Of course, by that I mean collecting comic books.
First off, my parents don't HATE it, but I get constant ridicule for it. It just gets really annoying. They've seen me d/l some comics and view them with the whole CDisplay thing, and they say "why buy them you have them right there!" I don't know about you guys, but that just doesn't do it for me.
I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but it just doesn't substitute for having the actual comic in hand. Surely I can't be the only one who feels this way.
I know not ALL of the people live with parents, but when it comes to me I just can't stand it. To the point of me going through embarassment if I win some comics off Ebay. Seeing as I have to give the money to my parents to put it in the bank so it can be used via paypal.
Also, my parents pay for NONE of them. It's all me. So, yeah it sucks.
P.S., since I'm talking about comics, does anyone have a program or some kind of list of Marvel comics so I can keep track of what I have/need or whatever?

My mother would probably be worried if she knew I still collect Sonic the Hedgehog comics.

They don't have a problem with comic books. Hell, my boss and most of my co-workers collect comics. It's the action figure collection that I catch crap for.

My Wife actually thinks the fact that I'm a comic geek is cool, she's even gone with me to conventions. She does tend to have a problem with me "wasting money on all those figures." She didn't have a problem with me blowing $150 at last year's Charlotte Heroescon, but she hates the h*ll out of me paying $8 for Marvel Legends.

I resort to Ebay mainly because the guy who owns the local comic shop in my area is a total assclown.
He has a HUGE inventory of back issues, but if you try looking at them it's "don't remove them from the bags."
So, I'm just suppose to assume the pages inside aren't ripped?
I wish I had a nice shop dammit.

An older woman runs the comic shop here. Very nice lady, she'll order any comic you ask. You can have a conversation with her about the Legacy Virus for hours.

My parents never had a problem with comics. They had a bigger problem with action figures (which like a gay son who came out to his parents, they grudgingly accept). Now I only get a few comics. The writing on so many are too awful to waste my money on. Honestly I don't even have a regular series I pick up anymore.

I don't have a regular series I buy either. 98% of what I buy is all back issues. All Marvel with the exception of Friday the 13th comics actually..

Well, I don't really "collect" comics. I buy and read them, but I don't really collect them, other than the fact that I don't throw them away. But, my wife doesn't mind, and my mother used to buy comics for me when I was a kid, back when they were affordable. If anything, my wife hates that I spend $20-30 a week on them, but buying dinner usually smoothes that over.

I've never really cared. I started when I was 13 and I'm 28 now and I dont see quitting ever. I collect in that I dont toss them, but someday I'll bequeath them to another. Comics are to enjoy. If you think you'll get rich on them or toys someday, you'll be sorry. I DO try and keep them in decent shape, though.
Being highly imaginative, comics were/are a perfect outlet for me. I've tried for years to put together my own but I'm short on time and, more importantly, an artist friend who wants to take the journey with me. But I still try. Comics formed my world view and, in some ways, shaped who I wanted to be. You cant just give that up. Some people love Nascar. I love a good comic con.

Now I think about it... my parent's take it surprisingly well. While my parent's have never told me to stop anything, usually they (my dad mostly) make jokes about stuff like wrestling etc. but with comics I haven't heard a word.
They've been in comic stores with me when we've been out and didn't say a word. Heck they've even looked around at some of the valuable ones (usually stuck up on the wall, they don't look through the long boxes so they're the one's easiest to see) and diorama's and such.
My friends are fine with it too although not everyone knows (Not due to hiding it but it's not everyday comic conversation comes up so there is no need to mention it)... they love talking to me about new movies and such and love looking through my collection.

To be honest with you, I think comic books are more socially acceptable now, than they've ever been. With all the comic based movies coming out in recent years, you've had people take up the hobby out of curiosity.

It's funny because all the girls I know think it's just like collecting art and no big deal. It's the parents who think I'm wacked.

My dad actually reads them more then I do, therefore, I never have to actually buy my comics. He just goes to the local shop and picks them all up.
No one I know of has a problem with my toy collecting. They just look at it as something that I enjoy and that everyone has to have a hobby. Just like my friends buy cds and other things I buy action figures and dvds. It just all comes down to what you enjoy and keeps you sane I would suppose.

My parents have never had a problem with anything I collect. My dad was the one who got me into comics in the first place.
My friends are the same. They have seen all my comics and figures and don't care. They just can't believe all the money i've blown on it all.

Most of my friends read comics. Even the ones that don't get new ones every week still enjoy reading comics every now and then, so I'll let them borrow some of mine. They're also impressed by my action figures...of course, they probably don't realize quite how much I've spent on them over the years.
My dad also has a obsessive collection (Roy Rogers memorablia), so collecting comics and figures is really just following in his footsteps. My parents are happy I spend my money on comics and whatnot because that means I'm not spending it on more...seedier things.
Even people at work are cool with it. There's one other really big comic nerd where I work, and people will overhear our conversations and sometimes make jokes (not at out expense, mind you). They make fun of us for being strange, but not for reading comics.

My dad used to read tons of comics. He's still sort of into them, he just doesn't read them anymore. We did watch the Ultimate Avengers movie the other day and both enjoyed it.
My friends really don't care. Some of them read comics aswell.

Well, I dunno about comics as I rarely read them these days, but fig wise, everyone I know thinks cool and are fine with it, many actually think its awesome and they love looking through it all. My mom even picks me up stuff sometimes. Great to collect!

My mom has school in Racine today, which is like the next "big" town that we have about 20 minutes away. There is a comic shop in the area I hope to check out tommorow. I figure I'll probably pay a little more for back issues than Ebay, but with shipping it all evens out.

My parents think its a waste of money since, like you I can download them and for the most part I only download old stuff; most of the monthly stuff I read I buy. My friends couldn't care less, most of them have read comics or just like the cartoons and movies, and a few read comics too. i get ragged on sometimes when i'm at the comic store with them and i'll have a conversation with one of the people at my comic store about like uber geeky crap, but thats about it.
oh and everyone i know thinks dc sucks which is untrue marvel sucks (for the most part, its picking up a bit now though) IM LOOKING AT YOU BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS.>:[
