Extreme Rules || April 25, 2010 First Mariner Arena || Baltimore, Maryland
DARK MATCH: Ezekiel Jackson def. Evan Bourne
Extreme. ECW revolutionized the concept, and WWE adapted it to their empire. Marked by violence, suffering and gruesome outcomes, extreme wrestling has been a blessing to its conquerors and a curse to its victims. Tonight, World Wrestling Entertainment goes extreme—Tables, Lumberjill, Falls Count Anywhere, Steel Cage, Last Man Standing, Extreme Rules. It will be gory. It will be painful. It will separate those who shrink in the face of adversity and those who rise to the challenge. Tonight, WWE channels its extreme roots, and its participants will never be the same again.
And now, KFC and World Wrestling Entertainment present Extreme Rules!
Pyro blazes the stage in the First Mariner Arena as Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker welcome us to Extreme Rules! They run down the list of matches and turn it over to the Spanish commentary team before the cameras pan at the dozen or so tables littered around the ring.
Intercontinental Championship: Tables Match Drew McIntyre © vs. Kofi Kingston Kofi starts off hot, charging McIntyre and connecting with a few quick strikes. McIntyre wisely ducks to the outside, but Kingston goes airborne over the rope and lands on the champion! He high-fives a fan before turning his attention back to McIntyre, who begins to crawl toward a table. McIntyre throws Kofi up; Kofi lands on his feet on the table. McIntyre swipes at Kingston’s feet; Kofi jumps in time to the guardrail, pausing for a second before leaping and landing a crossbody onto the champion! He takes the table and slides it into the ring before sliding McIntyre in. Kingston places the table up in the corner before returning his attention back to the champion. He whips McIntyre, but McIntyre reverses and whips his challenger toward the table. A testament to his athleticism, Kingston uses the table as a sort of springboard and lands on McIntyre with another crossbody! Kofi begins charging the crowd up, setting up for a Trouble in Paradise. Once McIntyre came back to his senses, he ducked out of the ring and under a preset table. Kingston followed, landing a few kicks to the gut and preparing a suplex for McIntyre through the table. The champion reverses and plants Kofi on the outside with a suplex! Both men stagger to their feet, McIntyre first, and the champion throws the challenger back into the ring. He grabs the table from the corner and violently slams it on top of Kingston. He resets the table upright, clobbering Kingston with a few shots to the gut before attempting a suplex. Kingston wiggles free, running rather gingerly but falling victim to a back body drop. The champion smiles sadistically and brings Kofi to his feet for a back suplex. Kofi tries to get out of it, reversing momentum and only taking an atomic drop that sends him bounding off the ropes. Off the rebound, McIntyre locks Kofi in and hits the back suplex, but much to his dismay misses the table by a good foot. Upset, Mr. Money in the Bank flips over the table. He picks up Kofi and strongly tosses him over the top rope, in hopes of having him crash-land through the table outside. Kingston hangs on to the rope and balances precariously on the apron. McIntyre rushes with a shoulder block but Kingston leaps to the right, landing a boot to the prone chest of the champion! Kingston catches a second wind, flying with a springboard clothesline and landing a controlled frenzy of chops and kicks. He ascends the top rope, but the crafty champion dives toward the ropes, causing Kingston to lose balance and crash to the mat. He sets the table again. McIntyre darts toward the timekeeper’s area and locates a steel chair. He brings it into the ring. Stalking Kofi on his way to his feet, McIntyre swings wildly with the chair. He misses, inadvertently tossing the chair to the outside. This allows Kofi enough time to regroup and land a Trouble in Paradise, knocking the champion prone onto the set table in the ring! The crowd cheers, realizing Kingston’s moment is now. “This is your time Kofi! McIntyre robbed you of your moment at Wrestlemania; now you can rob him of his title!” Matt Striker shouts as Kingston ascends the top rope. He taunts briefly before diving and landing a legdrop that crashes McIntyre through the table! Kofi Kingston d. Drew McIntyre to WIN the Intercontinental Championship in 9:44!
