9/19/08 - Nashville, Tennessee
Following the usual intro video to Friday Night Smackdown, highlights from last weeks show are shown, with the focus being on Mr. Kennedy demanding to be treated better by Vickie Guerrero only to be thrown in to a match with her nephew, Chavo, to which he came out victorious. Following the match, Kennedy was speared by Edge which led to Kennedy costing Edge the victory in the main event, costing him the chance to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Mercy.
The first arena shot goes straight to the ring where La Familia are all standing in the ring. Vickie Guerrero says she is out here tonight to tell Mr. Kennedy that he is going to pay for what he has done not only to her last week, but also to her husband, Edge. Before Vickie can continue, she is interrupted by “The Game” Triple H who makes his way down to the ring, and once inside, he talks about how Smackdown has turned in to a sitcom and that Vickie has been the worst general manager since Jonathan Coachman. Vickie gets angry and tells Triple H that he’ll regret saying that about her and demands that La Familia attacks him. Triple H manages to fight off Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, & Chavo Guerrero as they charge at him separately, but they quickly the numbers advantage and over power him. Edge walks over slowly towards Triple H as he is being held down by Hawkins, Ryder and Chavo but before he can do anything, Mr. Kennedy runs down to the ring with a steel chair, forcing La Familia to quickly retreat from the ring, Vickie screams in to the mic that she is sick and tired of Kennedy, and Triple H ruining everything and announces that tonight they’ll team up to face Hawkins, Ryder, and a mystery partner in a handicap match.
Following a commercial break, a graphic appears on the screen showing the just announced match of Triple H & Mr Kennedy teaming up to face Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder, and a mystery partner in a handicap match. Another image appears on the screen showing that the main event of tonight’s show will be “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin taking on the World Heavyweight Champion, The Undertaker in an non title match.
1) The Brian Kendrick w/ Ezekiel Jackson & Maryse defeated. Paul London - These two have been going at it since Kendrick attacked his then partner, London several weeks ago, officially splitting up the team. A fun opening match to kick off the show. The finish to the match eventually arrived with London countering the Sliced Bread #2 with a super kick, then climbing to the top rope. Maryse climbed to the ring apron on the opposite side, getting the referee’s attention, which allowed Ezekiel Jackson to threw Paul from to top rope to the canvas. London would get up slowly, but Kendrick would be waiting where he successfully hit Sliced Bread#2 and hooked the leg for the three count.
The cameras cut to the back where Vickie Guerrero is with the rest of La Familia, where she is screaming about Triple H always trying to embarrass her and ruin her days. Suddenly, Armando Estrada walks in to the room with his Samoan savage, Umaga. Estrada says that it’s a crime that Triple H has been allowed to run his mouth all these years in the WWE and that he feels it’s about time someone shuts it. Estrada asks Vickie to let Umaga be the one to team with Hawkins n’ Ryder so he can shut Triple H up once and for all. Vickie smiles and agrees, shaking Estrada’s hand.
2) Vladimir Kozlov defeated. Ricky Slayer - The local kid, Ricky Slayer tried to start the match off strong by attacking Kozlov in the corner but the Russian master of sambo threw Slayer away with ease, and thus began the next four minutes that may be remembered as “The massacre of Ricky Slayer” After throwing the unknown, Slayer around, Kozlov eventually finished the match with his devastating battering ram head butt, winning the match by pinfall.
The cameras turn to the back where Eve Torres is standing by with Kenny Dykstra, Nic Nemeth, & Rob Terry. Dykstra claims that Finlay & Sheamus have had a free ride as WWE Tag Team Champions thus far and haven’t been defending champions as they should be. Nemeth takes over the mic time and tells the tag team champions that their days as champions are numbered because they’re coming for the belts.
The cameras turn else where in the backstage area where Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder clap Umaga on the back who in return reacts as if he’s about to kill the two men. Estrada quickly calms Umaga down and the commentators put over the 3-on-2 handicap match, which is coming up next.
