I dont get the bulk of these comments. How is it everyone elses fault that you cant get the figure you want for retail cost? Try harder, make more money, or quit the hobby. Those are the options. Huge companies could care less if you were able to find a figure in their store. You know why? Because someone else found it before you. They still sold it made their money and kept it moving. If I want a figure I cant find in store I'll go to Ebay. If you cant afford that then as someone else said quit bitching and take some time to review your priorities. If you cant spend $30 for a figure that at retail costs $20 then maybe you shouldn't be buying the $20 figure either. I somewhat agree but I have a good job and don’t mind paying extra for something I want. With that said I will use Harley race as an example. No currently released figure that isn’t marketed as limited edition or 1/ ? Should cost hundreds of dollars on the secondary market and never be able to be found at retail. I visit retail a lot in a heavily populated metropolitan area and I didn’t even come close to finding it. That’s silly and somewhat unforgivable considering like I said it’s a “mass retail” item. I don’t blame eBay. I have to blame the people who make these bad decisions and ruin it for everyone.

Exactly. Ringside has gotten way too expensive too. They are selling Elites for $28 now. plus their shipping that is way too slow to be charging as much as they do No kidding there. Everyone else has evolved to $4 flat rate shipping. spamS, Dorkside, etc. Why can't they?

The fact that you see collectors just giving up and selling there massive collections almost every month in the classifieds should be a sign to everyone here that still collects and mattel.
Yes it's becoming too hard and mattel is doing little to nothing to improve the situation. They are in fact making it worse with these damn "chase" figures.

Personally I enjoy the challenge in collecting. I don't expect to always find what I'm looking for but if I really want it there's always a way to obtain it. As much as this is my #1 hobby I really don't let it stress me out.

I completely agree with your scalper comment. The problem lies with the idiots would pay these exorbitant prices they are asking and not with the scalpers themselves. It doesn't matter what they charge, the problem is that there are people out there willing to be these crazy prices which is why they continue to exist. If no one pays $50 or $100 for a $20 mass produced figure then the scalper will be forced to lower their price until they get to a price that someone is willing to pay or they will remove the listing and try again later. So what are people who REALLY want a figure and can't find it at retail meant to do then? What are Canadian/European/Australian collectors meant to do - when the figure (or series) isn't even released in their country - so literally have NO chance of ever finding it? Sometimes the ONLY option is to pay secondary/eBay prices - or not have the figure at all... and if it's a figure you really really want - and you can afford the secondary market price, then I don't see the problem... eg. King Harley was not even released in the UK, so my only option was to pay the secondary market price - or not have him in my collection. I really wanted the figure - and I could afford it - so I paid the secondary market price. Heck, I'd LOVE to have paid retail price for him or walked into a toy store here and bought one, but - newsflash - you don't always get what you want in life. I'm actually pleased he was on eBay though, so at least I had a chance of getting him. And if it turns out that in the coming months, hundreds suddenly start showing up at retail, then so be it... you win some, you lose some. But there is also the very real chance that no more will show up and I bought him before the price increases even further... it's already gone from $50 to $90 to $125 - and shows no sign of leveling off. If all this makes me an "idiot", then whatever... I'm an idiot that's happy to have Harley in my collection. I somewhat agree but I have a good job and don’t mind paying extra for something I want. With that said I will use Harley race as an example. No currently released figure that isn’t marketed as limited edition or 1/ ? Should cost hundreds of dollars on the secondary market and never be able to be found at retail. I don’t blame eBay. I have to blame the people who make these bad decisions and ruin it for everyone.Bingo... the people paying crazy prices on eBay is due to supply and demand - if Mattel and Walmart supplied a decent amount of figures in the first place, it wouldn't happen. Just look at Harley: it will probably be his only Mattel figure and was released, 1 per-case, in SOME Walmarts... of course, he's going to be sought-after, as a lot of people want him and simply can't find/get him at retail. So again, if the only option is to pay the secondary market price or miss-out completely, then quite a few collectors (especially hardcore Flashback/Legends ones) will pay the secondary market price.