It takes a few seconds, but Kofi gets on his feet and is handed his Intercontinental Championship. He raises the belt high, celebrating with the fans. McIntyre begins to move slightly, still not realizing Kofi Kingston is the new Intercontinental Champion.
Josh Mathews is standing backstage with CM Punk. He notes that tonight, Punk has seemingly nothing to win and everything to lose. In response, Punk tells Mathews to calm down, that he has a trick up his sleeve. Uncharacteristically, he instructs Luke Gallows and Serena to remain in the back as he makes his way to the ring. A barbershop chair, complete with shaving cream and the works, sits at the end of the ramp. Rey Mysterio enters first to a rave crowd reaction. Punk enters next, alone, glancing down at the chair before entering the ring.
Extreme Rules match for CM Punk’s Hair CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio The two competitors feel each other out in the contest’s opening moments, with Mysterio gaining an early advantage with an armdrag that sends Punk to the outside. He comes back in, only for Mysterio to floor him once again with a dropkick. Mysterio attempts a baseball slide but Punk catches his legs, dragging him across the floor a few feet before swinging his smaller foe into the barricade. He throws the luchador into the ring and searches below the apron, finding a trio of kendo sticks and throwing them into the ring. Mysterio runs at Punk but the “Straight Edge Savior” ducks, using a kendo stick to trip his opponent who lands hard on his stomach. Like a sadistic drummer, Punk uses two kendo sticks and alternates swings at the gut of a downed Mysterio. He covers, but Mysterio kicks out, prompting Punk to lock in a bodyscissors. As he held on by the legs, he reached for a kendo stick, clobbering any free space on Mysterio’s body. He recovers, but once again Mysterio manages a kick out. He taunts Mysterio to his feet; Mysterio runs and Punk misses a kendo swing. He drops the cane and catches a rebounding Mysterio with a solid tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. Punk returns his focus to Mysterio’s body, cinching in an abdominal stretch. After nearly 25 seconds in the hold, Mysterio gets free and begins a gradual comeback. He ducks a clothesline and reaches for a kendo stick; Punk grabs Mysterio’s leg, but the luchador counters with an enziguri! He snatches a kendo stick and retaliates against the downed Punk, landing shot after shot all over the body. He ducks under the apron and pulls out a mini ladder. He awaits Punk’s arrival back to his feet before driving the ladder head into his sternum! He sets it up in the corner, wedging the steel on the middle rope. He charges at a groggy Punk, locking his legs in reverse for a bulldog. Punk has the move scouted, however, tossing Mysterio and dropping him on his midsection on the ladder! Mysterio writhes in pain as Punk wipes his chin and goes for a cover. Much to Punk’s dismay, his opponent kicks out with authority as the referee’s hand was coming down! The “Straight Edge Savior” exchanges pleasantries with the referee, unaware that his opponent has made it to his feet. He charges but Mysterio ducks, hitting the ropes and landing a springboard hurracarana! Soon Mysterio begins to rally, landing kicks to the legs and another enziguri. He seems poised for the victory upon countering a surprise GTS attempt into a hurracarana into the ropes. Suddenly, a man with a familiar face but a new look charges down the aisle. “Th—that’s Joey Mercury! What’s he doing here?” Cole bursts on commentary as Mercury lays Mysterio out with a sharp clothesline! Punk escapes from the ropes as Mercury drives Mysterio to the mat with a reverse DDT. Him and Punk lock eyes, and Mercury tosses the lame Mysterio to Punk, who drops his adversary down with the GTS for the decisive pinfall. CM Punk d. Rey Mysterio in 10:26!
The crowd boos in frustration as CM Punk is announced as the winner. He and Joey Mercury shake hands and celebrate as Luke Gallows and Serena make their way down the aisle. The finish of the match is replayed, and Punk sits mockingly in the barbershop chair, the rest of the Straight Edge Society grouped around. “The Straight Edge Society has grown in numbers,” Matt Striker decisively recapped. “The rest of the WWE better be put on notice.”
