It would make it significantly harder. Logic tells you that. A criminal or insane person wouldn't care how hard it was. Drugs are supposed to be hard to get, but look at how many people sell them. All it would do is spawn a huge underground arms trade. Do peoole outside of military/police really need an assault rifle? Of course not. There is a huge glamorisation and glorification of gun culture. And perhaps with stricter gun laws said gunman may have only been able to stab a few people instead of what happened.

I don't own any guns and have no interest too. All I'm saying is that one law being passed isn't going to stop them. If you build a barrier, people will climb over it if they absolutely want to.

"Oh chicago has strict gun laws" "What about Paris"
Its a fact that the gun problem in chicago, is being fueled by LEGALLY bought guns elsewhere.
And paris is a total different country and was a planned out isis attack.
It is known that majority of these shooters all get their guns legally or in an easy way.
Dont act like you know they would use something else, because you dont.
But apparently the logic of "Killers are killers" Is better than taking a precaution that might work.
People are getting abortions "Ban them" People are getting birth control "Make it harder to get" Gays are getting married "Ban it" Mass shootings are become much more common "Killers are killers and it would of happened either way"
A ban on assault rifles is the smart way to go. When the amendments were written they had muzzleloader..so dont even mention its your birth right to have one.
Take a step back and think to yourself, if this hobby is worth sacraficing in order to possibly save a few lives.
Its a tragedy what happened and it should never happen.
You cant just not do anything about it

I'm sure they will I do not doubt that. I didn't specify you in the glamorising and glorifying of guns just stating that there is. More preventative measures can be taken. I said in a previous post, it is never news to hear that there has been a mass shooting in America.

If you build a barrier, people will climb over it if they absolutely want to. Which is why you have to build it higher and higher and make sure Mexico pays for it.

Pro tip: Don't have the gun discussion with Americans, guns are as essential to their life as air. Come on, man... Not every American is a gun nut. While I believe in protecting one's self, I don't think that it's fair to essentially "play God" with people's lives. What happened in Orlando could've easily happened some place else. Let's be friends. Don't generalize.

Pro tip: apparently non-US citizens understand America and its problems more than Americans. Not quite. A lot of the stuff being said here is purely observational. In my case, I'm British, so I know that my argument isn't going to be as backed up as arguments from other Americans. One thing we can all agree on is that what happened was wrong, and I personally believe that everybody - US citizen or not - should be allowed a say in what they think about America's gun control and whatnot.

I don't see why anyone needs an automatic weapon. But for gun folks, they think that would lead to taking ALL guns from them, and then it would lead to a totalitarian liberal government regime which would destroy America. I want to know what we can do to stop tragedies like this from happening. The people who are pro-gun just seem to shrug their shoulders and say there's nothing we can do. That's pathetic. What can we do to stop these acts of violence?

I'm Bisexual whereas this doesn't like offend me that it happened to a gay club but it does sadden me that some people were killed over sexuality!... Like in my opinion since when does somebodies gender, race, sexuality, age, hair colour, eye colour, accent, language or ethnicity have effect on anyone else is beyond me. Unless somebody has done something directly against you then what's the problem? Rest in peace to everybody that was killed in this shooting and I hope everyone that suffered a loss does well and my condolences are with them. That's 50 innocent humans killed in a nightclub for nothing... It's sad.

