Has anyone here had an embarrassing experience about collecting figures? Did someone see your collection and embarrass you or did you just not care? I am a big WWE fan and collect figures, but I do not have the self confidence yet to openly display my figure collection and WWE fandom. I am an 18 year old college freshman (my figures are at home however). Anyone willing to share their experiences?

I'm 32 and I just try to accept that it's not "normal" but it makes me happy. Most of my friends support it and my wife allows it so no biggie!

Don't care who sees, most of my visitors/friends think its cool anyhow. Only my younger sister thinks it's weird, until I showed her dollar amounts after I sold off my Jakks, yet she attempts to play with them. Girlfriend of 8 years doesn't care, just that they take up space but she knows they're going to my two year old someday...

I've never really had cause to be embarrassed. I have a good class of friends that don't look down on a person for what their hobbies or collecting habits are. I acknowledge it has gotten out of hand this past year so I'm slowing down but the collection I have is just that, something I have collected. Could I have saved that money for something more important? Oh most definitely. But the same could be said for my CD collection or my vinyl collection or all the movies and games I own. Those are "more accepted" collections for a man my age but it still amounts to being a hobby any way you slice it. A person should never be embarrassed for collecting something. If you are embarrassed then you need to man up and surround yourself with better people.

Nope. I'm 31. I could not care less what anybody thinks of it. I like it and that's all that matters. Anybody who wants to force you to stop doing something that makes you happy is not the type of person you should be concerning yourself with.

When I was in high school I stopped all together. It definitely was embarrassing. Being a fan alone was embarrassing, so add on the fact that I still buy, and play with, the toys? That was a huge secret of mine up until recently. Hell a lot of people still don't know about my huge collection. And that's fine with me. The judgements are too unfair and harsh to not keep it quiet. Actually Recently , maybe a year and a half ago, I had some one I really like come over my house after she was being being really really flirtatious in texts. Well I left her in my room for a few minutes alone, (had my collection covered by sheets on my floor, pretty obvious that she went and looked under to see wtf was there) and then when I got back she was weird as and pretty much asked to go home after awkward silence. It sucked. And I can't help but think her seeing all my toys turned her off and made her leave. That's why I'm happy we have this place and I've met quite a few friends through here who I can talk with wrestling figures about. A lot of people just don't and will never understand man. They'll always see it as "what? You buy toys of men in their underwear?!"

Not at all. We rarely ever have people come over around here other than family, and the only people who've even seen my collection are my parents, who actually like the figures that I collect. So I can display what I have without being judged for it, at least.

The less you care about what other people think, the less other people care about what you do.

Once you stop caring what everyone thinks of you or your inrests, life gets so much easier. Im 30, loved pro wrestling my whole life, people know it, i dont hide it, after the first few sarcastic remarks no one cares.

I'm 26, and I live a very social and normal life, I cant remember a single time I've been single since I was in 10th grade. but I've had my collection since I was 10 and not even my current girlfriend knows I collect or even play with them every once in a while. I honestly prefer keeping it that way

Do what makes you happy, screw what others think had 3 girlfriends say they accepted then when they cheated used it as an excuse, like going on anime sites and creating sex fantasy fan fiction with talking cats or dressing like anime girls but being 200lbs overweight is normal, or playing mindcraft for 6 days straight is ? Don't let others tell you how you should act, do wrestler figure collections kill people, no does it kill you no, can it make you broke yes but last I checked so does drugs and alcohol and last I read that stuff can kill you or others. Be proud of your collection enjoy your hobby.

A girl that works in my local Smyths knows I collect them and she giggles every time she sees me buying a figure. It's so embarrasing.

There needs to be an EMO thread for things like this. I'm being 100% serious. Put all of the retirement from collecting, embarrassment about collecting & the other nonsense in there.

Nope, never.
When I was a teenager, the Attitude Era was happening so wrestling was super popular. When my classmates or friends saw or heard that I had wrestling figures, they thought it was cool.
But now that wrestling is not so popular, I can see how it would be considered 'embarrassing' to collect wrestling figures if you are in your teens or early 20s. The product isn't look upon as highly as it was in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Totally. Wrestling is embarrassing enough to like most of the time since it's seen as white trash dork fodder. I'm married with a kid too. Then I sit back and say "screw it" and let it all go. If people say anything I act snobby and tell them it's performance art and they just don't get it.
Honestly yeah, whatever, it can be embarrassing. But also everyone had something dumb or weird they're into. Just gotta realize that and move past it
