I drove by it for the first time since it closed and didn't even want to look at it. :/ Such a bummer. That is the worst part, seeing the empty stores with the signs still up. I get especially sad going out of town and seeing one I’ve never been to and will never get the chance to. It really does suck but none of us on here could have saved them even if we were spending a $1000 each there weekly. The 2 locations I’d regularly go to we’re the same 2 I went to as a kid 30 years ago too, so major bummer for sure. I just hope some kind of new toy store can rise from the ashes.

I certainly miss TRU. The worst thing is that the ones near me are still just sitting there taunting me with all the signage still up like the store still exists.

I still have my local TRU, but the selection and prices are so bad it wouldn't really matter if it closed.

To address people who are blaming places like Ringside for the fall of TRU, please do your research, it’s out there. There’s nobody to blame for their demise other than TRU themselves.
I will admit, I miss that place. The collector inside me is kinda missing that extra something. Yeah other retailers will always be around, but I have such good memories with TRU as a kid and I will never forget the good times I had going with my Dad to pick up the first RSR that Jakks Pacific put out or collecting the Classic Superstars line that I loved, and Toybiz Marvel Legends. I always made a weekly run there til the day it shut down. As a 23 years old It’s sad lol, mostly because it’s another thing from my childhood that I loved that’s now gone.

These TRU topics always confuse me, are you peeps in an alternate universe where TRU didn't mark up their prices like 25% for no reason? All the ones around here were butt, pure butts. Good riddance.

Toy Galaxy on YouTube had a fantastic video detailing the rise and fall of Toys R Us for anyone interested in what happened.

Good riddance? I wish we could say the same about trolls like this who come in and try to spoil a perfectly good thread

The letters are still on the outside of the building at the one that was closest to me.
Somehow, I will get that "R". Somehow.

The thing is, we are members of a forum owned by one of the reasons it closed, not specifically, but online retail is the reason stores close

All my Targets and Walmarts are jammed pack full of stuff. It's just all old stuff that's accumulated over months and months.

I enjoy "the hunt" but if I had to choose over ordering exactly what I want from the comfort of my home and receiving it within 2-days or driving over half an hour (with no traffic) to the closest TRU and hope they have something new or something I want, I'd choose Amazon 10 out of 10 times. I completely understand the whole nostalgia factor as I've been going to TRU for 25+ years, but just because its what we know or what we are used to doesn't make it better. I'd agree with you 100% if it wasn't for piss-poor QC on many Hasbro/Mattel lines. Nothing beats having multiples to choose from in hand, especially for Elites and Marvel Legends/Black series. And I'm not even a MOC collector. I can't imagine how bad they get it from places like Amazon and the bay of evil. Still, wasting time and gas going to barely stocked Walmarts/Targets gets REALLY old, really fast. You're talking to a guy that will spend hours looking through listings to find that one fig with decent paint apps. Tugboat was a MAJOR pain.

Mine is a Halloween store now... my area basically got rid of half my retail hunting stores. Closed tru AND Kmart 2 months apart. Sad. Only left with Walmart and target which they aren’t too great in restocking

The signs are still up at my TRU. It's sad to see it vacant. I'd kill to have the 80s era Geoffrey entrance sign on the building. I tried to buy a sign on the very last day. They weren't allowed to sell any of the trademarks. All I got on the last day was some of the shopping bags. I wanted to buy a Shopping cart but there was no way I could have hauled it home in my station wagon
