the New Gen Arena. I became a wrestling fan in that time, loved to watch Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and all the others. For me the WCW stage represents a time, when I was almost out of wrestling and therefore the stage simply doesn't give me the vibe to buy. If it had more attractive figures to come along, I might see it different. I would buy the stage with Scott Steiner or DDP included, but Rey Mysterio or Hulk Hogan have been an overdose to us in the last few years!
I do hope and I do believe, that Mattel has high interest in finding a solution to fund the project. They are bringing out a whole line for Monday Night Wars, have major Retailers included in those lines with Ringside and Walmart. It makes sense to push the stage, it will push the ring, it will push the figures!
If they reassess the figures included, I will think about buying again! If it was the RAW stage, I would have backed it already! There is just more of a relationship to me to WWE vs WCW. It's not about the question, if $400 is right or wrong. I do believe, $400 is ok. The product just doesn't meet the demand they needed!

I am sorry but this is not worth $400, i don't even think its worth half that.
I care more about figures than rings and stages, so i may be skewed.
They also should have put scott stiener as the first figure that everyone gets.
You combine that with the fact that we are in a recession and people don't have money to splurge on stuff.
It literally might be cheaper to make this yourself if you already own a 3d printer or have a friend that does. (Minus the figures)

I had a friend that was going to go almost half with me and he get the stage and I the figures, depending on if it all got unlocked or not. But he since backed his own and I don’t think everything will be unlocked so I’ll probably back out, because I’m not paying hundreds for a stage that I could possibly sell later but probably not for what I would want to in order to justify a good price for the figures. like if it came with rey and steiner I would at most want to value them at like $50 each so I would want to sell the stage for like $350 shipped and I just don’t know how that would go lol if that makes sense

I think people are mixing up “worth” and “value”
The stage itself very well may be “valued” at $400 considering the size and all the bells & whistles
however, to many people, it is not “worth” $400
see the difference?

Thats why this crowdfund is dead in the water right now.

It's definitely worth it.
Like someone else said a Lambo is worth it.
But I can't buy the Lambo with a cd player (Rey) I need an upgraded package that includes a gps/mp3 player (Scott) to purchase it.

It’s the difference between “value to me” and “value.” The former is up to the individual, but going by the latter, it’s 100% meeting its value. A play set that size with that many lights and etc. would 100% be around that price in the 2023 retail market.

Thats why this crowdfund is dead in the water right now. There is no way that Mattel or any company could make this stage and a ring and sell it for $400. There’s absolutely no way. You are not willing to spend $400 on it because it seems high to you and that is completely understandable. However, you can’t say that Mattel could possibly charge any less for it. That’s just unrealistic. The recession and all that has nothing to do with this things price. You can say the recession has an impact on people’s ability to purchase it, but it doesn’t change how much they have to charge for it. Anyone that doesn’t understand why they had to arrive at a $400 price point just doesn’t understand how production costs, molds, and limited runs work. And comparing it to a car payment is relative to the person. There are people that spend $300+ on a singular Hot Toys figure or $500 on a Marvel statue. Again, if you think it is too much for you then that’s understandable. But don’t claim that they should be offering even more, especially a ring.

Is it worth that much in America. Sure.
Is it worth that internationally…..?
Is the value there for me personally…..no…the stage had a possibility of collecting dust in the box it came in. Would it be worth it to me with all of the figures included….yes but as many have argued that isn’t the way it works.
I’d love to have the space and much more money than needed to back this but I don’t. Same reason I didn’t get the ring with Kane…I’d have a boxed up Ring and a Kane figure…wasn’t worth it + delivary/customs etc…
I hope it gets backed for all those who want it.

You simply cannot produce 5,000 pieces of this stage and sell it for less than that. Steve said the same himself. You’re letting your own opinion of what you would pay discredit actual facts.

It would cost more than 400 dollars at retail. If it costs 400 to make (including the added amount to turn a profit, I can't see them making this to break even), then once the retail stores purchase it from Mattel (at $400) then those stores are going to up the prices so they can make money too. They are not going to pay Mattel $400 to purchase the thing then turn around and sell it for $400, they'd make no money. You're probably looking at closer to $480 at retail - at the lowest. Same thing with the figures, it doesn't cost $35 to make the UE figures ($24 for elites), it probably costs half of that, maybe a little more. The retail stores are the ones to mark it up so they can make a profit too. So, for Mattel, $400 is what it costs them to be able to make the entrance and the Rey figure (and maybe one more figure if they were able to add a Hogan figure). They wouldn't make any money off of this, and they would probably lose money if they sold the entrance stage and the 5 figures with only 5,000 backers. They need to make at least 11K of these to be able to make enough profit to throw in/include 3 more figures. I’m sure they priced it in such a way that they’ll turn a profit at each and every tier with the profits being higher, the more tiers that are unlocked. If 5000 back and they’re now obligated to make these but in doing so the company loses money, somebody would be getting fired.

I want to make sure my original point in making this thread is clear. It took me a long time to make, so I may have forgotten some of the points I wanted to make.
I’m just looking at the sticker price. I’m not taking into account shipping costs. I understand the overseas shipping is absurdly high for whatever reason. My point is there is no way the stage Mattel is showing us can be made for less than $400 at 5,000 minimum units without taking a bath. If they were running it at 100,000 units maybe they could come down on the price because manufacturers are likely to cut a deal per unit when the production volume is high enough. But this is a limited run item where every piece needs new tooling. But at 5,000 units, Mattel is not going to be getting any volume deals on this thing.
For those of you saying it should cost $200, how? I showed you two stages that were $50 with a fraction of the detail and half the size and were manufactured on a scale to be released in numbers that put it on the shelves of stores all over the world. I think you don’t realize how expensive it is to make a limited run item. Maybe you’re confusing a mass retail product with a boutique item.
I’m not trying to argue whether or not the item has any value TO YOU. I’m trying to argue why the $400 price tag makes logical sense in terms of the cost to produce the item at the volume needed to fund the project. If you don’t want it, don’t back it. If you can’t justify spending that much, that’s a different story. I never said, “This is why you should spend $400 on this.” I said, “This is why I think the price tag is appropriate for the item in question.”
And lastly, I can’t even afford this. I want it, but it’s not feasible for me to buy right now. So I have to pass. But I can still look at that stage, look at the minimum number of orders needed to green light it, look at the price tag, and say, “Yeah, that makes sense.”
