Leviticus 20:13: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."You said yourself that the laws from the Old Testament did not carry over to the New Testament, which is true. Who's picking and choosing now? You asked for a passage and I provided it. But clearly we are getting nowhere so it's pointless to continue this debate, I hate religion because of it's brainwashing, fear mongering, bigotry, contradictions and it's illogical fairy tale stories and I also feel that it impedes progress (see homosexuals and marriage). I don't want to try and convert anybody to Atheism but I will provide what I have discovered in my own life and experiences in hopes that others will become enlightened free thinkers as well. And if not, well as long as you're happy that's all that matters. It just saddens me to know how many homosexuals have committed suicide, got disowned by their parents, got beat up and sometimes killed and live miserable existences because they can't be who they want to because they're afraid. But at least answer me this, you mentioned before that Christians get persecuted, well do you know of any Christians that got disowned by family members because of their faith, or committed suicide because of their faith (and yes I'm aware that suicide is a straight to hell sin but I'm just using it as an example) or have to keep their new found faith a secret? I don't hear about Christians getting the kind of treatment homosexuals have been getting for years. And it's all because of fanatical religious views. I wouldn't be so against religion if it wasn't used as a fear mongering tool to keep people in line.

To agree with Izzy, the only reason sin was punishable by death in the Old Testament, was because:
1. There was no Jesus in the Old Testament to Take the sin away.
2. God said at the dawn of time when Adam and Eve ate from the tree, that the punishment for sin was, and is, death.
When Jesus came and took our sins on His shoulders when he was crucified, sins were forgiven and the Old Law passed away. That's how the Bible clearly explains it.
And Cobra, maybe not in the United States, but Christians ARE the most persecuted group in the world. Statistically, more Christians have been killed for their beliefs throughout history and presently, than any other ethnic or religious group.

I am one of those people. You think it's awesome going through highschool being called "church boy", "goody two shoes"? How about being told by members of my own family that God is getting in the way of me having a "good and enjoyable life"? Surely that's okay right? No. This sort of stuff happens all the time. Every single day Christians are made to feel like they're mindless idiots who've never read any other book but the Bible. How fair is that? But I suppose that because we're not out killing ourselves that it's okay to talk about Christians and treat them the way you do right? Absolutely not. You don't realize it because of your hatred for religion and because of the fact that you've never attempted to live this lifestyle as an adult, in THIS GENERATION. I go to Bible class 3 times a week and Church twice on Sunday. You think that I've never been told how "ridiculous" that is? Fact is, you can't claim that it's any easier on one party than it is the other because you're not living wither lifestyle. If Christianity were an easy lifestyle to live, then many more people would be doing it, trust me.

I wouldn't deny that at all, my mother was a missionary in China and you wouldn't believe the stuff they do to their people that convert to Christianity. But I do believe homosexuals are persecuted just as much if not more mainly because of the kind of persecution they get here in the good ol US of A. I'm also aware of the point of Jesus' birth and death was to wash away the sins of the world so you wouldn't have to be put to death. However, the fact that homosexuality is considered a sin is what upsets me. I firmly believe that homosexuality is a choice no more than being left handed and I've got logic and science to back that up. And ironically at one time a person who was left handed were considered to be either intellectually- disabled or possessed or something. Thankfully we've progressed beyond that nonsense, but unfortunately homosexuality has not gotten the same treatment. I just don't think that's right.

Also, when I was full fledged Christian every one knew and I never once got picked on or called names because of it. But if I was gay instead of a Christian, my life would've been a hell of a lot more miserable growing up.

I'll agree with you as well in saying that I think people are born with a natural attraction to either A.) Men or B.) Women. I think people can be born with an attraction to either sex without a choice. HOWEVER, I think homosexuals have a choice whether to follow that lifestyle or not. The attraction, at least to me, isn't the sin. It's the practice, or putting the 'attraction into action' that is the sin. I think everyone is born with a natural desire of something sinful. For example, I naturally have a desire to have sex with every attractive woman I come across. That's natural for me. However, that doesn't give me the right to put that 'attraction into action.' Sex outside of marriage, according to what I personally believe, is wrong. And even though that is a natural desire of mine, I choose not to give into it because I beleive it is wrong. I beleive the same applies to those that are homosexual. Obviously, if they are not Christians, then they might not even have an idea of why what they practice is considered wrong. I believe that God created man and woman to have separate, but equal responsibilities and roles, and to be perfect companions for one another. If people don't know, or don't understand God's intentions for man and woman's partnership, than they are naturally going to feel persecuted by the church. And of course, it's a two way street. A lot of folks who claim to be 'Christians' prejudice against not only homosexuals, but others as well. And that is totally, totally wrong. I hope I've made my reasoning a little clearer, I know I didn't really do a good job of explaining my stance earlier in this thread.

My point is that both are attempts to make one feel wrong for the way they live. Neither is acceptable. Point blank. I've personally never done that to anyone. I've never gone up to a gay person and bashed them with what I believe. Everyone I know, knows my stance on it and it stands at that. So to be lumped together with the minority of radical Christians is absurd.

