Official Madden NFL 09 Thread

Its more like if someone do it make it to him... and watch him react..

If someone does it to you, do it back to them and see their reaction is what I think he was getting at.

EA is supposedly working on a patch for this.

Long - but fun - read for Madden fans.

I thought I'd give a little "chat transcript" that you'd basically hear during a game between me and one of my best friends that play online against each other. Now he and I have been playing online since early Playstation 2 Madden. Honestly, every year, we easily play each other around 75-100 times. One year we played each other 118 times. Basically we just get on at night, when the GF's go to bed, and bust out a game or 2.

Today he and I played. He's usually the Bills (his favorite team) which sucks, because that usually means I have to pick a subpar team and can't be my favorite team (the Cowboys) because it's not fair. Though...from time to time, we run that game too. It's usually VERY competitive no matter what teams. If it's Chargers vs Colts, Bills vs Cowboys, Bills vs Dolphins, etc.

Neither of us cheese, ever. We hate it. But we both do complain ALL the time. Honestly, the way we complain about something, you'd think the final score should be 0-0 and no yards should be gained. I get "dicked" because my LB isn't where I wanted him. He's "dicked" because my DB made a jumping play to knock down the ball, etc, etc, etc. But there's never cheesing. The most "cheesing" you see from me, is 4th and inches, I'll probably go for it. 4th and 1, I'll punt (unless it's crucial and I'm losing in the 4th, you know) but he doesn't complain, he'll do the same thing most of the time, so it's completely understandable. In fact, if I punt on 4th and 1, he'll say something like "Oh, not gonna go eeeeh?" and I'll say the same to him. We both hate to lose, and we both get SO frustrated during games. It's actually pretty funny to listen to. But here's a little of what you'd hear if you could listen in. Usually I complain about something like a LB being out of place, but these are the type of things you'd hear from him basically:

"Dude, what the ...all you do is run the same running play ALL the time. I can't in stop it, this is ridiculous dude."

"No, I really don't. I've been running basically all my run plays. It's just a lot of them are ISO's, Dives, Sprints, etc."

I have 2 I-Forms, 1 Strong, a bunch of shotguns and a bunch of singlebacks. It's the playbook I'm most comfortable with. Basically I run up the middle a lot and he gets frustrated. If my play calls for me to go to the left, and I see a bigger hole to the right...I take that. And why would I NOT want to run a play he can't stop? Isn't that the point? He doesn't want to run a full out play to stop my run because I may use a PA and pass over him...he needs to make a choice. Instead, he gets pissed.

"Dude, you have tossed that god damn ball to the tight end on the last 3 plays. You just run the same pass play every 3 downs..."

"What? He's the guy that's open and I was almost sacked, it's a smart play to gain a good 6-7 yards. And they're totally different plays..."

They really are. I mean, I have my bread and butter plays, like everyone. That play where it's 3rd and 6 and you know exactly what you're picking. But honestly... a lot of routes are the same. What does he expect me to do? Throw the ball into coverage because I've thrown to that player more often that others and maybe get the ball picked? Of course not. Plus, I use SO many different looks, he just, again, gets frustrated. Granted, I hot route A LOT. Usually I hot route every play. If its to make a guy go on the slant, a hook, go deep to open something short (or even throw to him), or if it's just to make you THINK I'm throwing and then I run...but I'm not cheesing. He's the open guy, I hit him. If he wants to stop it...run something under and take a shot at me beating you deep 1 on 1.

"DUDE...I can't even in THROW on this defense right now. Do you EVER use man-to-man? CHRIST...in cover 3, cover 2 or some zone blitz everytime...I can't even go down in field to tie this game because of that zone (if he's down 7 with under 2 minutes trying to tie it up)"

Now, if you've played Madden, you KNOW man-to-man is GOD awful this year. The slightest move and you're easily scoring a TD or a huge gain. What's funny...is he ALWAYS uses cover 2 or cover 3. And WHY would I WANT him to go down field and score at the end of a game? The point is to stop him. I'm not cheesing, I'm not cheating. I'm running zones, zone blitzes, some full out blitz if I think he's running, etc. Again...just frustration.

"Dude, you're going to use the in LB this play? You just sit in the middle of the field and wait for me to throw..."

I RARELY do this. I just do it if I think he's going to run. He often throws to his TE (had 7 catches for 90 yards last game) so I figure if I use my LB and guard his TE, I can stop it. Or if he just so happens to run, I can use the LB to try to fill a hole too. I honestly only use the LB about 3-4 times a game. Usually I'm a lineman (DT or DE). But if I'm the LB...AUDIBLE or HOT ROUTE into something that will hurt the fact I took him. That's what I do...no rule says you have to be the DL on defense. AGAIN....just frustration

I know this is a long read...and there's a TON more. But it's just fun. He gets so frustrated because I run down his throat in most games. And he complains I'm running...don't most people complain over guys passing deep every play? I love when he complains I'm running the same run play. Or he'll complain I'm using 4 wide, and run the ball. "4 WIDE DUDE? COME ON...THAT'S SO GAY'...why, because I tricked you? I know he knows he's just annoyed and frustrated, but I can't help laugh sometimes. What run does he want me to do that's "new?" Most run plays are up the middle in the NFL, and a lot are that way in Madden. And If I'm gaining 7 yards, why NOT run?

Anyways, I thought this would be a funny read for people. It's all in good fun between us, but I bet a lot of you feel this way while playing too.

There are just so many run plays you can run. You can run up the middle, or pitch it basically. What does he expect me to do? A super run play?

Same with passing. I RARELY throw deep. I don't see the point. But there aren't plays where I lay down to pretend I'm napping, get up and catch the ball. There are routes run, I throw to the open guy. I don't LOOK for my TE usually, he's just the guy that's open...(or WR, or RB, etc)

I get most pissed when I mash LB and my QB doesn't throw. And for some reason that happens a LOT. I also get pissed when I'm about to sack someone, I switch to dive, he throws and the computer decided I picked him and takes me off the WR. That results in an easy TD.

Also, am I the only person that fumbles WAY too much? I hold RB to cover it up. And it's always when I'm down in the red zone. A nice 7 yard run, and I fumble. Marion Barber (who's strong like an ox) gets down there and fumbles now? Come on...

I also HAAATE when I'm watching a defender in a zone move. He'll be moving right, moving right, moving right, starts running right, I throw to the guy BEHIND him and somehow he stops on a dime and MORPHS back to the ball to pick it off. REALLY? I get SOOO mad at that. I'm doing everything perfect. I'm baiting him to keep moving because he thinks I'm throwing to the flat, I have him fooled, I toss it behind him and he supermans back to pick it. I often throw my controller or use words my GF hates...or words that don't even really exist at that point.

I use to throw my remote all the time, but I now keep something else around that won't break or atleast isn't $40 to replace. I would have been through like three remotes this year with how easy it is for the cpu linebackers to keep up with my wideouts and how they can turn on a dime and make one handed ints and my db's can't catch balls that hit them right in the hands.

I hate how linemen can keep up with my running back (Barry Sanders with a 98 or 99 speed) pisses me off. I just shake my head thinking "how the does that fat piece of crapkeep up with one of the quickest players ever?"

Did anyone else download an auto-update yesterday for this game?

Yeah, what I'm saying is I haven't heard of a new update being out yet, but I downloaded some update when I turned the game on the other day....
