It really boggles my mind. These guys (You know who they are) report so much of this 'news,' and it very rarely turns out to be true. What I find to be really strange, is that so many wrestlers go out and say that these dirthseets are BS, and so many people still take it as the Gospel. I mean, come on, I think these guys would know. Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels, Ken Shamrock, and many others have just recently gone out and talked about how cheesy alot of it was.
How would these 'journalists' know all of this crap? I'm not just talking about angles and stuff, either. I'm talking about when it things like backstage arguments. I remember reading something about CM Punk making a comment toward Arn Anderson and having his push taken away. So many people were bummed, and hoped it wasn't true. Then what happens? Punk loses a match, to Hardcore Holly. "Wait! It was true!" See what I mean? In my opinion, I find alot of it to be coincidental. Report comes out that he's in trouble backstage, he loses, it must be true, right? Wrong. Everyone loses. It just so happened that he lost the week it was reported. Punk didn't go on to be buried for weeks and weeks. He shot right back up.
Again, let's get to RVD. If all of this crap that's reported were true, wouldn't he be burying WWE in all of his interviews not that he's a free man? I just listened to him on a radio show, he didn't have a bad word to say about Vince or the company all together. Then the reports state that 'if RVD comes back, it'll most likely be to WWE.' How convenient? A month ago, you were telling us he's basically counting the days until he's TNA bound. That's strange.
Let's not forget one of the most recent ones: Snitsky vs. Cena at Summer Slam!
So, with all of this (and so much I left out), why do so many people buy into their crap? I'll admit, I used to think these guys were on the inside, and knew every little thing going on. But after a year or two of just seeing how much of this crap turned out false, it finally rammed itself into my head: It's bullcrap. These guys are just out to make a buck like everyone else. Sure, they're not idiots. They do have their ear up to the closed to every now and again (it seems), but more often than not it's straight up crap.

i agree dude.
all meltzer and his little friends do, is speculate for a living.. they're fans with the internet.. like bischoff said.. they've never actually been a part of the wrestling business.
how do they get their news? from people backstage whom they pay.. people that cant keep their mouths shut.. half the crap is second hand.. that's why most of it isnt accurate.

I like how they just report crap just because they need to report it. So they make up stuff like Oh Vince McMahon is pissed at King Booker which is why he drafted King Booker to RAW, King Booker then got in an argument for being drafted to RAW saying that he doesn't want to work with Triple H, but in the end, he was over it and everything was A-OK. More like, In the end we just made this up just to have a news report.

I remember trying to make this argument, and someone said, "Oh yea then how did Meltzer Know about Kahli Going to Raw before he did" or "How did he know about Batista/Undertaker at Wm23."
fIRST of all. Kahli was seen arriving at the Arena around 2pm that day....at 2:30 Meltzer reported it. Oh my god. he must be Clarvioant.
and Considering their were no other big money matches for smackdown at the time Batista/Undertaker seemed Logical.
Half the time these so called Dirt sheet writers (Like the weather men) Take Educated guesses. when they come true. it was because their Sources told them. when they dont. Things happened at the last minute or Vince found out about the leak. when there wasnt any
I mean hell. Jim Ross said many times. These Journalists Camp out before the events at Airports and Hotels. First they ask for Autographs and Photos with the superstars. then they start hounding them for info. which the guys blow off.
Some of them Even Pay TNA and the WWE to interview a superstar and then get them to Plug the Dirt Sheet like Chris jericho did in the past.
But hey

They need to report things so they can get more hits to their site, which generates more money for them. Look at prowrestlinginsider. It takes about 2 minutes for the page to load because of all of the ads. Then when you click an article, even that page takes a minute to load.
75-80% of what they say is speculation. The rest is from ring crew and backstage workers who overhear things. People act like Batista or Orton are calling Meltzer or Scherer from an untraceable cell phone in a bathroom stall away from Vince and giving storylines to them.
Dirtsheets think you are as stupid as WWE does. They say things, then change them without ever acknowledging the change, and hope you are too dumb to realize it.

