It has been said a few times on this thread already, and I concur...at least they are attempting to build some new stars. That is a positive thing, regardless of whether I personally see the potential or agree with the individuals they're putting time, effort and money into. I hope for guys like Roman's sake, and the wrestling industry that those creating the characters, stories and direction are able to avoid the apparent ADHD that often plagues WWE management in this regard. Get some long term vision, have the balls to stick with what works and what you believe in, and pay attention to what the people "need", cause what they "want" isn't always what's "Best for Business" (there's a lot of fans out there who's ADHD is WAY more outta control than the guys and gals steering the ship in the WWE).

Even if you could compare the situation to Bret/Luger. Bret didn't get himself in a situation where he had to sit out for potentially a year or longer. Bryan is pretty much done as a main eventer, the injury couldn't have come at a worse time for him. What about Steve Austin then? Really sucks how when he got hurt he never was a main eventer again. That kid Steve Austin had a bright future. Steve Austin was the face of the company.

I see Reigns as a Batista/Orton type of character. Not one of the greatest ever in the ring. Not great on the mic. But they have the look and can put on decent matches, and believably beat someones ass.
That's really the best we can hope for from the modern WWE. The type of environment that created "Total Package" wrestlers like Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, even John Cena ... that just doesn't exist anymore. Roman Reigns will be great for the modern era.

I don't really get it. They got incredible atheletes in Ambrose and Rollins. Complete packages. Ambrose mic work is incredible, especially the past few weeks. Rollins in-ring work is solid, his mic work could improve but hey, still good. Then they got Reigns, barely any character, no real in-ring talent, he looks as uncomfortable on the mic as a straight guy in a gay bar. I really feel like out of The Shield, Ambrose and Rollins have "It". They both look good for the role they play, great physcial shape (Compare Ambrose from late 2012 to Ambrose mid 2014. Crazy how big he has gotten physically speaking.) While Reigns does a duckface and punches people. Sorry but Reigns face just looks punchable to me. Doesn't look like a threat to me like Ambrose would with his crazy eyes.
Just my opinion.

Sigh.
Roman has held his own on the mic alongside Ambrose, at times -- against the likes of Bray Wyatt, and HHH -- no easy feat.
He has created a recognizable, and unique (albeit repetitive, for the time being) move set. He's come a long way in the past two years, and is showing improvement with every stride of his career. He clearly has passion, and heart for the industry. The same thing guys like Rock, and Cena showed.
He's not an indie darling, and I have to believe that's where most of the heat comes from. If he goes into Summerslam, against HHH, and puts on a quality match, half of you will be singing his praises, that you've known he would be great from the time he first stepped in the ring. Please.
He has a better look than ANY of the younger talent. He IS in fact bigger built than either Rollins, or Ambrose. Rollins may be taller, with more definition, but I guarantee Reigns weighs in heavier, and is clearly bulkier. He has the look, the charisma, the potential on the mic, and is the overall package enough to be the Champ by next year's Wrestlemania. Wouldn't surprise me.
People are taking issue with him for his lack of mic skills -- completely negating the character they've had him playing for two years: the silent monster, who's actions speak louder than words. From my point of view, he's played his part damn well. Doesn't mean he's terrible on the mic, just means he's good at his job. I get that it's difficult for some to view anything with any sort of positivity, though, so -- we'll hang him out to dry for the character he plays, I guess. If you don't believe he has any sort of personality, look only as far as the spot he's done for the parenting segment for WWE. Earned major props from me, just for that. (Titus O'Neil too, for that matter)
I have stated it from the beginning, and will continue too -- Roman Reigns is on pace to be "The Man" in WWE -- and I can't wait. Seth Rollins may very well be the next "Jeff Hardy" of the company -- when he was at his peak Hardy -- and that's a great thing. I like the dude. And Ambrose has grown on me exponentially since the Shield breakup.
If we can't get positivity for Reigns specifically, at LEAST let's try to be grateful that WWE is utilizing someone other than Cena, Orton, Sheamus, Big Show, or Kane...thank God. #positivity folks.

In my (almost) 30 years of watching wrestling I CAN NOT think of one wrestler that had 100% of the crowd behind them. Hogan didn't. Savage didn't. Flair didn't. Hart didn't. HBK didn't. Austin didn't. Rock didn't. Triple H didn't. Orton didn't. Bryan didn't. Cena obviously has not.
There always going to be a select few that can not and will not invest in who WWE has on top. It will always be that way, and there is no point in assuming it ever will change.

he's got it, but they've structured his rise without any real twists or turns or development of character. let's see him undertake an angle where we see him beyond "I'm strong, and I'll stand against the whole world."

I like him, and I could see him as champ. Just bizarre how Ambrose was groomed for this role and now its going to Reigns.

I hate these type of threads....70% of the time they have to be locked because one side cant take critical views on their guy and the critical side lose their crap because EVERYONE doesn't agree with them exactly. Here's my two cents. I like Reigns and I enjoy his moveset etc in the ring. Im enjoying the journey and I'm hoping he hammers 7 shades of sh*t out of HHH at Summerslam. Beyond that I'm not getting my expectations up about titles Wrestlemania etc. One step at a time like. This sums up exactly how I feel. His staredown with HHH on Raw gave me chills.

It had a "big fight" feel to me......which in itself is an achievement because we have seen Shield vs Evolution twice on PPV and Evolution were beaten twice. HHH will do his best to make RR look like a f*ckin monster and as long as Reigns wins(which logic dictates he surely will) this step of his journey will be well completed by WWE. I don't object to another match with HHH on PPV either.....maybe in a cage or a stip of some kind to put a [pin in the feud. Its what comes after HHH that's Reigns biggest challenge. This is where he will need WWEs full attention and protection during booking of September forward.

Which means they'd only have to give him something to do for Sept-Dec... There are plenty of potential feuds that would fill that. Isn't that about the time Big Dave comes back? -- Orton. Rollins. Wyatt. Kane. Take your pick. They carry him into the Rumble, Lesnar wins his Rumble Championship match against whoever -- Reigns comes out for a staredown, now THAT would be chill-inducing.

I have never seen any of Deans or Roins indy stuff..still, I found myself drawn to them over Reigns. Like others have stated, I think he will have a Batista type role. Taking over for Cena? I doubt it. Cena is the toral package, Roman is not.
