I personally think they’ve gotten out of control. Theres, what, 5 lines right now dedicated to re-releases, Greatest Hits, Legends GH, UE GH, Fron the Vault, and Best of Monday Night Wars, yet they’re still dropping a lot of them in the main lines as well. Plus there’s quite a few where hardly any time has passed since the figure originally came out and it’s already getting another release. I am not opposed to re-releases. I think some are needed. SES Punk is a great example of a fig that desperately needed to be put back out. That said, figures like WMX8 Hulk and WM27 Trish seem unnecessary. Exactly this. Sorry to say it feels like a cash grab by Mattel. I didn't feel that way at first (Elite GH 1 was awesome), but like you said, they're literally re-releasing figures from less than a year ago, and they have so many lines now I can't keep up at all. I fell so far behind in the past year that I pretty much gave up on most Elite lines. I'll stick with exclusives and UEs.

I like it, but as others have said, it's gotten out of control. Outside of the Elite line, it feels like we're getting more rereleased figures than we are new ones.

Yeah, but I feel like we're still getting as many new ones as we were before. From what it feels like to me, they're making exponentially more product now than they ever have, and while these are a big part of that, I don't feel that the rereleses are in any way impacting the release volume or schedule of the main line figures. Just my thoughts though

I’m all for rereleasing older figures with newer features (true f/x, pinless arms,…). I don’t like that some rereleases have been recent figures that were already easy to find. Packaging also plays a part in value for those concerned with that. The originals MOC should still hold some value.

Do it. Technically, speaking there is still a difference.
I collect records and have a collection worth over $10,000. Some of them get re-issued. That is totally fine as the original just goes up in value. So even in wrestling figures, while the value may not go up, I think that is just simply because there’s not as much value in this market. But from a collector standpoint, I would imagine it would be cool knowing one has the first addition of something. Personally would buy the first edition and when the release comes out, get that too as that’s generally how I operate.
Releases are fine monitored by gatekeepers hoping to make a pretty penny. That’s not collecting.

That’s not collecting. While first editions/releases are usually more valuable, for wrestling figure collectors it is the best looking version. Therefore i believe these latest re-releases with true f/x features and articulation will ultimately hold the most value. The recent packaging however.... the exceptions ofcourse are limited edition jakks figures, mail away hasbros, convention exclusives and wrestlers that never get rereleased (like akeem perhaps).

It’s good business and good for collectors imo.

I make selective investments in certain figures, so when really valuable ones get re-released it somewhat affects the value of the originals. Though for MOC figures, you can never completely re-released them, but if it's for loose collectors, there's not much of a difference.

Great for new collectors and folks who missed out. I buy some, but not all. I don't care about anyone's grails, resale value, feelings, etc. These are toys. Who cares if you can't sell your old RSC exclusive for as much on ebay. I'd rather me and thousands of others have a shot at a figure to add to our collections. If you're investing in toys and getting mad that a re-release affects your value then I have 0 sympathy for you. All investments carry risk, so re-released are just a part of that. It's justifiable to be upset if your investment value drops, who wouldn't be?

I appreciate the fact that also, most of these Vault, Greatest Hits etc have had some differences, even different heads or attires in a couple cases, so they definitely don't affect any value of the originals.

The question here isn't if you would get mad about an investment losing value, it's why in the hey are you investing in post-2000's mass produced wrestling figures. If you are buying things like those insanely-rare Warriors or maybe the SDCC figures which *might* make sense as investments, then you're safe. It appears that they are never re-releasing any of those. But if you are buying anything else in this line as investments, then the question here is why? Why not just collect coins or something if you want to have a hobby that you can make money from? Modern 'toy' line action figures, by in large, are not meant to be investments. Hell, even the true collectible lines like MAFEX aren't necessarily investment lines. You're paying for pretty things to sit on your shelf, pose around, and fight like hell to keep from getting encrusted with dust. You want investments on modern toys. I agree with above. Get them signed. Those will almost certainly maintain value, barring the wrestler doing something abominable. That's the way to go if you want investments. Autographs, exclusives, and limited runs. Anything else, you should know what you are getting into. They're meant to be taken out of box and enjoyed. Nobody cares about the "investment" value of those, least of all Mattel.

Like you said - if people took the risk and bought and collected for that reason - there was always a risk the price or demand would go down one way or another. This is just another way.

As a new collector, I think it is great to see a lot of old figures getting re released for reasonable prices

My only issue is that initially it seemed like they were going to do this every so often but it’s become a subline basically. Too many waves of GH figures too quickly. The fact that some are store exclusive also doesn’t help. Maybe quarterly GH releases on creations would feel better?

Anything else, you should know what you are getting into. They're meant to be taken out of box and enjoyed. Nobody cares about the "investment" value of those, least of all Mattel. I've made a lot of money buying a couple extra exclusives here and there, believe me "I know what I get myself into". I've never been a scalper. I understand rereleased are always on the table, it's part of any production. Figures are really hard to acquire at a decent price. They're all but impossible to find at retail, there's high markup on RSC for any new or desirable figures, and you have to be lucky to find a drop on Amazon. Obviously there is a market if you're talking to me on a wrestling toy forum. Lots of people move in and out of the hobby and on the MOC side, there is value in scarcity of condition as like you said most figures are opened. I collect lots of other segments of wrestling. I've really stopped buying figures the last several years mainly because they take up so much space and are expensive to ship. To answer why you would invest? Obviously there are figures going for multiple times their original value at any given point. No matter the investment it's all about timing. Talent returns, releases, title wins, popularity waxes and wanes and that is usually reflected with demand for figures, autographs, any sort of merch. So I don't understand why you're stigmatizing collecting or casually investing in action figures when it's what some of us know and understand better than most any other markets. It's simply combining a hobby or passion and working it to your advantage, the same way people can invest or bet on sports. A rerelease is like a when a player gets hurt, or loses a game. Even when rereleased affect original figures, MOC ones are almost always impossible to fully replicate, so true collectors will know their value. I think this is pretty straight forward, maybe you're just being a hater? It's not that serious.

I'm kind of torn on them. On one hand, it's good to get second chances at figures that are now too expensive, especially with some of the updated technology. It's also good for them to put out figures that had issues on the first release (King Harley Race being too hard to find, the Hollywood Hogan figure missing his tan, Survivor Series Hogan with the horrible face sculpt, etc.)
On the other hand, some of these don't really need to be re-released, at least not in the exact same attire. For instance, was anyone really clamoring for those exact same attires for the Natural Disasters? Why not just release the Natural Disasters again but in a different attire? Warlord too. Pretty much every wrestler wore a handful of different attires, why not get out another version of them in a different attire?
