While that could be, the gear design would probably be considered work for hire (and I'd almost guarantee that any made for WWE was a work for hire contract). The grey area of the tattoo design from my understand came from the fact that the artist was doing them as personal tattoo design software the client, then claimed they were in-turn monetized without their consent. The Orton thing was because Yes WWE can put them all over Orton. Figs, games, shirts. He payed the person. What WWE or should I say WWE 2K did was put his tattoos in the create a wrestler suite. So you could put those tattoos on anyone. Which is not what the artist was commissioned for. So in turn the WWE making money off of a perk in a 2k game with the artist getting 0. america in a nutshell

Legit Question: Who would control the Poffo estate? Angelo & his wife are both gone..... Randy "Poffo" Savage didn't have any children.... so Lanny "Genius" Poffo inherited the Savage estate..... According to Wikipedia - Lanny had one daughter - Meghan. So I'd assume (and possibly wrongly assume) that Meghan Poffo would now be controlling the Macho Man estate? How does this stuff work? Macho was married when he passed. From what I understand, his widow, Barbara Lynn Poffo, controls his license. Not sure Lanny ever did. Ahh yes I forgot, he remarried. Okay. Just wondered, thanks!

But the timing makes me think it's not a rights issue with Macho himself but with the designer of the outfit. I don't think WWE would let the deal run out, they're not stupid to loose Macho on a legends deal that they know is cash cow.

Lol at people thinking that small boutique companies had anything to do with this.
Mattel/WWE wouldn't lose something as big as Macho Man's likeness rights to an indie company.
Either their is a contract dispute in terms of royalty percentages, or something isn't up with the attire/figure itself.

The Zombie figure next to the canceled Ultimate is a joke. Zombie will never produce a 6" figure in Mattel's league. They are a professional toy company with the best of everything. Shame. ZST's stuff has been great. I can't wait to see what he does with a 6" line.

As the only person on this board who couldn't care less about this, I'll just say that it's going to be ok, gents. It's not the end of the world.

I donāt think people are giving Zombie enough credit hereā¦heās shown before heās very well informed and ready to pounce should any deals lapse or there may be a small window of opportunity. Hopefully weāll know soon enough what has happened.
I like Zombies product but I hope whatever has happened here, itās gets resolved quickly with Mattel so they can get that Ultimate out.

The licensing confuses me. Zombie can make a WWE attired Macho, but Jazwares couldnāt make WWE Owen, or was it more a case of Owenās family not wanting that version made? This is actually a really good question. Macho Man wore this attire (with a different jacket) in an SWS match with Tenryu on 1st April 1991. They may be using that as āthe attireā which was technically not a strict WWF event.

I don't know why people think Zombie Sailor has anything to do with this, that BCA line has a Macho Man in it too, i don't think that's made by Zombie Sailor correct me if i'm wrong, it could be many things

I would say that they probably could do Owen in a pink and black singlet, but the issue is that the heart/crown emblem and the lions on the thighs with the āKing of Hartsā text are probably all WWE owned designs. Thatās just a guess, and I donāt know how itās different with Bretās logos. Again, just speculation, but maybe Martha wants to focus on his Stampede/Japan days and doesnāt want to invoke the WWF days at all.

And PWTees has been making Brawlers of people in their WWE looks for years. They most recently did a GAB '90 Sting Brawler. They were also selling this shirt, but it was pulled from the website a few days ago. So the Brawler was fine, but not the shirt?

H&F are making a āBoogerā figure using Bastion Boogers attire that he wore in WWF. Who knows how thatās not a violation as WWE owns the gimmick.

All the licensing money went to Ali for The SDCC Exclusive.

I don't mean this as a knock on Zombie, but it's been known for a while that Macho's license was available even while he had a WWE deal (similar to others) thanks to stuff like the Micro Brawlers, the BCA, the MWFP guys talking about how the fee was very expensive when they were trying to make a deal for the Bendie line, etc. So again, not knocking Zombie, but whatever's (if anything) going on with Macho and WWE this is likely less a case of him being in the know/ready pounce and more being willing/able to pay the required licensing fee.

The issue with Jazwares is they could make a WWF Owen Hart, but theyāve decided they donāt want to give WWE any chance to sue them even if the case would not be valid. Itās a decision they and/or AEW have made for themselves only.
At least thatās my understanding of it.

You may be right and I hope so as I want Mattel to get the UE out but a bendy is one thing (like the guys doing Hacksaw) as Mattel arenāt in that marketā¦this would be a first, a company making a figure form of someone under a WWE deal that Mattel are in the market with (Retros). Iām not saying itās impossible but feels unlikely?

Iām still hopeful they will do a black and pink version, it would have to be modified somehow Iām sure but surely thereās a way to do it. Itās his most iconic look and most recognisable for fans, theyād sell far more figures and that would be great for the foundation as well for all his fans who want to honour him. Iād bet he wore pink and black gear in a non wwe event, perhaps for stampede or something whilst he may have been under a wwe contract, they did the odd appearance for other companies.
