It's what I don't enjoy about toy collecting. Have you found yourself in this position before? When there are too many figures that you want all being released at the same time, and you find yourself preoccupied and trying to strategise how you will be able to get them. The Legends Greatest Hits figures are out now, and im also interested in getting the complete Survivor Series set Mint on Card but im also trying to keeping an eye out for the Roddy Piper/George The Animal Steele Coliseum Collection pre order. It's difficult to describe and I can't really get my head around it but it's not an enjoyable feeling, it feels more like a race because they are only in stock for a certain amount of time.

Yup. I started missing out on some of the stuff I wanted and now I skip stuff I want on purpose.

Yes but not with wrestling figs, as I just restarted an Attitude Era Ultimate Edition only collection. Very easy to keep up lol.
Collecting GI Joe Classified however...

I thought that Smyth's would get the Survivor Series set so I was in no hurry and was going to play the long game until the prices dropped especially for the Shawn Michaels figure. But they aren't getting Survivor Series it seems. There was a loophole with this Legends Elite deal. It hasn't really helped UK collectors, it has just taken other sets off the table that we were used to get in its place. So when I learned that they probably aren't getting the Legends Greatest Hits series either I will have to get whatever offer I can get online and so I have to speed through both sets instead of going at a leisurely pace like I expected to.
An issue that I have had recently is that once I get a new figure, I don't appreciate it for more than an hour before im putting it away and thinking about the next figure and the next set to make the overall collection feel more completed.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, buddy. I collect golden era only, with the exception of a Stonecold Steve Austin, the Rock, the household names. And in the case of the Survivor Series set, I want the Shawn Michaels, simply because I attended that event. I'm glad there isn't much to collect in the next few elite series. Saves me a lot of money.

I've found what helps with that is displaying the figure so you can see it. If it sits in the bin out of sight it's kinda meh. But yeah, I find sometimes the hunt is more fun than the end result of owning the figure.

I feel this a bunch. Money has been tight lately, so much so that I can't keep up with bills let along figures. I'm holding out hope that I can snag some of my needed fills off RSC for the holiday season but I'm falling so far behind because I just can't afford the figures I want at the current prices.
Back when Elites were 21 bucks and Ultimates were 30 at preorder, I could afford them, not so much anymore. I wanted to preorder all of Elite 106 and most of Elite 107, but I just can't afford it. And I never did get ahold of RA Torrie. I'm terrified I'm gonna start missing out on figures I need for my collection and be in a Toxic Attraction situation again where it's only sheer dumb luck that I manage to score them, if I ever do.

Yes I know what you mean. This is where I don't agree with people like Mr "gotta get a deal"! When you are relying on figures to be put at a lower price to have a chance to be able to get them, someone like him takes this off the table just because he came across it first and the price was too good to pass up on even though he already has six of them. I don't see the purpose of getting six of the same figures just because you "gotta get a deal" and then going online to showcase it just because you need to fill up five seconds of content.

It hasn't happened to me in a few years, but I know the feeling. Honestly, it just make me prioritize more what I'm collecting and what I want. In the end, I just ended up buying significantly less figures.

Sort of. I used to be like this until like a year and a half ago and realized that some purchases were impulse buys. Now, with the lack of talent and just less interest in collecting overall, I've come to the conclusion that I needed to be a bit wiser with my spending. I just focus on collecting figures that mean something to me. It makes easier for me to figure out what I want and not have to fork over my collection for a fraction of the cost and collect dust on my shelf. I also believe we're in a period where we've gotten most talent in terms of Legends done without new signings, so that might slow things down a bit for those who like retro guys. A few years back, I was excited to get the main roster and Legends, but now just strictly Monday Night Wars and favorite wrestlers. I have no interest or remember 98% of the current generic roster.

You are not alone. Mattel have been releasing a crazy amount of figures. There is a steady flow. What i would say is that its a marathon, not a sprint. There will be figures you want now but cannot afford. But they are out there now. So if its something you really want just hang tight.
My personal situation at the moment means i am struggling to find the money to buy stuff that i really want, but yesterday i had a bit of spare money (finally) so i managed to order ultimate edition razor and headshrinker legends. They have been out for ages but the main thing is....they are going to be out there now. Weather the storm and wait for the sun to come out.
If you build it....they will come.

Yup. I started missing out on some of the stuff I wanted and now I skip stuff I want on purpose. Why is that? prices increases, poor availability of product at retail aka walmart, recession, inflation, fuel price increases I think that about covers it right ? Oh and the wwe mattel team totally oblivious to all the things i mentioned before.

As far as retail goes, I'm all caught up. Waiting for that BF/Cyber sale to catch up on some online exclusive and maybe more.

I'm the opposite. My interest in wrestling figures has gone down tremendously over the past couple of years and I'm barely buying anything any more.

The iffy AEW distribution caused me to get behind on the AEW collection. With mattel putting out a lot of heavy hitters this year I’ve mostly caught up but am still missing a few things i was never able to see at retail like Chase 100 Andre. It’s also caused me to rethink my rules for collecting. Unfortunately figures that are “sought” after i tend to add to my wants instead of letting them fall through the cracks just in case so i end up missing out on some things i do end up really wanting. I’ve also had some bad luck with broken ultimates lately and replacing figures is never fun.
The hobby is slightly draining but the thrill of it all outweighs the negatives still, for me at least.

This except that mattel releasing things at a rapid pace is best since wrestling is probably the hottest entity right now. At least this way when it stops we can't say that they didn't try. As long as the quality stays high. The price point in the end is causing us all to hesitate when we see these figures in the wild. The problem with the exclusives is that they don't end up at ollies so when they are gone they are gone. In short buy it if you see it or regret it afterwards

Maybe write a list as this has helped me. I certainly avoid just going to the store regularly to check as more often than not, I leave with something that while I may be happy in that moment, I did not necessarily need that figure or want it prior to me seeing it. All order & preorders I never feel bad about as its not random. I recently stopped searching through Target endlessly unless I am searching for something specific. So for last week, it was an intentional Target trip to secure the Legends Greatest Hits. I do see 105 is popping up but honestly I am not into that set nor do I truly want anything BUT if I were to go in the store & see them, I'd need up leaving with something.
Like I said, a list reminding you of what you actually want is helpful. Collecting is strange.........

I mainly find myself in that position when I plan on buying items at retail..... and then never see them.
Next thing I know, they're nowhere to be found & costing double to track down.
These days if it's something I REALLY want, I just order it.

In short buy it if you see it or regret it afterwards The quality has slipped though with Mattel. Prices are sky high and colors are off or wrong torsos are used. (see Solos original figure or Codys Ultimate or Jimmy Uso always being Jey's scan) They still make a nice product 65% of the time but they're slowly becoming Jakks. Rush product to market cause they know it will sell but it's far from perfect then they do an update that is right so we will buy that as well. I know it's on us for buying the original crap but thats the sickness of collecting.