I’ve got no passion for this anymore. Even when I see figures I really like like Sanity and Aleister Black and barbed wire tights Jericho I can’t justify buying them now.
Y’all can say that running around hunting figures is fun all you want but you know that it’s not fun when you can’t find anything and you come home empty handed. And it’s almost always been impossible to find stuff ever since Mattel took over. And if we didn’t have Ringside and Amazon a bunch more of you would be complaining too.

It’s just too difficult to find the good figures (or any figures) at retail anymore. Internet prices on the desirable figures are way too high. Very frustrating.

For me its the True FX that is making it harder. Its so easy to get an offset print that ordering a figure you want is a gamble. My local target barely gets anything in and to go anyplace else is a bit of a drive.

It's definitely becoming too hard for me.
I think my most recent purchases from RSC are my last batch of MOC figures for the next 18 months.
I'll still try and grab some good loose deals on eBay.

Finding WWE stuff at retail is a f'n drain and a massive waste of time, but overall, I find it hard to get really excited about new Elites. Even though I am cherry picking my favorites, it feels like I'm doing so more out of habit.
The outstanding stuff from NECA, Marvel Legends & the Black Series also make my WWE collecting less of a priority. I'm happy to throw my money at their products. WWE's offerings made me stingy as hell and rethink the value of $20.

I’m thinking about selling off my collection, it just isn’t as fun to me as it once was.
Fighting scalpers to get the few figures every now and then that I actually want and the lack of Flashbacks is just killing it for me.
I’ve got a 4 month old now and if I sold my collection he’d have a huge toy room ... so, I’ve almost made up my mind.
I really don’t want to, because I know that if I do saltsrt to sell them off, then that’s it ... I’ll never collect again ... it’s a tough decision.
Mattel has shown through cheaping out on paint, deco, wrong parts choices, distribution, repaints, ect that they only want to make a quick buck (I GET that) but when you have adult collectors seeing decline in both quality and quanity, it becomes a hard sell over time.
I’m still debating on selling the collection off, but if we don’t get some more Flashbacks, then I’m def done.

This has been very interesting to read.
I was a hardcore collector starting with Hasbros, Bend Ems and then onto Jakks. It was the Jakks figures that I went above and beyond to track down. I for many years enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, dealing with other members on here from the UK and internationally. It was something I had a lot of fun with and for many years was a real passion of mine.
Then I changed. I started to get really nit-picky over the dumbest little things. I would get all bent out of shape if they gave Shawn Michaels the wrong colored shoes or something like that. It got to the point where I was sucking all of the fun out of collecting so I walked away. I was also having a much harder time tracking down figures during this period as well so I think that also attributed to my salty feelings towards collecting.
It is great to see so many of your passionate about collecting wrestling figures, but if it is starting to get to the point where it is no fun, stressful or you find yourself getting mad over the littlest of things, walk away, take a break and maybe try to find a new hobby. I know first hand this is easier said than done, especially when you have spent so much money. However, it can give you a different perspective on it and maybe you can fall in love with collecting once again.

Since my kids stopped caring about these figures nearly five years go, I’ve really only collected Flashbacks. If they aren’t making/mass producing more because guys like you and I aren’t their target audience, then my collecting days are already over. I’d like Flashbacks but they can’t deliver. Okay. We part ways.

However, it can give you a different perspective on it and maybe you can fall in love with collecting once again. I think you just said it perfectly. If your hobby doesn't bring you joy, it's time to find a new hobby. Collect what you enjoy and what you can afford. I've seen people have marriages fall apart, end up deep in debt, etc because they went down the rabbit hole with various collectibles. Sometimes just boxing things up and stepping away for 6 months can make a world of difference. If collecting is giving people the kind of stress and anxiety that I'm reading on this thread, then maybe it's time to take stock and think if that time and energy might be better placed elsewhere. Heck, a big part of why I started collecting wrestling figures was BECAUSE I had become burnt out with another hobby and was looking for something I could casually enjoy without getting stressed over decisions made by the manufacturer, chasing product, etc. I've made a point to make sure that I'm collecting in a way that brings me happiness and is relaxing.
