Keith Jardine (13-4-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will look to rebound from his recent loss to Wanderlei Silva when he meets Brandon Vera (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC 89, an event that takes place Oct. 18 at The NIA in Birmingham, England. Jardine today announced the fight on an Albuquerque radio show. The light heavyweight bout will likely end up on the night's main card, which currently features a headline bout between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben. However, the UFC has yet to announce the fight. Jardine most recently suffered a stunning, 36-second knockout to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84. The loss came right after the biggest win of his career -- a split-decision victory over Chuck Liddell in September 2007. With a May 2007 loss to Houston Alexander, the Team Jackson fight has now lost two of his past three fights -- the first such stretch of his seven-year career. Vera, meanwhile, will look to shake a recent three-fight funk. After a unanimous-decision loss to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77, Vera then suffered a first-round TKO to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85. He then decided to drop to 205 pounds, and though he scored a unanimous-decision victory over UFC newcomer Reese Andy at this past weekend's UFC Fight Night 14, the performance was flat and heavily criticized. The fight with Jardine is essentially a must-win for Vera, a former top heavyweight contender who had, at one time, been promised a title shot with then-champ Tim Sylvia, but a feud with his manager kept the fight from happening. Since returning from that year-long layoff, Vera -- who began his UFC career with four consecutive stoppage victories -- has posted three lackluster performances. - Iron Heart[/center]

This card started out kinda weak, but it's actually becoming quite PPV worthy.
Smart move by UFC, indeed.

I'll be honest this fight has little interest for me. I hate Jardine's crappy jerky style & Vera has not impressed in last few fights. Hopefully he can sort out his cut better this time & beat the hell out of Jardine.

I was a HUGE fan of Vera's. But he just seems to have lost that fire...he still talks like the cocky motherf***** who first showed up in the octagon saying he would hold the LHW and the HW title at the same time after his first win....But the only difference is that he used to back it up. Not so much now.

Vera's Cardio went to shit. Jardine may have this one in the bag if he can stay aggressive the whole fight.

I've never liked Jardine, so here's to hoping The Truth takes it.

I just never dug Jardines attitude. Like how he complains about every fight the UFC gives him. He complained about fighting Alexander and got the crapknocked outta him.

Should be a good fight. Vera didn't look good against Andy in his first fight at 205. Hopefully the cut is easier for him this time if that was the problem. Wondering how Jardine will bounce back mentally from getting murdered by Wand.
I'm not necessarily a fan of either fighter, but I think Jardine should be able to get inside Vera's reach. Jardine has enough power that he should be able to put Vera down for either a KO or a TKO. Can't really remember anyone testing Vera's chin, but it should be interesting to see if he can take a punch. Good fight...

Since you're new to the board, I won't go over how Iron Heart has been a dependable voice of reason, all-around quality poster, and a board regular for much, if not all, of the MMA Boards existences. I also won't go over how nitpicking about something that he does at the end of his posts is trivial, pointless, and goes a long way towards having no one take you seriously.
Oh wait.
That said, if you don't like it ignore it. And try to stay on topic.
And with that said, I'll add this: love them or hate them this'll be a "make or break" fight for both IMO. They're both coming off some shaky months. Both need a big, decisive win to put them back into title contention.
The last thing either of these guys should do is go the distance. Attack, attack, attack. A big win by a huge knockout/TKO/submission is just what they both need.
