So yeah, I'm gonna quit smoking. I've been smoking for 3 or 4 years now and I definatley dont want to do it anymore.
I realize most people on this bored are too young to smoke/or have just started, which my message to you is dont, its too hard to quit.
Anyone have any tips or anything?

My friend is recently trying to stop, and it's been a few months now that he hasn't smoked, but he is on edge a lot.
My guess, to quit an addiction is to get addicted to something else that isn't as bad for you as smoking. Start chewing gum.

Uhhh...I was about to start. Everytime I do, though, someone encourages me not to, with a Rocky-esque montage of withdrawl symptoms and throwing up.

Starting smoking is a blast, thats the truth too. You feel good from the nicotine and you still feel healthy. The next thing you know, you're buying a pack every few days. Then every other day. Then every day. Then you're stuck. Finally you realize you cant do anything remotley physical without coughing up a lung and needing to take a smoke break. I dont know how people can smoke their whole life. It sucks now and I'm only so short into it.

As for what you said about physical activity - - More than half my friends are that way, and it pisses me off. I used to think that my grandfather was unharmed by smoking...He died at 77, I believe? I dunno...He just looked healthy for the longest time, always smoking. Then in his late 70's, BAM.

I dont know how people can smoke their whole life. It sucks now and I'm only so short into it. I'm a pack and a half a day smoker, overweight and I can do physical stuff without coughing up a lung (only when I wake up in the morning does that happen). Plus the best way to stop yourself from buying everyday is to buy by the the carton. Anyway, I tried to quit smoking right around SummerSlam last year and I went for 36 hours without a cigarette. But then the stress got to me (doesn't help when you're trying to get over a breakup and the fact that your mom smokes too) and I broke down and just went back to my chain smoking habits. I guess I just love it too much and I'm not ready. Although I do wish you luck in your quest, man. Hope you achieve what I couldn't!

Wow thats great. trust me is going to be hard. my tip is just take it one day at a time. Don't think about tomorrow just worry about today. its not easy but if you believe in yourself you can do it then you can overcome it.
good luck.

I know o to well how hard it is to quit, I tried a while ago when i felt the need to. I dont get withdrawal syndromes either and i have been smoking for the past 10 years Now surprisingly i still smoke and i am in great shape. I wont tell you not to smoke because your gonna do what you want anyway.

I've been smoking for about the same time as you. It's great when you first start, it's fun, but then it becomes a chore, you need to have a gay every 3-4 hours. The first month is the hardest.

i've quit smoking a few times & the patches really helped me at 1st. i always made the mistake of quitting using the patches too soon & went back to smoking again after a few weeks i've tried the gum too, but i don't think it helped as much as the patches. as an added bonus, if you wear the patches when you sleep they make you have super vivid bizarre dreams. it's best to try & quit as soon as you can, i've been smoking for 12 years now (a pack a day since i was 16) & it doesn't get any easier.

my dad used some pill but I forgot the name. If you do it right it can be over in six months.

the way i quit was by rewarding myself each day. If i made it to 5:00pm without a cig in the first week i'd be able to have 5 in the arvo/evening. Then cut it down to 3 the next week, then 1 for a couple of weeks after that. Then by the time you're ready to quit you're only having 1 a day anyway so if you start again it won't be much. But it's not too hard to quit after that.
Also start doing some serious exercise. Get a gym membership with all the money you're saving and get fit. You'll think cigs are gross after you get into good shape.