After a cut to the commentators, Divas began surrounding the ring in preparation of the title unification bout. A quick recap of the tension between Michelle McCool and Maryse plays and each champion enters. After individual introductions, both belts are presented and the match begins.
Divas & Women’s Championships: Lumberjill Maryse (Divas Champion) vs. Michelle McCool (Women’s Champion) It seems as though the lumberjills choose sides, with half—a healthy mix of fan favorites and villains—both figuratively and literally in the corner of Michelle McCool and the other half firmly behind Maryse. The two women circle around before locking up. McCool gains the advantage after a short chain wrestling sequence and feeds Maryse to her collection of lumberjills, who spare no expense stomping the Divas Champion before tossing her back into the ring. McCool covers—two count. Back on her feet, Maryse ducks a McCool clothesline and whips the Women’s Champion into her pack of lumberjills. Those women deliver an equal level of punishment to McCool before sending her back to Maryse, who covers for a two count. They both rise to their feet, the lumberjills exciting the crowd. The tie up, and McCool lands a gut kick. She paces back a few steps before connecting with a neckbreaker for a near fall. The Women’s Champion gains control, landing a suplex and Russian legsweep, both for near falls. McCool slaps in a headlock; Maryse reaches her feet, planting a desperation atomic drop. Having gained separation she charges but is caught by a big boot! McCool covers but the Divas Champion miraculously kicks out at two! She argues with the referee before tossing Maryse toward the ropes. She doesn’t go over, however, so McCool rushes her. Maryse ducks, and McCool flies over the rope onto the lumberjills! They all slowly rise up, McCool sneaking into the ring before the lumberjills can get their hands on her. Maryse takes the opportunity to roll McCool up, but she kicks out. They fight toward the other side of the ring, where Maryse reverses a McCool suplex and pushes the Women’s Champion through the middle rope and onto the other crowd of lumberjills! These ladies begin kicking away at McCool before sending her battered body back into the ring. The Divas Champion senses the opportunity. She attains a facelock—setting up for her French Kiss DDT—but McCool shoves her away toward the ropes. Layla grabs Maryse’s ankles as she attempts to run back, causing her to fall to the mat. The referee does not see the deviousness, and McCool has ample opportunity to set up and connect with Faith Breaker and pick up a historic victory. Michelle McCool d. Maryse to UNIFY the Divas and Women’s Championships in 6:33!
McCool is handed both the Divas and her Women’s Championships She clutches both, one in each arm, posing for the crowd. Some lumberjills seem to fully welcome the reign of McCool, while others look on in disdain. Nevertheless, Michelle McCool has become the undisputed Women’s Champion in WWE.
We cut to the back, where now former Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre is being tended to in the trainer’s room. In walks Vince McMahon, and the two share a stare. McIntyre goes to speak but Vince cuts him off, speaking simply and directly to his “Chosen One.” “You can choose one of two courses of action from here. You can either try and reclaim that belt, or you can work to earn yourself a different one.” McMahon looks at McIntyre’s Money in the Bank Briefcase before leaving McIntyre to heal and contemplate.
