He's said it in multiple interviews (pretty sure also on the Stone Cold Podcast and Talk Is Jericho) that he's enjoying life at home and just doing his solo projects.
While I respect the man for not tarnishing his career, that's not what this is about... or so one would assume.

*Wahhhh* That you all. Babies. Shane is a match that can only happen in WWE. He is also 47, so Big 4 matches is probably all we'll get from him. Sounds like everyone hates Shane, when a year ago they were marking out likekids. I hate your fickleness. AJ lost to Jericho last year. At least he'll win this time.... God don't remind me of that bunghole who spammed that stupid gif. Thank God he left.

Shawn is taking this retirement a little too seriously. Is he trying to prove a point or something? Retirement doesn't exist in wrestling anyway. Also he hasn't wrestled in 7 years so could he still go? could arguably the greatest pro wrestler of all time still go after years of absence? I think when you're that good and have done it as long as he did it becomes muscle memory and just second nature honestly. I doubt he will ever come back though which sucks. Would be an insane matchup.

Nobody seems to hate Shane though. I've seen most people on this forum enjoying his run as general manager. The issue is that AJ Styles is arguably one of the most popular talents on this forum and people want something better than Shane / Styles at Wrestlemania. Styles has basically been carrying Smackdown on his back since being moved over there and has been putting on some of the best in-ring performances each month. Most people are wanting something better for him because he's deserving of such. This is coming from someone who considers AJ Styles to be his favorite wrestler (second favorite of all time to Austin) and someone who loves the s*** out of Shane. It's the same with John Cena, too. Miz / Cena feuding is one of the my favorite things in the company right now but I'd still have much rather seen Cena / Taker at Wrestlemania instead of Miz / Cena with their better halves in a mixed tag team match. That feud is awesome (pardon the pun) but again it's "below" Cena and I'd argue "below" Miz, too. It's not about "hating" someone. It's about wanting more for the biggest name(s) in the company on the biggest stage.

If it wasn't going to be Cena vs. Taker,it should of been AJ vs. Taker. AJ would of made him look like a million bucks.

A retirement should be retirement. Good match or not, some dream matches must stay as dreams. Also I find it funny that people have no problem with Styles vs Michaels, but crap on Shane.lol wut? Shane McMahon isn't a wrestler.. Shawn Michaels is Shawn freaking Michaels.

I just think that Shane at Mania is a big profile match. Youre not gonna get that in NJPW or TNA. Ill say the booking hasnt been the best for it. They made it like AJ is the bad guy when he never got his straight up rematch. Shane isnt evil Mr. McMahon, but its about as close are youre going to get to a Vince fight in 2017. Steph is the evil one, but you need to be a female competitor to get a match with her, which I also think is high profile. I never have a problem with a McMahon match at a good PPV. They almost always deliver. He could fight Orton, Bray, Dolph, Cena, or Miz and those would be at least on the main event level. Anyone else I would say is below him for a Mania match on the roster. Dolph, as stated by others, is damaged. I still love the guy but they dont know what to do with him. If Bray was more established and was done with the Orton fued then Id be fine with either of them, but he doesnt fit in as it stands. Bray also NEEDS to go over at Mania eventually. Four losses in a row isnt a good look. The defeated streak.... If Cena and Nikki are stepping away for awhile then I really like this mixed tag. Maryse hasnt really wrestled since shes been back, so thats cool. Im excited for everything except the Universal Title match, and the Undertaker/Roman match, but the outcomes will be interesting regardless.

HBK hasn't wrestled since 2010.....and I bet he still would have stole the show. Especially if he was working with AJ. 100% agreed. I think Shawn is probably approached every year with an idea for him to work WM. I wont say never. But I dont think it would take a good bit of something to get Shawn back in the ring. I dont mean money. I mean something that would really peak his interest. And of course as the years go on, it will be harder and harder. Shawn is a guy who takes a lot of pride in his in ring work. If he cant be HBK, he wont want to do it.

If he cant be HBK, he wont want to do it. He also stated on Sam Roberts that he cant just come back for one match because he gets too entrenched in it. He would need to start training months ahead, and would get so into that it would be hard to just up and leave again after all the effort that goes into a big match. Its fun to see him come out and superkick people still though and thats probably a lot easier than building a fued and working a whole match. Someone gets sweet chin music, he gets paid, Im happy.

No disrespect to the legends, but I think Foley, Funk, and (to a lesser extent) Flair have tarnished the word retirement. So while I would have loved to see it, I'm okay that we won't. It's like Jordan and LeBron, two greats who never got to play against each other. Add it to the many "what ifs" in wrestling.
BTW: Nice try bangarang/cam89.

Nothing against Shane, but that's a crappy backup plan.

But his history of bad punctuation, awful spelling, and complaining about the same damn things gave him away. Instead of learning from his mistakes, he keeps making them over, and over, and over.

Idk what qualifies you to be a professional wrestler, but Shane goes out there and gives it his all. He does high spots, and bumps like a madman. Is he a technician? No. Are they going to put on a technical masterpiece, a clinic if you will? Probably not. What they sure as hell will do though is sports entertain. I have faith in AJ to make it a good match and to go on to many more Wrestlemanias where he can face Nakamura or Roode or whoever people want him to face that he already fought somewhere else.

The guys has a stroke and then returns years later to have numerous matches, win the US title and main event Summerslam.

People are declaring it as a fact that AJ vs Shane is going to be bad. One of my favourite matches is Shane vs Angle so who is to say that AJ vs Shane may not steal the show?
Would you prefer AJ to be thrown into the battle royal?

Would you prefer AJ to be thrown into the battle royal? Not that I'm saying I know Styles/Shane will be bad, but Styles deserves an opponent he can have a wrestling match with at WrestleMania. Shane McMahon is not that person. Angle/Shane was also 16 years ago. I don't believe Shane is anywhere as agile as he once was. Which was shown last year against The Undertaker.

Would you prefer AJ to be thrown into the battle royal? This. Yeah Shane is kinda worse than he used to be. Those awful punches are the main culprit there.... But I still fully expect it to be a very good to great match. AJ is the best in the world hands down. I'm pretty sure he could carry a wrestling buddy to a five star classic at this point.... It will come close to Angle/Shane and may even top that.
