WM 17 is still the GOAT WM in my view. Everything on the card was must see, even the couple squash matches severed their purpose given the stories they told. Top to bottom, greatest card ever.
As far as the ending goes, Austin turning heel was fine. It was shocking, nobody saw it coming, and it became a huge taking point after the show. Austin’s heel run is what didn’t work.

I don't blame Austin for it. Sure in hindsight it was wrong, but I agree he was getting stale. However not as stale as he would become in 2002. And he was still the most over act on the card in 02. All Austin needed was fresh scenarios to run in 01 & Vince failed to plan far enough ahead & develop his heel field for that. But even at that? Angle vs Austin post WM would have been fresh |

A great Mania and one of the best but I've never understood why many think it's the best ever and I'll die on that hill.

Its now seen as the end of the good Times & kind of bittersweet. Ratings & buy rates would steadily decline after this & never recover. Hated the rest with a passion...I really did Austins comedy was on fire lol, singing with Rock, petition etc. He had many bangers with Angle,Benoit,RVD, Jericho etc I gotta rewatch it again cos I must be missing some promos,segments, matches etc. |