What can we do to stop these acts of violence? I'm not some big pro gun guy running around shrugging my shoulders about it. There are things that can be done. And automatic weapons are illegal in the US. They still get obtained illegally, such as drugs, stolen property, human trafficking, etc. We can't stop people from killing one another, but we can implement stricter steps for purchasing guns(which I am for.) I honestly feel like if you want a to buy a gun, then you should have to complete an extensive background check, a drug test, and a psych evaluation. If you don't pass any of those three, then you should be denied the right to purchase a gun. No felons are allowed to legally own a gun, so there's that. I feel like since most people have to take a drug test to go to work, then you should have to take one to own a gun. I don't think a coke head should be allowed to run around buying guns. Drugs can alter the mind, which leads into the evaluation. The evaluation should be led by the government, and anyone deemed mentally incapable of understanding gun safety and laws shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. Unless the world halts gun production all together, then we will never get rid of guns, which we shouldn't. Guns are necessary to a lot of people's lives, such as hunt and sport and well as arming yourself to defend your family against this cruel world that we live in. Criminals break laws daily, and if a criminal wants to get a gun and go on a shooting spree, unfortunately there isn't much anyone can do to stop that. If they can't get their hands on a gun, then they'll kill by whatever means that they can. Protection, especially in this day and time, is a much needed necessity. We all have rights and opinions but I don't think that a vocal minority of the world's population should be able to affect America's gun laws. As I've said, it's the people that are killing the people. Guns aren't just spontaneously firing and killing people. Guns don't make the choice to take a life. The people who are holding the gun make that call. I look at it this way, it's something for people to blame all this on. They blame it on guns. Like when the white guy killed those people at a black church, it wasn't so much about the guns as it was about the Confederate flag and anything with the flag on it. It was something for people to place blame on and cause a big stink about it. People just look for a scape goat. Plain and simple. No one wants to place blame on an actual human being anymore because everyone has feelings that aren't supposed to be hurt. Bottom line, if someone wants to take the life of another, then they'll do just that. Having or not having a gun isn't going to change that. The guns aren't near the issue that they're made out to be. People are just so quick to place blame on an item, and think it'll solve the whole situation. It won't.

What can we do to stop these acts of violence? Probably deal with the core issue, which is not guns.. More like mental health. You seem to be very up in arms about people not wanting to give up guns.. Like that is indeed the answer to these problems. Show me a man that wants to kill, and I'll show you a man that will do it by any means necessary.. Gun control will not prevent a killer from killing.. The reason pro gun people don't want regulation on guns is because it will set a precedent on the government continuing to try and push their limits.. If they can control that, what else can they control?

I disagree with the first half of this. All you're doing with that is making it even harder for law abiding people to excersize their God given rights. I understand the fear there. What if your doctor has an agenda? Too many roadblocks, too many levels of bureaucracy to run effectively I'd think. But that's just my opinion and beliefs on that front. I know in my state it's already difficult to legally obtain firearms. It's also not cheap. There's a 10 day waiting period and they perform a background check. I don't know how this shooter passed a background check but as it stands now we cannot condem people before they've done anything wrong. How is that responsibile or right? But you're spot on the rest of the way.

It is near impossible to get a gun in Canada with our laws. Gun related crimes aren't as major as they are in the US. That said, I'm not so ignorant as to say that these strict laws solve a problem. Less people are dying? That doesn't mean no people are dying and I find it ing disgusting to think that people would ever call that a victory. I don't see a number of people dead, I just see that someone's brother or mother or significant other was gunned down. I do think something more should be done in the US and hell, worldwide if ever possible to bring down gun related violence and this recent Orlando shooting lends more support to that. What that is though, I just don't know, not without going to some kind of lengthy extreme.

Take a step back and think to yourself, if this hobby is worth sacraficing in order to possibly save a few lives. Its a tragedy what happened and it should never happen. You cant just not do anything about it Then the First Amendment doesn't apply to the Internet. So all the gun problems in Chicago are because of everywhere else? That is what you're inferring correct? If these guns legally purchased are becoming problems in Chicago, then why aren't they problems where they're legally being purchased? Paris is a different country, which was victim to 2 attacks in the last year or so.. well 3 as of yesterday.. What are Paris' gun laws? Pretty sure that they can't own firearms. Do you realize how asinine it sounds when you point out that another country having a problem is a "planned out attack.. nothing could be done" but when it happens in a place where guns are legal like the US the tune changes to "ban all the guns!1!" Banning "assault rifles" as you say it (that's a political term, not an actual term) will accomplish nothing. We proved that in '94 like I said earlier in the thread. Gun violence decreased after the ban was lifted, not during. This "hobby" as you call it, is not worth sacrificing at all, because it's a fundamental right. That's like saying you can no longer be gay or Mexican or black or Jewish so that we can save some lives. This country was founded on rights that are guaranteed. Yes, this is a tragedy and should never happen, but taking it out on an inanimate object is not going to do a damn thing. That's like crushing your car because it got a flat tire.
