I always had this Rumble as one of my favourites from the early 90s. I actually enjoyed it more than the 1992 one by just a hair.
Things that I noticed about this Rumble when watching it back again...
- All the high fives between heel teams - The pop the LOD got when they clothesline Undertaker out of the Rumble - How Undertaker sold Kerry Von Erich's punches so well as if showing Kerry had the best punches in the WWF at the time and even a dead man could feel that wrath - How over the British Bulldog was with the cheers when eliminating Mr. Perfect, Haku and Rick Martel near the end - Hulk Hogan was the man, simple as that. He got cheered non stop in that match - Bushwhacker Luke never missing a step when it came to walking in and going over the top rope and walking back
A fun Royal Rumble match, and the card itself is great. Rockers vs. Orient Express, a WWF Title change between Slaughter and Warrior, plus the last WWF match we see of Dusty Rhodes, and the Virgil face turn.
Anyone else enjoy this Royal Rumble event??

Yep, one of my all-time favorite Rumbles as well. I just watched this one recently, and it still holds up. I think the Royal Rumble matches of 1992 and 1990 were better than this one, but this was still a really good one. I think this one had a better undercard (regular matches) than the 1990 and 1992 Rumble PPVs. The Rockers/Orient Express match was fantastic, probably the best opening match in Rumble PPV history, and one of the best overall regular matches in Rumble history as well. The Boss Man/Barbarian match was good. So too was the Rhodes vs. DiBiase/Virgil match. Plus, with that match, the story of Virgil turning babyface was excellent. Virgil got a huge pop when he hit DiBiase with the Million $ Belt, a defining moment for him. The Warrior/Slaughter match was also really good, and the added interference of Macho King and Sherri was great. The Mountie/Koko match was not good, the audience didn't seem to care anything about that one.
For this Rumble match, like the 1990 and 1992 matches, it was well balanced. You had stars throughout the match, never having too many stars at one point in the match so that other points had none. At the beginning of the match, you had Bret, Jake, Model, and the Texas Tornado. In the middle of the match, you had Taker, LOD, Demolition and Davey Boy Smith. Then at the end, you still had Davey Boy, but you also got Hogan, Perfect, Hacksaw and the Earthquake. They did a good job continuing feuds here, and even setting up new ones. The only problem with this Rumble is that the Macho King wasn't in hit. I would have let Savage be the final entrant or #29 (move Warlord to his #18 spot), then let him, Earthquake and Hogan be the final three in the ring (with Davey Boy rounding out the final four), then have Warrior come to the ring, eliminate and chase Savage from the building.
Overall a really good PPV.

great event as a whole
like mach says the undercard was pretty awesome. i love warrior/sgt match. one of warriors best matches even tho he loses
the rumble itself was only pretty good to me. i liked the previous 2 MUCH more, but its still good
i also wish macho king was actually in the rumble and made it to the end

I liked their other match that had on SNME in April of 1991.

This is my favourite Rumble match and probably my favourite PPV of all time.
Rockers Vs Orient Express is my favourite opening match of all time. All of the matches had a story and were fun
The actual Rumble was awesome! I was cheering so hard for Texas Tornado to win it and was sure he had a legit chance! Martel surviving for so long was fun and I thought The final three with Hogan, Knobs and Earthquake was great. Hearing Gorilla rip on Quake for trying to pin Hogan was fun stuff.
I also loved Piper on commentary and this Rumble has the best classic Rumble intro out of them all.
Just a great show from start to end.

Very good show. My 3rd fav Rumble match. Loved how Hammer/Martel had a good long run in there
Warrior/Sarge was all about the story and it excelled in spades. Great way to get the belt off of em and get that feud with Mach really heated up for Mania
Awesome opener in Rockers/OE. Best one in Rumble history in my book
Virgil with the GREAT baby turn and man the crowd was HOT for it. Good stuff
Boss Man/Barb was a good big man match here and a nice way to keep his momentum going in the feud with the Heenan Family
And good way to get Mountie and his new character over with the win over Koko
And yes I also enjoyed Gorilla/Piper in the booth. Hot Rod going nuts on Sarge winning the belt was fantastic. Sold to perfection

Bulldog was so over in this period

I loved the 91 Rumble. I'd say 90 & 92 was much better, but 91 will always be a real classic.

Or am I thinking about another wrestler who had a long run in the match.

"We sent someone in to get him out because he thought he was going to win it."

At that time, usually it was just one going long.

LOD being the guys to step up and take UT out was massive. I remember marking like crazy for that and copying it about 50 times with my Hasbros...sometimes Andre, Gonzales or Yoko would be in the UT role LOL

Also, gotta mention how great Bobby Heenan was when walking behind Mr. Perfect, to not notice Perfect tossed up his towel and Bobby realized it at the last second caught it behind his own back. Very impressive!
