how does everyone feel about opening MOC hasbros? Is it frowned upon because they are old and not many exist?

I personally don't like shelf filler. MOC sitting there just to be looked at...I don't get it
Yes these are old Yes there might not be many MOC But these are toys
These are to be ripped open, packaging thrown to one side, the card on the back to be cut out later after the excitement of having the figure died down. You open it and you smash your new purchase against your old one, new favourite against old favourite bashing about in the blue ring
It's an opinion, I know some people like looking st their collections and more power to them, but for me my enjoyment is sitting on the floor, an old in your house ppv on the network on the background while my kids and I bash these figures to heaven before we decide it's time for a submission or a 1,2,3 ding ding ding

You'll regret opening carded figures.
Buy your figures loose instead of MOC.

You'll regret opening carded figures. Buy your figures loose instead of MOC. Some might, but I never have. Some figures are expensive loose so I thought may as well pay a few quid more for MOC and opened em up. Depends on opinions - again for me they're toys. Sometimes in the hobby of collecting I think people forget that. There is a trend now for making 'adult collectable' figures like the Matty collectables ones. Hasbro WWF figures are not exclusive collectables, they're toys

Buying figures that are already loose is considerably less than buying an MOC figure, especially if you are buying them to play with. There are not an unlimited amount of MOC versions available. Leave them for the collectors and future collectors. Unlike other lines, other than the ones with decals, it takes an act of God to damage a Hasbro, so why not buy ones already loose?

Case in point, 1,2,3 kid sells for £60-£70 loose on eBay. I got carded for £85. An extra £15 to know it is mint and also give one of my lads the joy of opening it and the excitement he had. Again these are toys - "Leave it for the collectors" or leave it for the kids, who's youthful unbridled passion and excitement is more than that of someone who leaves it to gather dust on a shelf Again, these are toys. I'm passionate about hasbros, but sometimes people forget they're toys not precious artifacts dug up in the desert which should be displayed at a museum I've had people blow up st me for opening a carded figure. What I find interesting is those who do open carded figures give their opinion but don't seem to say others are 'wrong' for leaving them in cards. Whereas card collectors say those who open them are wrong - ultimately there is no right or wrong it's just an opinion and a viewpoint

Whereas card collectors say those who open them are wrong - ultimately there is no right or wrong it's just an opinion and a viewpoint There are exceptions to everything. You can buy 3/4 of the set for $10 - $15 each and you likely won't get them for $25 - $30 MOC. Yes, they are toys, but toys I am proud to own and I like them MOC. If I wanted to play with them, I would buy them loose so that I could bash them together. Or better yet 1 each way. If I had the room, I would display every MOC and loose one that I have, but I would need an entirely new and separate house. Granted some things I own are loose due to cost, Hasbro's being on of those lines. My LJN's are loose for the same reason, but I am still of the opinion that they need to be MOC from a collector's standpoint. I have also heard plenty of people preach about the need to free their toys from their plastic prisons.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if it's your property then it's up to you what you do with them ... I will say though, that I don't believe anyone forgets they are toys! I'm not a fan opening MOC figures from 30 years ago - it kind of feels like shooting an endangered species. I dislike customs for exactly the same reason, but as long as no one opens mine then I can't complain. I did feel a tiny bit light headed hearing about 123 Kid being opened

Collecting toys back in the 80s and 90s was much different than it is today. It was a kid dominated thing and very few adults collected toys. Toys are for kids. We know that. So when you bought a toy the kid ripped it open. They played with it as it was intended to be. That's why I feel most carded figures from that era are much more rare, they were used as intended. Now you seem to have more adult collectors than kid collectors especially with WWE toys. They all keep them MOC and add to the fact that Mattel MASS produces these things now the value beyond retail is almost null. Nobody is buying for "investment" purposes anymore. I started out keeping Mattels MOC but then saw there was no value and enjoy them more loose so if I get the figure at a cheap price (thanks Amazon price match) I have no problem ripping them open as intended.
I still have my bucket of loose Hasbros some 25-30 years later. They are loose, beat up, some have Sharpie on the faces from "face paint". But looking back I would never have kept those MOC as a kid. The years and years of enjoyment I got out of those figures was a staple of my childhood memories. I have a video from my fourth birthday party of ripping open AWA Remcos. But I smile when I see that video because I had so much fun with my Road Warriors figures.
Back to this debate, I agree with the statement as to why are you ripping them open now after you've spent all that money? If you want a loose collection, then buy loose figures. I'd sell those MOC if they're taking up space and they're not your cup of tea anymore and use that money to buy loose figures, which you'll probably end up with more of since they're cheaper. The Hasbros have and will continue to hold value over something like the Mattels.

I was debating whether or not to open my Mattels. I have a bunch MOC and a bunch loose, but decided to open them all and display on shelves. I do not regret the decision and the Mattel boxes were much easier to display than Hasbros. With that said, Hasbros are obviously older and carry a higher value if that matters to you. I have about 95% of the entire Hasbro collection but loose.

If you're collecting for love - It's your money spent - do what makes you happy and who cares what anyone else says! If you're collecting for re-sell keep them moc!

No chance am I ever opening my MOC figures. I get it if the cards beat to hell. If you want loose mint though why not buy loose mint? I guess that can be tough.
I also love the packaging of Hasbro's. Brings back memories. I open a lot of my toys, nearly all modern. My vintage stuff if I want loose I buy loose. Some cards are great though and I want the whole package, I love the design. It's not just the toy it's the whole package. It's like the card is a display for the toy.
Anyway, I feel like if you like loose just buy loose or beat cards with mint figures. I have a 123 Kid the card was beat and the bubble popped off during shipping but the price was nice. I display it with the card still.
What I don't get is grading. If you're reselling I get it but for your own collection? My eyes work, I don't need some other nerd telling me their opinion and I don't need to prove anything. I know, minus my Kid, my card Hasbro collection is top notch. I don't need an arbitrary number to prove that. It's weird to me.

Totally agree with grading Plus it don't make sense to me half the time. If you have a MOC and the bubble is perfect etc how can the figure be 80% Shouldn't the figure be 100% unless someone left it for years facing the sun which is unlikely if theyve kept the card mint

As a kid I bought them, ripped open the package and smashed the hell out of them. As an adult collector I avoided moc like the plague. Truth is, I don't know how I would feel so aversion was the best tactic. I much prefer looking at a full displayed loose collection. That's my preference. I'll happily leave moc on auction sites for those who collect them.

I'm like 90% loose but those are all bought loose. Only have limited space and money for MOC.

I'd say it's your money, do with it what you want. However knowing they are some MOC collectors out there I'd say sell up if you want them loose (as a lose collector myself I have a few MOC which I'm saving for when I start that collection. If you want loose buy loose, leave what's left of the MOC for those seeking them out. But again...my opinion, and opinions are like arseholes we all have one and you should never push it into other peoples faces.

Sometimes the loose figures sell for nearly the same price as a MOC. 123 kid is a hard figure to come by. I have him carded, but my collection is all loose. I'll probably end up opening him. The loose figure prices for him have skyrocketed. I bought the carded figure at a cheaper price than what the loose ones have been selling for .

As a kid I say go for it, open them up and play with them. I did it as an 8-12 year old when Hasbro's were released and didn't regret it at all playing with them, but as you get older and buy them to collect and not play with, I say keep them in the packaging. I now look back and regret ever opening mine as a kid, but back then its what you did, you are a child and want to play with them, its natural.