Falls Count Anywhere Match Sheamus vs. Triple H As Triple H was performing his entrance on the apron, Sheamus knocked him off with a clubbing blow, the match beginning abruptly. Sheamus follows after Triple H, Irish whipping him into the ring post. He tosses “The Game” back into the ring, but not before clobbering him brutally with forearms on the apron. He goes in and covers but Triple H kicks out early. Sheamus undoes a turnbuckle, exposing the metal underneath, then another. Trips gets up; Sheamus takes the opportunity to Irish whip Trips into the exposed turnbuckle. When he rebounds off, the Irishman complements one Irish whip with another, right into the other exposed turnbuckle! Rebounding again, Sheamus catches his heated adversary and connects with a backbreaker, spending an extra few seconds stretching “The Game’s” back over his leg. This amasses a two-count, and Sheamus retreats to the outside, finding a lead pipe under the ring. He brings it in and swings, but Triple H ducks it and connects with a strong spinebuster! He rolls out of the ring and pulls up the apron up. Still in pain, H forces a half-smile as a sledgehammer reveals itself in his possession. The sledgehammer-wielding Triple H meets a few feet away from the bat-carrying Sheamus. The crowd’s audio levels raise in anticipation of which weapon will deal the most damage. Both charge and swing their items, each of them serving as a shield from the other’s attack. This occurs until Sheamus snaps the sledgehammer by the handle with a home run swing! In disbelief, H fails to see the bat slam into his chest, knocking “The Game” to the arena floor. Sheamus covers out there but only earns a two-count. He goes for an Irish whip over the barricade but H reverses, sending the Irishman over the barricade! He goes tot strike Sheamus but is countered, eventually on the receiving end of a suplex over the barricade. The action would not return to the ring, as both men began brawling about the crowd in the First Mariner Arena. At one point, H lands a neckbreaker on the concrete for a long two count. He took a second to exchange pleasantries with the referee but upon return fell victim to a Brogue Kick! Instead of covering the prone Triple H, Sheamus decides to add insult to injury. Grabbing his opponent by the arms, Sheamus drags Triple H up the stairs of the First Mariner Arena! About halfway up the grandstands, H wriggles free, grabbing a hold of the railing as to not slide down the stairs. He reaches his feet, striking Sheamus a few times and sending the “Celtic Warrior” retreating up the steps. Triple H follows suit, but the veteran had a trick up his sleeve. He motions toward a nearby seating box, where Jamie Noble peaks his head out! The commentators play up how Sheamus ended the career of Noble as he pulls a second sledgehammer from his box seat and hands it to Triple H! H smiles and turns his attention to Sheamus, regaining himself near the curtain. Upon recognition of Triple H, he darts out of the curtain and into the concession area. “The Game” follows in hot pursuit, landing a sledgehammer shot to the gut! He covers but Sheamus kicks out at two. Sheamus staggers to his feet and H darts the sledgehammer at his head! He ducks, sending the hammer into an abandoned snack stand. He goes to retrieve his weapon while Sheamus catches his breath. Sledgehammer in hand, Triple H begins toward Sheamus but is flattened with a surprise Brogue Kick! The “Celtic Warrior” pins but purposely raises Triple H’s shoulders, breaking the count. He sits “The Game” up and grabs the sledgehammer. An audible “Oooh!” comes from the crowd as Sheamus lands a sledgehammer shot to the face of Triple H! He tosses the hammer against the wall and confidently gains the pinfall on the floor near the concession stands. Sheamus d. Triple H in 11:53!
Sheamus proudly stands over the battered Triple H backstage as his theme blares in the arena. He strides out to the fans while replays cover the barbaric nature of this match. Cameras come back to Sheamus, who watches the replays with a sadistic smile before turning around and taunting the crowd before cameras fade to black.
A video package plays, documenting the ongoing feud between John Cena and Batista. It starts off plainly with Batista saying, “John, you can’t beat me.” Highlights from both their Summerslam 2008 and Wrestlemania XXVI encounters play, mostly those pertaining to Batista being on the offensive. Cena speaks: “I have never given up and I have never quit my entire life. I will not back down from a fight and I will reclaim what’s mine!” The package ends with a still image of Batista standing tall at Wrestlemania with the familiar voice once again saying, “John, you can’t beat me.”
