Newest example of why Mattel / RSC should think about all these re releases.
I missed out on the pre order for Defining Moments Punk. Not sure why, guess funds, timing, etc. Anyway over last couple of weeks I WAS seriously considering ordering the set, because I want RVD too. Do not want Kane or Knight, but also didn’t want this to be a bruised Cody DM situation
Well now that he’s already getting rereleased in another line, no way I’ll buy that current DM set. I’m patient enough. I can wait
There’s good and there’s bad in re releases. Releasing pretty new figures again, I just don’t think is a good strategy

Good to re-release figs I don't have and bad to re-release ones I already own.

At this point, I just don’t care as much because I’ve sold off most of my collection. It is annoying though if you paid a lot of money for a figure you really wanted. I just expect the rereleases to be better, which at times there’s details missing or not much of an improvement besides articulation.

I'm truly getting re-release fatigue.
I've passed on legitimately most of them, because in the end they are not really that much of an upgrade compared to the originals. Few have been OK, like the Greatest Hits Series 1 Shwan Michaels was definitely an upgraed from that original Wrestlemania release.
Most still have the same weird part choice decisions that don't actually help, the new IRS being 5'8", the Ringside Vault Triple H with the ugly ass head/facial hair. I just bought and returned Tugboat because he has the wrong shoes, the body/arms are smaller and it just overall isn't that much better than the original.
Some are literally no different other than swappable hands and double jointed elbows (Vault Dudleys) which is even worse IMO...but whatever, I have my originals so it's money that Mattel isn't getting from me anymore by doing all these straight up exact same looks. If they had made the Dudles in gray camo instead of red? I would have bought them both. But that's not the point of this insane groundswell of re-releases. It's to make all the brand new collectors happy and to kill the re-sale value of anything, apparently older than 1 year.

I stand by my thing of rereleases are great. I hope they flood the market with these things. Give that SES Punk a fourth release. Start churning out six waves a year of UE rereleases. I'll stay winning.
I'm poor. I rarely ever have the ability to just drop 100 bucks on preorders. If they start flooding the market with "rare" figures to the point that they're worthless from a collector's standpoint, more for me.
I'm not changing my opinion that people who try to turn modern release action figures into a retirement fund are foolish. I am also not changing my opinion that, as long as it is sustainable for Mattel, rereleases are good for the collectors who just want the chance to own figures without breaking the bank.
Everyone should get a fair shake at these things and multiple fair shakes at that. I'm sick and tired of not being online the exact moment a pre-order goes up, or I'm between paydays and I miss out on a figure I want.
Spam these things. I love it.

I voted for there being enough changes to keep the 'originals still special.

I have no problem with them. It saves me money as I don’t have to buy figures I already have. And the ones I don’t have are figures I didn’t want the first time so I still wouldn’t be buying the new releases. And if it hurts scalpers in the process it’s a plus for the hobby as then maybe I will actually find figures like the MNW on the pegs. This exactly. I’m good with it. I don’t consider all my rare figures as worth money bc I’ll probably never sell them so happy for people who couldn’t get the OGs. Was able to get Race and a couple I missed so I’m all for it.

honestly I am hoping more old single joint legends appear on the re-sell market bc I am fine with the old articulation.
but I do think it is getting exhausting, it is not feasible for someone who has collected from the beginning either.
anyways I am overseas so it really does hurt to see a figure being re-released 10 years later and still cannot buy in retail or order online for decent price.

Not a fan, but I get it.
Okay here goes… firstly, nothing to do with “value”. For me it’s the collectability of the line, which is gone (at least for me). I’m buying less and less Mattels cause honestly, things just keep coming out like they are plastic toys made in china (😜) . What I mean to say, I think they are going overboard and the volume of reissues is out of hand.
Secondly, I’d much prefer upgrades, bring them back around as Ultimates or do the Ultimates as elites. Same scale, slightly different style, perfect and I would absolutely upgrade to the Ultimate (e.g. all pink Hitman and WM7 Warrior)
I’ve benefited greatly from Hot Toys doing some reissues (maybe that’s why I don’t buy as many Mattels any more - I’m broke lol). I’ve really only ever paid close to retail or retail on Mattels (plus international shipping but that’s another battle for another day), so the value is neither here nor there for me.
Ill take the opportunity to have my say on the so called “scalper” of older more valuable figures!!! A scalper is someone who buys to resell - particularly those who deliberately try to buy up the market… collectors who have been collecting for years and years, and now sell old stuff aren’t scalpers!!!! Bugs the hell out of me when people say that scalpers shouldn’t be selling older figures for their market value. There’s a difference between clearing out Walmart of MNW figs that are painful to find for twice or more the retail cost, and selling your RSC exclusive Macho King that was EASY available for EVERYONE for months at market price. Rant over!
Enjoy the reissues if you “missed out” (you didn’t miss out, just like I didn’t miss out on hot toys figures - I/you passed or weren’t collecting). But I think the sheer volume and pace they are coming out will ultimately shrink the collector base long term. The next crowd fund will be telling on this, the first ring/stage made because of buyers who made multiple purchases, the second stage didn’t cause most weren’t doubling (or more) down on stuff from Mattel (yeah cost probably played a part but that doesn’t prove my point - so let’s not mention that 😜)

To rerelease them in Ultimate form is fine by me. It irritates me because the re-releases are better than the originals. Some collectors may figure swap. Im not buying these twice or figure swapping. It takes some wind out of my sails being a collector. imgur.com/a/WuU92

Action figures work off a pendulum effect and the point may in fact come where the supply outpaces demand and it swings backwards. But it hasn't reached the turning point yet.

At this point re-issues may be the only way half of us get any MNW figures we may have wanted.

I’m all for them. For those who missed out the first time this gives them a chance to grab them. I haven’t always been paying attention to this hobby as life gets in the way sometimes, so there might be a few I missed as well that I might want. It not, then it will just save me the money.

Yep - hence why I said “ultimately shrink the collector base”, meaning in the future.
