I was young once too so I can relate. I was surrounded by friends who watched wrestling so I didn't feel weird. However, I am a recent collector (besides the bone crusher figures I used to play with as a kid) - about 5 months in. I am 31 now, I am married (my wife doesn't care and supports it - tells me to go out and buy figures sometimes also watches wrestling ppvs with me. My figures are only for display and I don't feel weird by them at all. I have started making a ton of custom belts and clothing for the figures and it just makes me happy. Some of our friends like it and some don't. No one directly says anything to me really about them. It is definitely an eye catcher when you walk in the man cave and see over 120 figures displayed on shelves. Regardless, the most important person in my life accepts my hobby and that's all that matters to me so eff everyone else!

Oh man, no, all my friends were/are total dorks so there's no issues with friends. It's something where, if they make fun of you but are still cool and your friends, it's fine. The best of friends tear each other apart but are still cool with each other. If they're consistent turds and trying to be turds, screw them, they're not friends. They're trolls.

if you are embarrassed of your hobby, then its time to find a new hobby.

Interesting topic and some very good answers. I guess everyone will have a different opinion on the subject. Personally, only my family knows I collect figures. It's not that I hide it from anyone but it's just something that is kind of personal to me. If it came up I wouldn't lie about it. I would be completely open about it. I would not be embarrassed about it in the least. Also there some comments about women and their dislike for the figures. My wife is cool with it. It was kind of surprising when we first met but trust me guys there are a lot worse things that you can spend money on. My collection continues to grow and I have no intentions of ever stopping.

No. Some people like to spend their money on drinks they'll ingest in 2 minutes, others pay out the ass for car payments, etc. I choose to spend my extra money on figures. Anyone who judges is a simpleton.

I'm 32 and I just try to accept that it's not "normal" but it makes me happy. Most of my friends support it and my wife allows it so no biggie! Same here. I started because my youngest son got into wrestling and I got him a Bret Hart. I saw how awesome it was and got one for myself..... then of course I had to get a Shawn Michaels for Bret to put in a sharpshooter. Of course after that I had to get Triple H.... then I had to get a Rock to beat the piss from Triple H..... then I had to get an Andre when he came out..... then I had to get another Andre... then I had to update my Rock and Triple H..... then I.... well crap.... you get the point. I dont make it a point to hide them but I don't go out of my way to show them off either. They are sitting on a shelf in my room with my F13 and Halloween and Batman collection. However, the wrestling figures have taken over by a long shot.

It depends on the size of the collection and how it's displayed, because I've had reactions on both sides of the spectrum. I had a wall full of 200 some wrestlers jammed into a cabinet and shelves and got the WTF version of the People's Eyebrow from visitors. It just looked like an episode of Hoarders. Now, I have one ring and 20 some wrestlers on display (another 40+ that I rotate into drawer) and it looks cool to people. I can have fun changing up the display every now and then instead of it looking like a bunch of guys staring at me.

The display is key. I'm in my 40's and have a family to take care of, but I'm still collecting these figures. People appreciate passions. If you are passionate about it and show it off and explain why you like it, most people respond favorably. I have an office full of toys. If the room is clean and everything is in my display cases, I keep the door open and people enjoy looking at my collection. (Horror, Star Wars, and WWF) However if I have a ton of boxes and bags lying around, it looks like a hoarder and I try to keep the door closed.
Attitude is everything. If it's clear you feel good about yourself, people will be more comfortable around you. If you are comfortable with your collection, they will be too.

I wouldn't worry about it, I am 34, married and have a 15 month old daughter.
I have collected various things in my lifetime, action figures, starting with Starting Lineups (only the Quarterbacks) was my first collection. My Mom encouraged this and it was awesome when I would get surprised with a new QB I didn't have...Fast forward a bit and I have a small collection of early McFarlane NFL figures (which are worth nothing now, LOL) and all of the Star Wars Episode 1 Figures. These are all at my parents house.
Somehow I got interested in collecting WWE Mattel Elite Flashbacks a few years back, along with CM Punk Elite figures. I have the CM Punk's MOC and loose, the MOC are not displayed but are in Rubbermaid containers, and all the Flashbacks are also stored in a closet in Rubbermaid containers. I have 2 IKEA display cabinets that are relatively small in my basement Man Cave with the loose Punks and the Autographed MOC figures I have. I have started a loose NXT collection for the 2nd display. At times I go hunting for figures and just buy ones that I think I want if TRU or another store has a good deal, but most of the time those end up getting returned unless they are new Flashback Elite's that I don't have.
I guess my point is, my wife accepts my wrestling fandom, she came to WM30 with me in New Orlenas when she was pregnant with our daughter and she is going to WM32 with me in Dallas. She likes Total Divas, so that is one way I got her interested, but as far as other people, if they know me well enough they respect that I enjoy "FAKE WRESTLING" and most think it's cool I collect the old guys that they know from growing up. I don't go out of my way to tell people about my hobby, but if they ask about the stuff when they are over, I talk about it. I've learned that if someone is going to make fun of you for collecting the stuff, then they probably aren't worth the time of day.
Although I would say if you are dating or in a semi-new relationship, I wouldn't necessarily talk about the collection until they know you are a fan. I remember dating and how girls are sometimes.

I like that people think I'm weird because I collect toys. That way I don't have to waste time or energy pretending that I like them.

I'm 30. That's too old to give a s**t about what other people think. I'm not in high school anymore. I don't need to be popular. I could care less about people's opinions of me. That doesn't define who I am.

What's funny, in my case, is my vintage Hasbro's (especially the MOC's) people are like "Oh that's cool!" but if it's the modern/Mattel figs there's kind of a ".....oh..." response. Like vintage toys = cool, modern = not cool. Really weird lol. Same w/Star Wars or Robocop or whatever else i have. I have way more vintage, but still toss in the new toys and it's just not "cool" anymore.

I did until I stopped giving a f**K. Plus it helps to be with a girl who doesn't give a f**k and to have friends who collect the same stuff you do.

I think that has to do with this whole hipster movement thing that been going on where vintage equals cool and I guess it's just become a normal thing

Well, the vintage ones ARE cooler no doubt imo, but toys is toys. There have always been some form of hipster, we just used different terms. Also nostalgia is powerful. Hipster or not people like being reminded of their youth.

Everybody important in my life knows I collect WWE action figures. I think trying to hide it and then getting "caught" is a lot worse than just owning it as a part of your personality. I have no debt, a great job, a BA and an MA in my field, I don't do drugs, and I don't anything illegal except occasionally speed and coast through STOP signs. I have no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed.

People keep asking if i'm a collector when I check out. I'm 33!! What I can't be buying them for my son?? For the most part, people don't understand our hobbie. My wife is very supportive. She collects pyrex bowls, so we get each other.

I have never cared what people think about my hobby. I am more embarrassed watching the current product than collecting the figures.