WWE Championship: Last Man Standing Batista © vs. John Cena The two lock eyes in the center of the ring before trading strong right hands. When it seemed Cena had the upper hand in the brawl, Batista slid to the outside. Cena followed, taking the champion by the head and whipping him into the barricade. He clobbers with a few rights before running at Batista. The champ counters, sending Cena back-first over the guardrail and onto the concrete floor! Both Batista and the referee follow into the crowd, where Batista whips Cena into some technical equipment. Cena bounces off in agony and falls victim to a spinebuster. He gets up by the count of five, but finds himself back onto the floor soon after, courtesy of a gut kick/butterfly suplex combo. This time, Cena gets up at seven, and Batista sets up for a powerbomb on the concrete. Cena counters, sending the champion back first onto the arena floor! He raises Batista up, planting the champ with a fisherman suplex through a draped table! “That’s not enough, that’s not enough,” Cena speaks to himself, a sign that the challenger fears the champion will get back up. He snatches another table nearby and begins walking back toward the ring. To his credit, Batista rises back up at seven and enters pursuit toward his challenger. Cena gets the table over the barricade before Batista clobbers him with a shot to the back. He throws Cena over the barricade and back into the ring. Before reentering the ring himself, “The Animal” locates two garbage cans under the ring and tosses them in too. Cena stirs around; Batista picks him up and violently slams him onto a garbage can! Not wasting time, he lifts Cena up and plants him with a spinebuster onto the other can! Both trashcans are bent and Cena is broken in the middle of the ring, the referee starting his count to Batista’s enjoyment. Each shout of the referee’s count has the fans more and more anxious; worried that Cena may not get up. The crowd litters the arena with cheers as Cena staggers to his feet by the count of eight, much to Batista’s dismay. He whips Cena out of the ring, followed by a hard whip into the steel steps that knocked half of the stairs clean off its position! He grabs the wayward steps as the referee counts and positions them by the Spanish announce table, of which he removes the monitors. Cena rises to his feet by eight, and Batista grabs him and pulls him toward the steps. He sets up for a Batista Bomb, but Cena escapes and lands a surprise Attitude Adjustment from the stairs, crashing Batista through the Spanish announce table! The crowd gets rowdy as Cena staggers to his feet by five, leaving the champion squirming around the destroyed table trying to get up. He does so by nine, and a focused Cena tosses his adversary back into the ring. He hits a shoulder tackle, and another, and ducks a clothesline, countering into a spinout slam. The crowd echoes as Cena gives a “You can’t see me,” to Batista before rebounding off the ropes and landing a Five Knuckle Shuffle! Cena retrieves the steel steps from the outside as the referee counts. Batista rises to his feet by six and ducks a shot with the steps. They fall, and Batista capitalizes on the mistake with a vicious Batista Bomb onto the steps! The fans gasp as Batista catches his breath in the corner, awaiting the referee’s long count to ten. Much to his dismay, Cena gets up with the help of the ropes by nine. He immediately crashes back down to the mat; enraged, “The Animal” grabs the steps and throws them down at Cena. He dodges, however, rolling and falling to the outside. He chucks the stairs out to Cena, who once again ducks them by a hair. The WWE Champion follows, striking Cena down the entrance ramp. At one point, Cena ducks a clothesline and locks Batista in the STF on the ramp! He lets go after a tight fifteen-second hold, waiting for Batista to get up. He does, and Cena lifts him for an AA. The champ gets out and makes his way briskly to the stage. He seems to be trying to pull a beam from the stage display off, but was unsuccessful as his challenger makes his way to the stage. Cena raises Batista onto his shoulders for another Attitude Adjustment. This time, Batista wriggles free, running at John Cena and spearing him off the stage, both men slamming onto the ground below! The crowd goes wild in astonishment; both men stay down on the stage. The referee begins his count, both men still out and the fans growing louder with each passing second. Both begin to stir around at the ref’s count of five. The count is up to eight, and Batista uses the stage to reach his feet while Cena tries vigorously to stand on his own power. The count reaches nine, and Batista is up, holding onto the stage for leverage. The referee’s count hits ten; Cena collapses back down but Batista is standing, giving him the victory. Batista d. John Cena to RETAIN the WWE Championship in 20:37!
Batista is handed the WWE Championship, but unlike Wrestlemania he collapses down to the same lame position John Cena is in. Referees and medical personnel attend to both the champion and challenger while the commentators run down the more gruesome spots in the match.
