No free games. But you do get a gold card for one month. Should be 3 months for the time you wait.

Let's see.
12 month Gold subscription to Xbox Live = $60
$60 / 12 months = $5 for a month of Live.
It's pretty much BS that is all they give you for THEM selling faulty hardware. Yeah, here's $5. Bastards.

Yeah, because it's not like they're replacing it for free or anything...

Who cares? Yeah, it's convienent when it happens, but it's down right ridiculous that the failure rate is over 50%. And Microsoft didn't even acknowledge the issue until well into it's 2nd year on the market. And while they have acknowledged it now, they're still not doing much of anything to solve the issue.
So I really don't give a damn that they are replacing it for free. I've already had to send mine in once. I love my Xbox 360, but the Xbox 360 itself is a piece of $hit.

First of all, your 50% is bullcrap. Secondly, what do you think they should do to solve the issue? They can't do a recall. Period. Doing so would ruin them. The 3 year warranty for the red ring is huge, and we will probably not get anything more than that. They're making changes to the new hardware which should make them more reliable, but there's not a whole lot more they can do for the people who have older consoles beyond the warranty.

Buy a PS3, it'll all be over.
Kidding. My friends have gotten the red ring of death too, and they waited about a month or two. Sucks to be you, but I hope it goes as quick as possible.

I realize that they can't recall the system, but they're doing little to solve the problem for the systems still being produced. Yeah, they're starting to implement the new Falcon CPU which run cooler, but the CPU isn't the problem. It's the GPU that overheats and causes the red ring, not CPU.
And even when you do send your 360 in, in most cases it either:
1) gets "repaired" and it send back to you or 2) you're sent a refurbished one.
In either account you don't recieve a brand new 360 or the new chip.

Well, if it's not refurbished, it is repaired. And they also are getting better GPUs.

They may have plans to, but they haven't touched the GPU yet.

You know what sucks, every time I turn on my 360 im afraid I'm going to get the thing. That is a crappy feeling. I got my Elite at Best Buy and they gave me a 3 year warranty, and the guy said I can literally walk in, have them test it, and if its broke, they'll hand me another system. Thats awesome and I love that... I think I paid 70 bucks for it but its WELL worth it. But still, Having a feel of getting it still sucks.
