Damn it Hideki Matsui, stop having success in LA. What a play by Buehrle. I want nothing more than to see Matsui successful. He should have never left NY. It was a stupid decision by the Yankees. I hope he stays 100% all year, plays some LF...just to really drive home the fact that he would have been worth the effort for the Yankees to keep.

And this is a perfct example of a fan letting emotion toward a player get to him. Hideki Matsui was a very good Yankee, a clutch Yankee. However, he is an aging baseball player who has bad knees that wanted to play in the outfield. His last game as a Yankee was a perfect send off and hopefully he has success with the Angels.

I agree. I hope Matsui does awesome and shows the Yankees what a horrible job the Yankees did this offseason. I wish him all the best except when he plays us.
Any bonehead can see that:
Johnny Damon (LF) + Hideki Matsui are FAR BETTER than Brett Gardner (LF) and Nick Johnson (DH).
I don't care what anybody says after opening night and him getting 2 hits, Brett Gardner will NOT be the Yankees starting left fielder in 50 games, and Nick Johnson will spend at LEAST 50 games on the DL.

Does Curtis Granderson not count because hes black? Because I am pretty sure its Damon - Granderson/ Johnson - Matsui I'm not sure if they re-designed the pattern of the baseball field since the last time I saw a game (Sunday),.....but I'm pretty sure that large area that Curtis Granderson stands on is Center Field. So, when comparing how the Yankees would do with either Damon in left and Matsui as the DH OR Gardner in left and Johnson as the DH....Curtis Granderson doesn't affect that equation at all. I'd love to have Damon in left, Granderson in center, and Matsui as the DH. I think the team would be a lot better....but that's not what happened and the Yankees are just going to have to make the best of it....AKA make some sort of trade in June/July after Gardner, Winn and Thames all fail.

However, he is an aging baseball player who has bad knees that wanted to play in the outfield. His last game as a Yankee was a perfect send off and hopefully he has success with the Angels. What is so terrible about LIKING a player and wanting him on your team??? Matsui didn't need to play the outfield for the Yankees. I think if they had just given him the money he deserved he would have been fine DHing...and always a possible fill-in role for LF if need be. It's not like his legs were made of sand. Why do so many people have the mentality that players should leave "on top?" Matsui easily has 2-3 more productive hitting years ahead of him. He should have finished his career in NY. To sum it up...I'd rather have Matsui as my DH than Nick Johnson. Damon was a whole 'nother story. I laugh at everyone who trashes Johnny Damon because of his "lack of arm" yet Brett "The Future" Gardner made a throw to home plate Sunday night that could've hit someone in the stands...let alone anywhere near home plate. Again I can't think of ONE GAME that Damon's arm cost the Yankees last year. It's a terrible argument. Of course, it was him & Boras' own damn faults for not accepting the 2yr/14 million option...but still... ah whatever, it's game 1 of the season...there is a long way to go.

I'm sorry. I REFUSE to give the Phillies too much credit. It was the ing Nats. The Nats man. Our WFigs MLB team, with Ralpho on the mound, could beat the Nats. Yes, Halladay was the ace we knew he would be and pitched an outstanding game. But the rest of the team cant be credited with too much. I've never seen anybody over-simplify sports as much as you do... but I agree. How dare those Phillies score only 11 runs? They're playing the Nats! The Nats! A pack of bums is what those rotten Phillies are. The Nats!

After that thrilling and impressive victory, its clear The Phillies are the WS Champs for 2010. Everyone else is playing for 2nd. I mean they did put 11 runs up and ON THE ROAD no less.

I hope he stays 100% all year, plays some LF...just to really drive home the fact that he would have been worth the effort for the Yankees to keep. My comment was mis-worded. I absolutely loved Matsui, he did WONDERFUL things in New York, and he was a massive reason for us winning the World Series. By far our best hitter in the series. The reason I was mad he did well in his first LA game is because it sucks seeing him on another team. That being said, I am not going to agree with Lorenzo. I understand why they let him go, there are huge health concerns and he is aging. That being said, so is Nick Johnson. I don't understand why they didn't make ANY effort to resign him. They should have offered him the same deal they had on the table for Johnson and if he declines, alright fair enough, take Johnson. As for the Damon situation, hate for it to come back up again but ill comment on it. I am glad they didn't give him the 2-year deal. I wish they would have offered the extra money they came up with to sign Park and added it to the 1-year, $5 million they offered Damon and see if that would have gotten it done. But then again, for the price he signed, its fine that they let him go. If what Gardner showed Sunday is any indication, we will be fine with him in left field. He made that one bad throw, but he is a great defender and plays hard ALL the time. He busts it out of the box every time and on every play. I like him.

So it's Kershaw facing off against Ohlendorf tomorrow. Pitching wise, this could be a very good game.
With that being said though, I just hope the Pirates can carry over some of that success from yesterday's game and pull out another win.

If the Angels fall out of contention, the Stankees could just trade for Matsui in July.

Every year I make at least one fantastic waiver wire move that gets me to the finals. Garrett Jones might be THAT guy.

There is no way he keeps hitting like he has and Pedro Alvarez is coming as is Jeff Clement.
