I just saw this post on my Facebook that came up in the newsfeed showing Mark Henry's accomplishments in the WWE. World Champion, European Champion, ECW Champion and Hall of Fame. Then I read the comments....
"He deserved much more. Very underrated performer."
"Great monster wrestler. Loved when Mark Henry came to the ring."
"Not many accolades but he made an amazing impact. One of my favourites."
"I mean very good wrestlers have very few title runs."
"He should have had more."
"Man imo he deserved better sheesh."
"Wish he could of gotten more he was amazing deserves better."
Talk about blinders on the ol' eyes when thinking back about Mark Henry!
This is in no way to be a mean diss to Mark Henry, but honestly, how many of us say to ourselves, "I could really go for a Mark Henry match right now?!"
I think these fans are forgetting the 1996 - 2002 era of Mark Henry, which was God awful.
They forget all the times he was injured over the years, or injured his opponents.
Sure, the "Hall of Pain" was cool, but remember how it all got started?? By an inside rib by Vince and the crew to put Mark in the ring and have him wait for his opponent who wasn't even coming out.
I just don't understand wrestling fans who all of a sudden say a wrestler was great because they are retired or unfortunately who have passed away. The best example is now on WWE TV when John Cena shows up and fans go nuts. They hated him for years there, and booed him mercifully, but now we love him?!
Just the whole Mark Henry thing today really proved to me that a majority of wrestling fans are just really weird when it comes to remembering a wrestler and what they did.
I know for a fact when Mark Henry came on my TV, it was usually meant for me to make food, go to the bathroom, or change the channel. These fans though, apparently they couldn't get enough of Mark Henry and loved every single thing he did! Ha ha ha

I'll just speak for myself, Henry's career was underwhelming at the very best. Henry has admitted himself he didn't apply the focus in his youth necessary to constantly improve and grow into a top star. I was shocked he was re-signed in the 00's because of his injuries and a whole lot of time scrounging in the undercard. Even thru the highs that did occur in the back half, his matches left a lot to be desired.
That being said, dude did know how to leave an impression. Once he found the persona to fit his domineering physical presence, Mark did finally feel like a true threat. His love for the business can't be thrown away, and that came out in his World Title runs.
Just as a note, people are F I C K L E

Exactly! People just liked the fake retirement speech/HOP guess they forget the other 90% of his career was unentertaining/forgettable.

I never found him entertaining at all and it was funny how he got rave reviews for his retirement speech which was really a setup to attack John Cena but when he retired for real, his final 2 matches were the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 33 and Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia where he went out with a whimper.

Wow! You know what?! You are right!! I just went back and watched his entire career, and wow... what a treat that was!
His match with Val Venis on Smackdown?? 5 stars!!
His match with Chris Benoit on Raw?! Amazing! Mark Henry was the real technical wrestler out of the two.
Mark Henry should have been a 35 time WWE World Champion, honestly.
Phew... thanks for making me realize all this. I guess I better delete my post now!

he wasnt one of my favs, but always enjoyed when he went against other strong guys like shamrock, lesnar, etc. they were better wrestlers and higher on the pecking order but had trouble with strongman henry
his sexual choclate stuff was hilarious tho. and his date with chyna lol
he got more titles than many guys who deserved one in the 80's-early 90's, so im good with his accomplishments

This is my opinion on Mark Henry.
Nation Henry. Awesome and had some good matches with guys like Shamrock.
Sexual Chocolate. Downright hilarious and I enjoyed his tag team with D'lo and stuff with Chyna.
02 Henry. We were in a new era and it was cool to see a mid carder from the Attitude Era back in the ring.
03 Henry. His alliance with Teddy Long and Rodney Mack was cool and it was strange seeing him in the ring with the likes of Goldberg & Michaels.
05 Henry. Downright sucked and way over pushed. He was injuring people including himself and I couldn't stand any of his matches.
I didn't mind his ECW run with Atlas but he always felt out of place in the main event.

You know what's worse than the Mark Henry/Mae Young angle?
His poetry.

The sexual chocolate stuff was hilarious l, but I was a teenager so I was the right demographic for it.
I was never a fan of his, he was boring as hell in the ring and once at a house show I was attending the main event got cut short cause he hurt Kurt Angles ribs.
I know we all like different wrestlers, but he's one I just could never imagine anyone saying let's have a Mark Henry matches marathon.
He had a long and profitable career based on his look and you cannot hate on the guy for that. However, for me, he was a real channel changer go get a snack guy for most of his career.

First off there’s no such thing as “star matches” ratings that’s just in Meltzer’s head. It’s all opinion. Either you like the matches or you don’t. I am sure my three All-Time favorite matches wouldn’t rank high on his ratings. But I have been enjoying them multiple times a year for decades. Most of the so called 5* matches he’s come out and rated I watched once and never felt the need to rewatch them again. So that means absolutely nothing to me because people have different tastes and opinions.
Now as for Mark Henry. I think he had a very good career. Were there things I found stupid or boring? Sure there were. Were there things I found entertaining? Yes there were. But the one constant to me was he always looked like a formidable threat in his matches.

I liked Mark Henry, but didn’t find him exciting. I found the Sexual Chocolate stuff amusing and when he moved up the card later in his career, I was pleased for him and I enjoyed the Hall of Pain stuff and the retirement act.
Despite all that, I wouldn’t have started making sensationalist comments about him.

A very late-bloomer who was able to put together a solid resume of accolades on the backend of his career.
Before he resurfaced in 2006, you could argue that Mark Henry was one of the biggest flops ever. They rolled out the red carpet for him with a huge guaranteed contract in 1996 and outside of a few funny moments with the Sexual Chocolate character, it would be hard to argue that he had been a major disappointment. He bounced down to developmental a few times during that era and seemed like a lost cause, but give the man credit because he kept at it.
Seems like a very sweet, genuine guy in really life as well so hard not to be happy for him
