he was in arguably some of the best matches of all time. vs. savage, flair ect. i've never seen him in a bad match and his style was natural. he was always in great shape and from what i've read one of the best to work with. i guess you cant say "the best" in terms of his accomplishments but as far as in ring performer he's right up there.

Ric Flair's the best of all time, Steamboat's only #2 because he never worked heel. HBK, Bret Hart, and Kurt Angle round out the top 5 best of all time.

I dont think Flair is the best of all time. I heard steamboats wife said on an interview that ricky was supposed to beat hogan for the title but guys like bobby heenan and hogan said it wont happen or something like that. And since when does someone need to be a heel to be the best.

Steamboat had good matches, but he was bland as hell.

Heel? No! More than one dimensional? Yes!
Ricky will be a hall of famer. No question. But he was not good on the stick. He was a great wrestler but did no "spots" which will restict him. he was a very safe wrestler. So he is a legend. But not even close to the best ever. He held himself down.

As far as in ring workers go, Steamboat is one of the very best. He worked with a extremely varied set of heels in his time and adapted his style to suit each different opponent. However, as phenomenal as his wrestling was, he wasn't much of a talker which I think is something that really does prevent him from being considered the best. Also, never working heel or attempting to is something which I think doesn't help his cause. But, considering his prime came in the 80's, Steamboat didn't need to be a great talker because they're were already so many of them around in either the NWA or the WWF. That being said however, I really like his pre match promo at WM 3 before the Savage match.
Steamboat was the type of worker who didn't need to be a great promo guy or a great heel because he was fantastic at doing what he did, and he became incredibly over like that, so there was no need to change a good thing.

I have always been a huge Ricky Steamboat mark. In my opinion, he's not the absolute best ever, but he's definitely top five.
All of his movements were so fluid and crisp in the ring. The other major talent Steamboat had -- sort of like Shawn Michaels -- is that he was amazing at selling. Steamboat made his opponents look like world-beaters by selling the hell out of their moves, selling exhaustion at the right times, etc.
Also, if Steamboat sold a move like a backbreaker early in the match, he would sell back pain for the rest of the match, including the walk back to the dressing room. Steamboat had amazing attention to detail when it came to selling, and it made every match that much more exciting.
If a heel was booked into a feud with Steamboat, they had to know they'd come out of every match looking strong, thanks to Steamboat's talent for getting guys over, whether he jobbed to them or not.

His promo's were poor, his look was quite bland other than being muscular which I suppose was more than enough for that era & as stated already he never worked heel. Best Ever, NO!
But still an incredibly talented worker who like a lot of the very best could bring out the best of others despite their limitations.

steamboat was great and will surely be a hall of famer. Even though ive always been a diehard NWA fan, i dont think Steamboat is a top 5 all time great. hes in the top 10 but hes surely not #1...Hands down with no argument Ric Flair IS the best wrestler

amen to that brother. just a question is that a real game shown in your signature? Yes... it's from the WCW game for the original Nintendo 8-bit system. It came out in 1989. Roster for the game was: Ric Flair Ricky Steamboat Lex Luger Sting Road Warrior Hawk (my avatar) Road Warrior Animal Michael Hayes Steve "Dr. Death" Williams Kevin Sullivan Mike Rotundo Eddie Gilbert Rick Steiner
