The more I think about it, the more I think a roster split is essential for AEW. They don't need to do a draft, but I really feel like they need to think about it more seriously. They have far too many wrestlers on-roll and it just feels like no one is being showcased as a result.

I’d elevate the International Championship to be Collision’s top belt, and divide the roster up like this:

Once a team like Young Bucks decides to join Jack Perry in going for the Trios belts, for example, they would just disappear from Dynamite and turn up on Collision every week. Likewise, if Miro decided to challenge for the world title, he’d disappear from Collision and start appearing on Dynamite every week. But, there would have to be a switch to even things up; if Miro turns up on Dynamite, Joe might take his place on Collision etc. Much more fluid than how WWE does it but still offering some structure, and the different types of championship on each show means they would feel different from each other.

When it comes to things like the Owen or the CC, they can have a Dynamite side of the bracket and a Collision side of the bracket with the finals taking place at the next PPV to make it feel more like a dream match scenario.

Crucially - I would turn AEW Rampage into ROH Rampage. Make that where the ROH roster competes for the ROH belts and let there be no more cross-over between the two brands.

Well, if we think about it this way:

WWE has 241 personalities on its roster across 7 hours of weekly telly (I know it has that other NXT show that replaced 205 Live but I don't think anyone counts it), which is 34 wrestlers for every hour of telly.

AEW has 197 across 6 hours of weekly telly (counting ROH because of the enormous amount of crossover), which is 32 wrestlers for every hour of telly.

I think the reason the AEW roster feels bloated is because those 196 personalities are competing for the same telly time as each other, whereas the ones in WWE are neatly compartmentalised. It helps to maximise the quality of the time and reduces the sense of overload for the fans. I don't know who to expect on Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays in AEW, and that is quite off-putting.

WWE got it right when the divvied up the telly time the way they did.

I think a roster split based on divisions (rather than a formal draft/brand-split) is one way to overcome that.

I’ve thought about this a lot and I think one of the underlying benefits to AEW for a lot of talent is the ability to moonlight on tv as talent but also pursue othe interests- bands family etc.

I think having a thinner roster per show limits the ability to: short term develop matches which need a quick build (utilizing both AEW and collision) say for all out /all in, and b)- it forces the same stars to have to show up more frequently for collision or dynamite

That being said- I think it would be nice to put more vignettes and stories on collision- and have more top stars appearing on it: swerve and MJF I’m looking at you

I think this could work. AEW could split up the Young Bucks and have them run the shows completely separate and in competition with each other. It would definitely shake things up in AEW. Of course, to keep things fresh, they would need an annual draft and / or trade. I understand that this is copying WWE, but AEW has the potential to this better.
