Got the idea from another forum. The Beatles - "Meet the Beatles" Do I really need to explain this one? It's the ing Beatles. They're the ones who got me interested in music, to say the very least. Black Flag - "My War" Made me realize that even though The Beatles were a fantastic group, being angry and punching the air while listening to the title track was ultimately more rewarding. I think I read Catcher in the Rye at about the same time, too. Nirvana - "Unplugged in New York" Taught me that raw human emotion is all that is needed for a great record. The Stooges - "Fun House" Made me rethink what I thought was 'good' about music. The Velvet Underground - "White Light/White Heat" Pretty much did the same thing as Fun House, but on a much larger scale. The record that made me finally throw away all my Guns 'n' Roses/Metallica/AC/DC albums.

Radiohead "The Bends" - I had never heard such sadly sweet songs as many on The Bends. Songs like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Nice Dream" opened up my eyes to a world of music I had never bothered to hear as I mostly listened to metal.
Nine Inch Nails "The Fragile" - The album that Trent Reznor transcended from angry industrial musician to artist. The album is an incredible mix of old and new with some beautiful songs throughout. 20 years from now The Fragile will still hold up as a brilliant work of art.
The Pixies "Death to the Pixies" - Not technically an album, this compilation still introduced me to listening to non-mainstream music.

In no particular order: The Funeral - Ruled By NoneBack in 2003, I was a senior in high school. I was barely starting to go to hardcore shows still, and was sick one day but wanted to see the Promise. The Funeral played beforehand at a release show. Seeing their singer jump around stage with a shirt that read " You Bush You ing Prick" in marker just ingrained into my head. It made me buy their CD right there, and that's what made me realize that there was something for me in hardcore music. I'm weaing my Funeral T-shirt right now. Bad Religion - The Gray RaceYeah, not their best. I know. I wanted to buy a Bad Religion CD after playing Crazy Taxi, and this was the one with Ten in 2010 on it. It made me go out and buy Pennywise and AFI CDs and just get into music more. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Ska-Core, The Devil and MoreI became obsessed with the Bosstones when "The Impression That I Get" became a hit. My uncle gave me this CD for Christmas one year, and I loved the versions of Lights Out and Think Again on it . . . covers of some bands named the Angry Samoans and Minor Threat. Whatever. Integrity - In Contrast of TomorrowThis is a compilation CD. A BAD compilation CD. The tracks from Integrity's first EP and first album are intertwined. I paid $18 at FYE for this crap? Well, it opened the doors to me for my favorite band, and for that I will probably never get rid of it. The Haunted - One Kill WonderThis is what got me into metal. Not Reign in Blood. Not Master of Puppets. Not Among the Living. In 2003, this was a new CD. My friend was talking nonstop about the Haunted. I bought it. It grew on me after a while . I learned some of the members used to be in a band called At the Gates. Turns out they were kind of a big deal. The rest is history.

Wooo! Someone else is a fan of Black Flag. They were an awesome group.
Some albums I really like...
Black Flag's "First Four Years" compilation Arcade Fire's "Funeral" Bright Eyes' "Lifted, or the Story Is In the Soil, Keep Your Ear To the Ground" Tilly & The Wall's "Wild Like Children" Alkaline Trio's "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" (I love all the Alk3 albums, but I love this one especially)

Cannibal Corpse - Eaten Back to Life (The album that got me into death metal)
Coliseum - Godamage (A band I stumbled upon indirectly through the Doomriders...once I went through their label/distro/etc I found a wealth of brand new bands I'm really into.)
Converge - Petitioning the Empty Sky (I'd base all music ever made on how well it holds up to any Converge album...and they'd fail. This band is who I am.)
Black Flag - Damaged (I used to listen to almost all punk at one point in my life, and this album was it for me.)
Social Distortion - Self-Titled (This album got me into studying music more, and helped me dive into rockabilly, psychobilly, jazz, and blues.)

Eh, I don't really like "best" or things that "changed" anything, so I'll just name five pretty decent albums...
"Appetite for Destruction" by Guns N Roses "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi "Ten" by Pearl Jam "Led Zeppelin IV" by Led Zeppelin "Honkey Chateau" by Elton John
