How hard is it to match our existing New Gen packaging? I can imagine the meeting at Mattel… “So does everyone agree we go for the New Gen logo on the side of the packaging to match Doink, Diesel, Macho and Bret?” “Yeah, but let’s really piss MOC collectors off and go with the inverted white box. They’ll love that it doesn’t match.” “Yes, great idea.” FFS EDIT. A lot of people are asking why MOC collectors display like a book. I would love to display front on showing the figure but I just don’t have the space. I would love a massive toy collection room but in reality I’m limited to three Billy bookcases. I usually do a rotation and show off certain figures when I get bored. Just because they’re displayed like this, doesn’t mean I don’t like to get them out and have a good look/enjoy them.    photo chibi maker |

I see it from that standpoint - but I like that the colour scheme was inverted. It makes the crowdfund UE's more unique, as they should be.

Ehh a bit dramatic but I will admit Mattel is very inconsistent with packaging. Which is why I don't bother collecting MOC.

I'm more concerned with them changing the pegs on ultimates so that torso swaps can't be simple anymore

Yeah a bit of a mess strategy wise. I’ve lost track with what they’re doing with greatest hits now.
I’ve seen three versions of Blue Batista now:
White box with white card
Red box with red card
White box with red card.
At this point, your best bet is not to Collect MOC!

I don’t understand why people display just the spine of the box. Whats the point of buying a $35+ figure with extra articulation and accessories if you’re not even gonna show off that figure? Or do y’all take the figure out of the packaging and still wanna display the box on a bookshelf?

Look, I don't want to knock anyone's style of collecting, but can someone who does collect MOC explain the draw to displaying only the side graphics of these? I collect some MOC, but that's because I enjoy the presentation of the figure in the box. I don't understand why people would only show the sides. Wouldn't it save money to just print out a picture or something?

For me, with many UEs, I line them up so at least the figure is shown if I can't show off the entire figure and its contents. |

After collecting these things for years, there is soooo much that you just run out of room. I have some of my AUTOGRAPHED Jakks stuff sideways on the shelf, I hate it but there's just not enough room. Maybe when I get a bigger house, LOL. The OP raises valid gripe about Mattel's stuff though, the packaging is always very inconsistent. One of the things JAKKS did better, IMO. Their packaging stayed very consistent through their whole WWE contract. Mattel is all over the board with packaging. It's a minor gripe..... but it's a valid one. |

I was asking do you still enjoy them sideways. I understand the sacrifice of putting them sideways but for me, if I can't enjoy something, I don't really want it. I don't collect to be a completionist. So buying figures that you have no room to display. Is that strictly a FOMO thing in the hopes that you do have more space to display them someday? Is it comforting to know you have them even though you can't see them? I understand the 'why' as to why they are sideways, I think it's more not understanding the enjoyment of collecting figures that you no longer have room for and can't display. |