A person shouldn't have to deny who they really are. If they are gay, they are gay, it's not right for them to stuff away their true feelings. It's against one of the commandments to bear false witness, not be a homosexual.

To Yeezy: I don't know that I fully believe that people are born with a homosexual desire, as it isn't natural. But, I believ that Satan can cause it. I mean, children are born with Autism, Downs Syndrome, AIDS, you name it, every day and those aren't natural either.
I'm not fully on board with either stance, but I think that someone being born with a attraction to the same sex is at least conceivable.

And here's where I get called an un-educated bigot.
From a CHRISTIAN standpoint, homosexuality is a sin. Just like murder is a sin. Just like premarital sex is a sin. Just like over indulging in alcohol and drugs is a sin. You can go on and on. People worldwide are tempted with these things each day, and just because it is something that they are tempted by and even though it seems natural to them, it doesn't make it right. Strictly from a Christian perpective. From a non-Christian standpoint, it may make no sense at all. But to me, at least, it makes sense because I believe that God said it's wrong. God said some of the things that I do are wrong too, and when I mess up, admit that I messed up, ask for forgiveness He offers it freely.
I understand why you may not get what I'm saying if you're not familiar with Christian theology. I'm just stating what I believe.

that's perfectly acceptable for you to have your own views and beliefs and no one has the right to tell you that they're incorrect.
however, there are no laws to keep men from having sex with every woman they want (if the woman is inclined as well). there IS a law to keep homosexuals from marrying. this is wrong and everyone, despite their stance on homosexuality, should agree with this.
god himself gave us free will. these laws forbidding the union of gays in marriage are in no way 'god's ruling'. they are withholding rights that you and i have to others, fellow people, no different than you and i.
basically, rather you think these people are committing sins or not is up to you, but the fact is they should have the free will to indulge in those sins if they choose to. it is their mortal soul, not a state or country's.
they should have the free will to sin, as we all do.
is that not only reasonable?

Sure, we have free will, and I don't believe that people should vote on this matter, as Constitutionally banning homosexual marriage is unequal. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly that it is Un-Constitutional. I agree with equality, as a matter of fact I'd like to see equality for everyone. Doesn't mean I have to agree with the lifestyle.
I mean, I think homosexuality is wrong, but, is it my place to judge others and deny them that opportunity? Whether I think it's wrong or not? No. It's not my place.

Oh, and one other thing. Yeezy's Mullet had said earlier that he's not convinced that people don't choose to be homosexual, maybe you should take a look at this: All this video did was: 1. Go out of it's way to make Christians look stupid. I have a hard time taking biased documentaries seriously. 2. Presented a bunch of theories and "likely" statistics. I'd be shocked if you had done more research on the issue than the makers of that video and the organisations it listed which have researched it. Also, as i have previously stated, Marriage is NOT soley a christian institution. Marriage is common among all religions and atheism. You do not believe in Islam, does that mean muslims shouldn't marry? It doesn't have to happen in church, and chuches that do accept it are ones that you can easily just avoid. This is just another one of those great big divides in christianity that makes the whole religion a shambles to me, but that's beside the point that i was making that when people marry, it is not always "In the eyes of the lord" some people get married simply to show dedication to one another. You're not going to change your mind, i know this, but the fact you think how you do is deeply upsetting, and it does shake me that you don't see this as depriving equal rights. There is no way to sugar coat it.

Murder = Taking the life of another human being and doing a great deal of harm to one or more people. Homosexuality = A natural attraction between two people of the same sex that just want to live in peace and happiness like any other happy couple. Harming not a single soul in the process. Surely I can't be the only one to see the insanity in this.

I mean, I think homosexuality is wrong, but, is it my place to judge others and deny them that opportunity? Whether I think it's wrong or not? No. It's not my place. This is my whole point. The people of NC have no place legislating what they perceive is a "sin". I'm pretty comfortable saying that being there's no secular reason I've heard to ban same sex marriage. As I said, thinking same sex marriage is wrong (which I'll never understand) isn't exactly bigotry, enforcing that it's wrong is bigotry.

No. It's not my place. i respect that a great deal.

That's why I am not a christian. Because what he's said is right, a true christian, who believes in the bible, should believe these things are sins and wrong and worthy of hell. The idea that "Oh well gods mind would have changed over time" is utter poppycock. Homosexuality had been around way before the bible. The god that is portayed is not one that i particularly like or agree with. I believe religions were created to give order and purpose to lives, as well as ease a fear of death by promising peace in it. In modern society, I feel we should let our sense of humanity that developed over years guide us, religion is no longer relevent, and the potential problems from it, such as the oppression of homosexuals, are just no longer worth it. I will never talk down to someone who believes there is some form of god, or higher power in the universe, but when you start to turn that idea into a religion, and start to follow one of the many, many religions out there just suiting what you want to believe the most, then I begin to take issue to it. And to the matter at hand, this shouldn't have been a debate on religion. MARRIAGE IS NOT JUST FOR CHRISTIANS.
