People also tend to forget that the economy changed drastically between when the Nitro stage was shown and when the Crowdfund was announced. People were a lot more liberal then with their money and it probably would have been funded had it been done then, but times have changed considerably. It also didn't help that in the middle of the crowd fund Mattel dropped a MOTU play set comparable in size for a fraction of the price which made the stage look very over priced. 100% agree. spending habits changed as the world opened back up, and we’ve all got different things to spend money on, and that’s before we even consider that most of us have a little (or a lot) less money now with cost of living. Another factor is reissues. I’m convince Mattel scarred off the multi buyers (those who purchased 2,3 or more of the new Gen) because of the reissue approach. My own personal opinion is I think it’s continuing to hurt the line overall, but what do I know… lol. As someone who owns multiple New Gen sets I'm not really worried about reissues and I personally don't think the reissues hurt the line too badly. They've only really redone older figures (with the exception of the GH UEs which even I think is a bit much outside of the original Shawn/Brock run that never hit stores) that a lot of collectors who got into the game later one would have missed or figures that never got released properly like Harley, Nada, L10 DDP, etc. They may one day do a UE Diesel but I think it'll be a different look, but If they make a UE Doink again I'll be floored lol.

Honestly, my wishes for crowdfunds wouldn't even involve a set.
The only reason the New Gen one got funded was they added Macho at the end. The desperation to fund the Nitro one involved them shifting the tiers around to so that the best figures would come first. There are people who care about the sets, sure, but really the driving thing is the figures included. Mattel has vowed that the figures from the first crowdfund will never be rereleased. I think they'll stick to that. But the big issues are that A. Not a ton of people have the space for arena setups in their homes and B. Not a lot of people in today's economy have the money to shell out the money for a massive crowdfund like the Nitro Stage.
Ringside is already charging 100 bucks for an exclusive 3 pack of Foley elites. How much do you think Mattel would be willing to drop the price on a crowdfund that included multiple UEs plus a set and, more importantly, how many people would be wiling to buy them?
That Macho figure was special. It had never been released before and was promised to never be released again. That was the ONLY way to get WM X Macho. So people flocked to buy it.
But did anyone ever think that Mattel wasn't going to make other, better Scott Steiner figures? I know I sure didn't.
Really, what I'm getting at is yeah, the selling point of these crowdfunders is the figures they contain, so why not make it the focus. If you're going to make a set, make it something small but special, like an ECW set, then load it with figures you can't get elsewhere. Make that Ultimate Edition Paul Heyman. Give us an ultimate edition Cactus Jack. Make sure Terry Funk's estate is cleared for a merch deal and give us one of him too. How about an Ultimate Edition ECW RVD? Or, find a way to sign someone we don't have yet to one of those legacy deals that allows for merch to be made but doesn't require TV appearances. I know Sabu is with AEW and Dreamer is with Impact, but could you imagine an UE Sandman?
There is a way to make this work, but it can't be via 500 dollar stages that take up half a room and can't be shipped internationally. As nice as it would be to have that Raw or Smackdown stage, it's never gonna happen and, if it does, it's never going to get funded.
You gotta find a way to make the crowdfunds both special, accessible, and worthwhile to everyone. And yes, that "everyone" very much includes people who are going to purchase 20 units exclusively to part out the figures at a massive markup.
After all.
That's a big reason the first one happened.
Oh, and I mentioned my wishes?
My dream set for a crowdfunder hasn't changed for a year now and it probably never will, even though we've already sort of gotten two of the figures from it.
Ultimate Edition 6 pack of The Bloodline. Shiny belts for all, including the new Butterscotch belt and North American title. Fix the Usos. No really, FIX THE USOS. Make the body types accurate, I don't want to see a skinny Solo or a roided up Roman anywhere near it. Unique headsculpts for all including happy muppet grin Sami with both Honoary Uce and Feelin' Ucey shirts. They're already releasing a Bloodline Roman ultimate in ring gear, give us a Tribal Chief in street clothes. Give Solo his sleeveless hoodie. Give Jey his hoodie crop top. And, if you need a stretch goal? Include a Kevin Owens (first goal), a Drew McIntyre (second goal) and flashback 2-Pack of the Wild Samoans in their black and red attire that would match the rest of the set (third goal).
If you need a set to include with it, give us the Bloodline Lounge. It doesn't have to be anything major, just a couch, a TV, a pair of Cell phones (Paul needs to definitely come with a cell phone), a table, and that stupid stack of glowing water bottles Roman always had in the background
This. This would be my dream come true. And I would find some way to make it happen even if I had to take out a whole a** line of credit to make it happen.