Christian is seen walking in the back when he stops and greets Edge. The two wish each other good luck in their respective matches. Edge tells his friend that when he wins the World Heavyweight Championship, Christian is more than welcome to come out and celebrate with him. Christian nods and walks off, losing his smile with each passing step.
Grudge Match Christian vs. Cody Rhodes Both men trade arm drags to begin the match with Rhodes able to convert into an arm lock. Christian rises to his feet, pushing Rhodes off the ropes. He ducks, then leapfrogs, then lands a solid dropkick to the chest for a one count. Rhodes gets up, running at Christian near the corner. “Captain Charisma” ducks it through the ropes, kicking Rhodes in the head and forcing his opponent to the outside. He bounces off the ropes and leaps onto Rhodes on the floor! The crowd cheers as Christian pounds his chest before returning Rhodes and himself into the ring. A quick cover yields only a two count and Christian spends a second planning his next attack. He stalks Rhodes to his feet and immediately sends him back down with a reverse DDT; another near fall has Christian once again planning his attack. This one does not prove to be effective, as Rhodes counters and sends Christian into the middle rope by the neck. He stomps at “Captain Charisma” as the crowd begins to boo. A “Let’s go Christian,” chant is halted when Rhodes utilizes a springboard suplex to subdue Christian. Rhodes went on an offensive streak, where none of Christian’s attempts at reversing worked. The son of a son of a plumber connects with a go-down throat thrust when Christian tries to duck him running the ropes. “Captain Charisma” goes to the corner, sticking his feet out to block a charging Rhodes. He approaches his opponent but is met with a picture perfect dropkick. Christian’s opportunity came when Rhodes missed a moonsault. With Rhodes reeling, the fans will Christian to his feet and he begins an offense onslaught. A clothesline, and another, a third, and a half-nelson facebuster greet Rhodes as the fans are firmly in the corner of “Captain Charisma.” He locks Rhodes’ arms for the Killswitch, but Rhodes shoves him off, dropping his adversary with a jumping DDT. He goes for a dropkick while Christian is down but it’s dodged. Christian senses the opportunity. He beckons Rhodes to his feet and intertwines his arms with his opponent’s. The Killswitch looks to be set up, but Rhodes shoves Christian in the direction of the referee. “Captain Charisma” stops himself in time, taking a split-second to regain himself. This proves to be too long, however, as Rhodes senses his own opportunity and plants Christian with a Cross Rhodes for the victory. Cody Rhodes d. Christian in 7:19!
The crowd boos; Rhodes rises to his feet with a raised hand and an arrogant smile. He looks down at the fallen Christian before exiting up the ramp. Christian stirs up with his head in his hands. He paces back and forth before grabbing a microphone. “You know, you’ve seen me wrestle this year, and I haven’t done such a good job. I lost the ECW Championship to Ezekiel Jackson, I lost Money in the Bank, I lost here. I haven’t had a win in God knows how long. I am better than this. You deserve to see a better Christian—I owe it to you. I’m gonna go to the back, pack up my things, and get to the bottom of this. I don’t know when I’ll be back—it may be next week, next month, next year—but I won’t return until I’m sure I can perform at the level that I’m capable of. Sorry, and thank you.” He leaves solemnly as the commentators discuss Christian’s words.
The lights dim, and the steel cage lowers from the rafters. A video package plays, highlighting Edge’s spear through the barricade at Wrestlemania and Randy Orton’s entry into the rivalry. Orton enters first, not taking his eyes off the cage during his entrance. Edge enters next, and the highlights of Edge vs. Orton from Raw play. The champion enters last with a disturbed yet engaged look on his face. He enters the cage, holding the title as Justin Roberts makes introductions before handing it over to the referee.