Lets face it, WWE fans will never understand "dirtsheets". You're all stuck in this 80's and 90's mind set. Meltzer is the most credible person in wrestling journalism. Knock him all you want, but the fact he's be going on for all these years and is highly respected by not only people in wrestling, but MMA too, just proves itself.

I know, like this newest one "Mcmahon bans all strangulation moves". Cena had Lashley in the FU last night and Kane hit his Chokeslam. It doesnt make any sense. Im just about done with spoileres and dirtsheets.

Like just yesterday they reported that the plan is for Cena to beat Orton at Summer Slam and face HHH for his return feud. Then today when i got up, it now says that Orton is scheduled to win? It just so confusing. Oh well i dont like reading spoilers on matches and PPVS, but i do like to read backstage info, what wrestler do outside the ring; if its true

Since someone didn't want honesty, I guess I'll bring more of it;
Meltzer reported Khali was being sent to Raw one week before it occurred, in his newsletter. That Elvis dude didn't know that becuase he doesn't subscribe. If he subscribed he'd have known that.
Secondly, of the company I work for, many people talk with Meltzer and Mike Johnson from shows. It's not hard to see or hear about.
Thirdly, self admitted Meltzer sources in the past include Dean Malenko, Jim Cornette, Jim Ross, Mick Foley, Ric Flair, VINCE MCMAHON, Erich Bischoff, and even guys like Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, and Chris Benoit.
WWE fans don't want to accept that guys like Meltzer get info before they do, so they have to complain and cry about it. If WWE fans actually looked outside of the box instead of 100% focussing on WWE, they'd see that the business is no longer being protected, as if it ever was.
Dave Meltzer and the PWinsider staff are journalists, they speak with sources both in and outside of the pro wrestling business daily. If you guys don't want to accept it, fine, but don't state they make up information because that is slander and libel.

Well it has been reported that RVD wasn't happy with wwe because of his de-push and the basterdization of ecw so I find it surprising that he's not voicing his displeasure for that now that he's free.

Most of the stuff you people read is made up by some other internet smark on a message board. Case in point: the whole Benoit/wikipedia thing. That started by somebody attaching Meltzer's name to it to give it some credibility even though at the time there was no proof Nancy Benoit was dead. It's funny how the "news" that pops up on here with him listged as a source is rarely reported ANYWHERE on his website. He only releases the newsletter once a week, yet you can find a new "report" from him everyday on these boards. Hey, look! Here's one now: Source: Wrestling Observer It has been reported by sources that John Cena's next opponent after defeating Randy Orton at SummerSlam will be a miniature dachshund named Rufus. Wow...Meltzer had to have reported it! It has his name listed as a source! I mean, why would somebody attach Metlzer's name if it wasn't true?!? Oh yeah, it's the  ing internet. People do **** like that. Also...things change. Especially when Vince McMahon is involved. It's like any other television show. There are re-writes of scripts. The only difference is, WWE does everything on the fly and storylines change matter of days before the show is produced. If figure you know it alls would have figured this out by now. |

Dave Meltzer is the beginning and end as far as wrestling Journalists go. He has the credentials, he has the sources, and he has the credibility. If he reports it on the website, or in his newsletter, then more like than not, what he is reporting is or at least at one point was true. PWInsider has a fairly good track record as well, although you have to pay for their stupid insider content to get most of the good stuff. The Torch however is a bit more sketchy. They report some stuff, but Wade Keller's track record isn't nearly as good as Meltzer's or even Brian Alvarez.

Pwinsider and the Observer are the only places worth turning to for news. The Torch is a joke. They rarely even report news, they are not on schedule with their newsletter, and what they do report is often wrong or National Enquirer like. As for the Figure Four newsletter? I don't understand the hype at all. Supposedly, Alvarez is funny, but to me he's more like a smarmy egomaniac. He's more annoying than he is funny. His newsletter doesn't have much news(just him trying to be funny) and he's often wrong as well. Alvarez can't seem to disagree with Meltzer on anything.