3) Triple H & Mr. Kennedy defeated. Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder & Umaga w/ Chavo Guerrero & Armando Estrada - The numbers advantage of Hawkins, Ryder, & Umaga allowed them to dominate a lot of this decently timed match with short bursts of Kennedy, and Triple H gaining momentum only for “The Samoan Bulldozer” to sent them back down crashing to the canvas. Eventually, HHH & Kennedy would get momentum going there way, Hunter even managing to hit the pedigree on Umaga just after back body dropping both Hawkins and Ryder over the ropes to the outside of the ring. The pedigree wasn’t enough to put the #1 contender to the World Title, who powered out at a late two but just as he did, Chavo, Hawkins, & Ryder all hit the ring to pounce on Triple H. The referee called for the bell as Chavo wasn’t in the match, and Edge quickly ran down to the ring to join in on the assault. Kennedy & Triple H tried their best to fight back but the numbers game was against them and they quickly fell. Umaga squashed both men with a top rope splash and La Familia stood tall over the fallen soldiers of Smackdown.
A short video package plays highlighting the Hardy Boyz/Colon Brothers that ends with Lita making a surprise return last week to aid her friends in evening the odds again Primo, Carlito, & Rosa Mendez, Following the video package, a graphic appears on the screen showing that at No Mercy, The Colon’s & Rosa Mendez would take on the reformation of Team Xtreme, Matt, Jeff & Lita.
4) Matt Hardy w/ Jeff Hardy & Lita vs. Primo w/ Carlito & Rosa Mendez went to a no contest - This feud has been going on for a few months now, and the crowd are still in to it heavily, maybe thanks to the return of Lita. Primo and Matt Hardy together a fun match that probably deserved a proper finish but all hell broke loose, forcing the referee to just end the match. Cool moment arrived when Lita hit the Litacarana on Primo, and the Colon’s quickly retreated from the ring.
The cameras turn to the back where Eve Torres is standing by with “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin says that he’s been giving huge opportunities in recent weeks and has came up short. He then says that tonight, he has been given the opportunity to face the World Heavyweight Champion tonight in a non-title match and he isn’t going to let this opportunity slip back, and prove to the world, why he’s known as the gold standard.
5) Nic Nemeth & Kenny Dykstra w/ Rob Terry defeated. Finlay & Sheamus - The WWE Tag Team Champions were lucky this match was a non-title match , as Nemeth & Dykstra cheated their way to victory thanks to the assist of big Rob Terry. A fun short match that came to an end with Rob Terry provoking Sheamus to come attack him, leaving Finlay open to a 2 on 1 attack, which concluded with a Michinoku Driver from Nemeth quickly followed by the top rope Leg Drop from Dykstra to put Finlay away. Following the match, Sheamus brawled with Rob Terry but was quickly attacked from behind by Nemeth & Dykstra. Terry showed great strength putting the big man, Sheamus over his shoulders in to the torture wreck, only letting go when several referees came to the ring to break it up.
The cameras turn to the titantron where a Raw rebound video is played showing highlights from this past weeks Monday Night Raw, which included the VIP lounge hosted by WWE Champion, MVP with special guest, Randy Orton. Orton is announced as the special referee for John Cena vs. MVP at No Mercy , and the two men attack John Cena.
Following the video, the commentators run down the No Mercy card so far, including the WWE Championship match as MVP puts the title on the line against John Cena with Randy Orton as special referee, as well as the World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion, Undertaker and the challenger, Umaga.
Main Event) The Undertaker defeated. Shelton Benjamin - Despite not being able to pick up the victory as he promised, Shelton certainly showed everyone why he was called the Gold Standard as he and ‘Taker put together a fine match that was given plenty of time. At times during the match, it seemed as if Shelton Benjamin had the match won, after jumping to the top rope, as only he can, surprising Undertaker with a superplex. Shelton hooked the leg, but it wasn’t enough to get the victory. The match continued and Undertaker eventually hit the choke slam but shockingly enough, Shelton kicked out at a late two. A few minutes later, Taker found himself back on the top rope, and Shelton looked to repeat what he did earlier, only this time the deadman was waiting. When Shelton jumped to the top rope, Undertaker quickly caught him by the throat and dived off the turnbuckle, connecting with a top rope choke slam. Taker crawled on top of Shelton Benjamin and picked up the victory by pinfall. Following the match, Armando Estrada slowly made his way down to the ring while talking on the mic, distracting Undertaker long enough for Umaga to slide in to the ring from behind and turn Taker around to connect with the Samoan Spike. ‘Taker would then be set up in the corner where Umaga would hit the running ass attack, crushing the deadman’s head in to the corner and he quickly followed it up with the top rope splash. Estrada took the World Championship from the ringside area and handed it to Umaga who slowly but surely raised it in to the air to close Smackdown.
