Lately I got really big into the 1986 - 1988 era of WWF. It was such a fun time in wrestling. The magic that was that era can never be duplicated.
Same with the Attitude Era/Monday Night War era for wrestling. Just lightning in a bottle for those types of eras.

No, you wouldn't.
The wrestlers look like twigs now, no muscle definition, and do ridiculous spots constantly. No territory system could save that, because in a way, territory systems are still out there. Every state in the USA and every province in Canada has a wrestling promotion in it. It's just the same type of wrestler is always in those promotions now.
The 70s and 80s was just a different time period. A simple move like a piledriver could bring the fans to their feet in Memphis. Now?? Orange Cassidy and Penta exchanged Canadian Destroyer one after another onto each other as the fans went nuts. Thus killing the specialty of that move that Petey Williams created with it back in 2004 for TNA.
The good ol' days are called that for a reason.

Who? But what I meant with my comment was if wrestling had personalities like the ones from those days and feuds that instantly hooked you like Hogan/Andre,Flair/Funk,Von Erichs/Freebirds etc. I would be still watching today. But anyway I'm glad I grew up on the classic days. Simpler time in my life thats for sure. Great memories

I agree man, it was the characters that we all gravitated to back in the 80s and 90s. They were sent out there to sink or swim on their own and as a result we got amazing characters that felt unique and like individuals who were not just reading a script?
Imagine if people like Randy Savage or a Stone Cold Steve Austin had every word they said pre wrote for them! We would have missed out on truly iconic characters.
There is was more charm and personality in a one hour episode of Superstars, Challenge or even RAW than the three hour slog they expect us to ensure today.
I do not hate modern wrestling, but I far, far prefer what it was.
Things change, I get that, but it doesn't always mean that for every person the change will be for the good.

I try watching the new stuff and tune out after 10 minutes. It's so sterile. There's no selling, no art, the fans try to take over the shows.
It's just blah

I watch the current product from time to time, and the art of wrestling is dead. No one really sells anything, they do these unbelievable spots that don’t pin anyone, but a simple move gets them the win. But I’m also glad you mentioned the fans, it’s one of the main things that have ruined the last decade plus of wrestling. They try to take over the show way to0 much with their chanting. They no longer want to play along, they want to determine everything that happens, that’s hard for any company to plan for. Not to mention the fact that they have killed the old “this is awesome” chant. They chant that crapnow when two guys are just starring at each other in the ring. I’ve watched countless matches that were fine, even some that were poor, and they still chant it’s awesome. I hate to say it sometimes, but fans have ruined wrestling as much as those flippy/no selling/high spot wrestlers. The Brain also had it right as well, none of these wrestlers today have a fraction of the charisma/character development that the old wrestlers had. They are all bland/boring. And, is it too much to ask these guys to go to the gym and work out a bit? They all look so tiny, or have very little muscle. They don’t look like they could kick anyones ass. It also doesn’t help that a lot of them are really short, a number of the wrestlers are shorter than the announcers and referees. Also, I just started noticing this, but a lot of the newer wrestlers don’t sweat anymore. Are their matches so easy that they don’t even break a sweat. It’s just weird, visually, that these guys and girls are engaged in a fight but they don’t even sweat. Do all wrestlers today get their sweat glands removed like Bruce Lee did?

They probably don't sweat anymore because they don't eat meat or go to the bar after shows and drink the night away.
The wrestlers in the 80s and 90s would work out hard, eat a lot of meat and protein to remain big, and drink at the bar for hours so they would sweat it all out in the match.
Warlord just said in a shoot that Nikolai Volkoff would add garlic to everything he ate so he would sweat garlic smell in the ring ha ha ha
The new age of wrestlers only care about putting on spots for the fans that love it, going back to their hotel room and going on Twitch and streaming a video game they are playing. No need to drink, cheat on their wives, get in bar fights or work out! Got to do online gaming with a stream for the fans!
I grew up with Eric Young, and I talked to EY when he signed with the WWE back in 2016, and he said, "I asked Triple H, "where are all the rowdy, coked up, ready to party wrestlers at for me to go out with after the show??" And Triple H laughed and said, "they are too busy playing video games."
From what I heard, TNA wrestling from 2002 - 2010 was the last real promotion that did the party scene after their PPVs or TV taping. WWE wrestlers just wanna play those video games! As does AEW guys now with guys like Omega, Cole, Bucks, and such being there.

Really? Vegans don’t sweat… never knew that. I knew wrestlers weren’t the partiers they use to be, but I’d figured they still drank and are normally. It’s just very odd looking, someone doing something athletic and not sweating. It’s looks like they’re aren’t putting in much effort.

This is what I grew up with before we got cable. Such a simple time. No pyro, no theme music, no backstage cameras, no barricades between the fans & the ring, no scripted promos.

The only 3 wrestlers I can think of who sweat like crazy still in a WWE ring are Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman. All are big, muscular men who no doubt eat a lot of red meat to keep their protein up and their muscles big.
I am sure that a lot of how much sweats can be attributed to what food - and how much of it - they put into their bodies.

was just thinking how blessed i was seeing wrestling from 1985 to mid-2000's as it happened. waht a ride it was.
same with ufc/nhb/mma/pride all of it. started watching from 1994 UFC 2 and still watch that today but not as much as mma has also changed and got boring for the most part. .