World Heavyweight Championship: Steel Cage Chris Jericho © vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton All three men stare each other down, equidistant from one another. Jericho is the first to move, scrambling to climb the cage first. Edge and Orton each grab one leg and pull Jericho down, hammering him until he hits the mat. They then turn to each other and begin trading blows. Edge gains the upper hand, ducking a clothesline and hitting an early Edge-O-Matic and has a cover broken up by Jericho. The World Champion snatches Edge and lands a northern lights suplex for a cover broken up by Orton. Orton and Jericho begin chain wrestling, with Orton whipping his adversary into Edge who wisely plants him with a flapjack. He and Orton go back to trading blows but this time “The Viper” gains an advantage with a gut kick. He grabs Edge by the hair and flings him into the cage, bouncing his head off the steel. He covers but Edge kicks out. Jericho sees his two opponents fighting and darts up the cage. Orton goes to whip Edge but is countered and sent face-first into the steel, shaking the cage and draping Jericho on the top rope! Edge then lands a dropkick that wedges Jericho between the ropes and the steel. Orton recovers and whips Edge into Jericho; the champion hits the mat and Edge falls victim to a powerslam for a two count. Orton begins to climb the cage, his first plan for pinfall unsuccessful, but Jericho clenches onto his leg. Eventually Orton gets free, but the crafty World Champion leaps from the corner and dropkicks Orton off the cage! Jericho crawls over to the reeling Orton for the pin but it’s broken up by Edge. The two who clashed at Wrestlemania meet face-to-face before trading a sequence of maneuvers, which culminates in Edge on the receiving end of an enziguri. Orton capitalizes on one downed opponent by delivering his patented neckbreaker onto Jericho for a near fall. The crowd gets louder and louder as Orton tosses the World Champion into each side of the cage in succession before dropping him with a spike DDT! He would cover but he sees Edge climbing in the opposite corner. He follows in pursuit, and the two fight on the top rope. Orton headbutts Edge and tosses him back to the ring, where Jericho catches him with a surprise Codebreaker! “The Rated R Superstar” bounces and crashes on the mat; Jericho goes to cover but Orton lands on both of them, flying off the top to break the pin! “The Viper” enters a fierce zone, planting Jericho with a pair of clotheslines before hitting a powerslam. He stalks the champion to his feet, the crowd giddy with anticipation of a new champion. He sets for the RKO but Jericho pushes off and darts toward the door. “COME ON, open it!” He shouts, staring back as Orton gradually moves closer. The door finally opens but by the Orton is there and pulls the champion back to the center of the ring. He grabs Jericho by the head, mouthing some words before turning around for an RKO. Once again, Jericho pushes Orton off of him and his opponent runs into a surprise Spear from Edge that shook the ring! Orton rolls around on the mat in pain as Jericho refuses to allow Edge time to gain momentum, grabbing his legs and locking Edge in the Walls of Jericho! “That might give him a submission victory but it also ensures Edge can’t climb the cage to win!” Striker shouts as Edge tries to free himself. He escapes the hold after about fifteen seconds and counters a Codebreaker by hotshotting Jericho on the ropes. Off the rebound he connects with a Downward Spiral and the crowd is on their feet. Edge throws Jericho over the ropes, trapping him in between the cage and the ropes. He attempts a crossbody through the ropes but Jericho dodges, sending “The Rated R Superstar” into the cage! Edge is down. Randy Orton is down. Jericho stirs to his feet, climbing the cage. Edge begins a gradual crawl toward the door. Orton starts moving, with his eyes locked on Jericho from the moment he gets to his feet. He preys on Jericho, not paying attention to Edge nearing the cage door. Orton locks his hands on Jericho’s ankle, swinging it out and sending Y2J falling toward him. The prone Jericho falls straight into an RKO, but in that time, Edge has found his way out of the cage and onto the stairs! Orton makes a leap toward the door, but to no avail, as Edge lands on the floor and the bell sounds. Edge d. Chris Jericho & Randy Orton to WIN the World Heavyweight Championship in 19:48!
The crowd erupts as Edge is handed the World Heavyweight Championship. Orton turns toward the door, still open, disappointed he failed to account the other participant in the match. Jericho begins to stir around as Edge makes his way up the ramp, looking around but not finding his friend Christian. Jericho and Orton stare in anguish as Edge raises his World Heavyweight Championship high as Extreme Rules comes to a close.
