Why would they do hardcore very disturbing extreme matches at IWA with like 10-15 people their? I am very baffled that they would do that to their body for a small crowd show. It would make more sense if it was a packed crowd.
1. For the money? (doubt it) 2. For the DVD buyers? 3. Because they enjoy the pain?

Since when was IWA only drawing 10-15 people?

Well, the times that IWA-MS ran in front of 10-15 people can be counted on one hand. Anyway, the Death Match stuff is the bread and butter of IWA's DVD sales. Their Death Match tournament is easily the top selling DVD annually. Plus, most wrestlers will tell you they'll bust their ass no matter if the building has 15 people, 50 people, 500 people, etc.

What they are doing is killing each other. Quite disturbing and sad to watch. Do you know how much they get paid for these matches?

Some don't get paid much. I know Brandon Prophet (the guy taking the bad falls in the match you cited) got like 20 bucks for that. Or maybe that's his regular pay. Anyway, the point is no matter what we say, the guys are willing to do it. And a lot of the stuff, yeah it hurts, but they get through it and there are ways to combat the injury possibilities.
If Prophet had been smart, he wouldn't have cut up his back in the aforementioned match.
Bottom line: they're doing it on their own free will; no one is making them. And besides, it's not like most bottom indie guys are getting paid oodles of money for straight wrestling matches.

I myself, am not a big deathmatch fan, so I don't really watch it. Its that simple. The guys that do it, do it because they know there are diehards out there that absolutely love it. So, if they don't mind doing it, I don't think you should.

Its their bodies. If they don't give a shit, I really don't see why you should. Let them do what they want.

Some guys got into that part of the business and entered because they loved it. Others it's just a craft they choose to perfect. There's a constant argument about mat work and psychology, some do it well and some it's to much. Deathmatch/hardcore/ultraviolence, ect... They're by no means safer. But most guys who do it usually aren't going that route just for money because it's the style they are keen to.

The thing is, the good Death match guys put all that stuff that wrestling is about (selling, psychology and a story) into their matches. Ian Rotten is the best for that kind of stuff, IMO.
Besides, regular wrestling usually features people launching themselves off the top rope and crash landing on others, people getting dropped on their head, etc. It's not like wrestling is perfectly safe. So if we're going to get on Death Matches because "they're killing each other", let's get on almost every style of wrestling.

i'm big into death matches lately and wouldn't mind trying my hand at them. i think to suceed you need to be drunk and hell or high as hell, there's no doubt corp was blitzed out of his skull during the 07 tourney. after one of his matches he delivered a promo with bloodshot eyes that he could barely keep open.
deathmatch is awesome stuff, i'm just getting into it and really love watching it. live is totally amazing and i'd say i only saw 1 really hardcore match live.

Honestly, if you don't want to watch those kind of matches, no one is forcing you. They obviouly do it because they love the fans, and professional wrestling. I can guarnatee it's not for the money. Personally, Im not really a fan of Deathmatches, but they do (like said above) have more of a story, if you will. If it's not bothering you in any way, then why exactly do you care so much?

I see the original poster has a Morishima sig, and I love puro as much as anyone, but what guys like Kobashi and Misawa did to their bodies for years in the 90's was just as bad, if not tons worse, than what guys like Drake Younger do. In the long run, having some tacks in your head or a light tube to your back will not do nearly as much damage as 3 tiger suplexes a match. The AJPW alumni are having seriously problems with their knees, necks, and backs. Death match guys don't have nearly as many legitimate physical problems past cuts and scars. It might not look as graphic, but watching Kobashi get dumped on his head should be a lot harder to watch than a light tube shot.

Watching the back drop driver is a lot easier than seeing someone get cut with a fan. Especially with a busted head and scars all over the forehead. These guys are doing horrible things to their body so they can be booked on a show for shock value. I respect all wrestlers who put their body on the line for my entertainment. But these guys are not wrestlers. More like a crazy hardcore circus act.

I can guarantee you that in the long run, the toll deathmatches take on your body is considerably less than that on 90's AJPW style.

Just don't watch. Don't complain. Why get a tattoo? Why be a stunt man?
